SNN: Sarasota Square Mall has no food court, mostly empty. What's in its future?

It’s actually sad and unnerving that they didn’t consider the mixed use housing there instead of making downtown now look like Manhattan 2.0. Whatever they do now I hope it isn’t housing, unless it’s mixed use somehow. They need to have more innovative plans to utilize the huge concrete spaces already existing. The city is now officially overdeveloped and infrastructure doesn’t match with the amount of people they are calling in here. They are allowing Sarasota’s charm to be lost to developers looking for big bucks without honoring the environmental sacrednesses and beauty that this area held. Now Seminole Tribe will add a casino to replace the Van Wezel on their reclaimed land according to the latest news. Maybe Van Wezel should move to one of the two almost vacant malls! Just as the Bay Park was added, 10 new high rises were also added. 10 ft and above! No skyline water sunset view anymore unless you cross the bridge to see it! I love a city with great attractions like anyone else but they are missing the mark by only adding overpriced condos and apartments in my opinion. So sad what this place is becoming! And as a note UTC mall store don’t see as much traffic as the outer perimeter stores hence the nightmare traffic.
