One guy made this game? That can't be right can it? If it is though then why the hell haven't Nintendo picked him up yet? Who cares if he's not Japanese, this guy is genuinely a genius, his 'art' is game making and Iconoclasts is as impressive a feat as most any novel, sculpture or painting being made today by anyone in the world. I've never played a Metroid-vania style game before but I'm gonna play this, if only to admire what one person can accomplish when their extraordinary passion, skill, education and dedication is manifested into the one project. Also Snoman your reviews are brilliant and you cover games that other's don't, one gamer channel said that KZbin is just a vast Echo-chamber where everybody reviews the same games over and over saying the same things over and over again, but you have avoided that, you go for more obscure interesting games than merely the traditional major releases. It's appreciated.

Marathoned the game in a few days. While it won't be everyone's cup of tea, not a day has gone by where I don't think about the ending or its implications. Robin's a great silent protag, and the last couple hours of the game had me shaking, particularly THAT moment.

Just finished my first playthrough of the game. It was fan-freaking-tastic. Good story, likeable characters, mechanics simple but utilized very effectively and in some cases have you as you say "thinking outside the box" when it comes to solving some of the puzzles. Great soundtrack and boss battles are generally challenging. Definately no bosses felt cheap or just downright easy. For something that was done by 1 person this is bloody impressive.

One thing I love to do is look at old WayForward games and try to guess what art Konjak (who used to be a sprite artist at WF) did. For example, I can BET any money that the first boss of Risky's Revenge (the mecha ship) was drawn by Konjak. Also if you like his games, I recommend trying Legend of Princess, it's a great Zelda fan-platformer.
@freshlymemed56806 жыл бұрын
The game was great, a good metroidvania (more linear though) but the story was so deep and how things chain together. The clash of ideals and beliefs, every character was interesting and the main cast of the game (Robin, Royal, Mina and Elro) were well written interesting and honestly watching the credits (the scenes following what happens to some of the people) just wanted me to play the game again. RIP Royal...
@sadglovem36787 жыл бұрын
This game is AMAZING! I got it about i week ago and i've completed about 70% of the game. The story is great, nearly every character has likeable traits, the animation is BEAUTIFUL, the weapons are all fun to use (especially the Usurper shot) and Dear God the bosses.
@vuivraalbastra6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this video! Just finished Iconoclast and I might put it in my top 10 favourite games of all time. The battle with Ash was actually my least favourite part of the game after the tower escape. The tower part, the fact that the objects to collect are not really important for the game (the tweaks are not that powerful) and some details at the end of the story are the only weak points of the game in my opinion. The gameplay is fresh from the beginning to the end. It can be hard to solve, but not hard like in bullet hell battles, which are often used in game for cheap difficulty. Even if you avoid the damage and hit the enemies, they won't take damage unless you understand what you need to do, even the bosses, which mostly have multiple phases. All the characters feel real and loveable, even the villains, which often feel like good persons which only had a hard life or that are misguided. In fact, the lane between good guy and bad guy is very thin. My favourite one was Royal because he had the most significant character development, but all the main characters had that, more or less. The story got darker and darker in such a way it was shocking, but not overwhelming. This proves very good writing and great game design. The music was so good and fitting and often it helped me stay calm and positive in frustrating situations. Beautiful and detailed art which combined with the clever dialogue made the cutscenes fascinating. Play this game. Is so worth it. 9,5/10 for me.

@PhazonSpear4 жыл бұрын
Funny, I had the exact opposite takeaway in that I loved how confusing the Tower was because I had to memorize what was on each screen so I could go back to each area with each of the tools that I reacquired, while I hated the stealth boss because of how ridiculously easy it was (just hide one character and hunt down the boss with the other, and the boss dies in two hits anyway). The boss near the end of the game in the gas chamber was what that boss should have been, with you having to figure out where the boss is based on what happens in the environment and the rippling effect of it's cloaking device while also being on a time limit. As it stands, the fight where you're hiding from a boss that punishes you for doing what you've been doing the entire game feels weird, because you never use the skills you were meant to learn there anywhere else. If anything, the General White encounter taught you what that fight tried to teach you.

I just marathon'd the game last night and I gotta say it was a pretty good experience for the money, credit where credit is due, it's a lot higher quality than a lot of modern games that try their hand at the Genre. My personal favorite aspect is how during some boss fights, you can learn how to avoid hits by watching your party members run, duck and cover, which just lends itself to the game's great attention to detail. Though, I can't help but feel a little unsatisfied in the end.

is that all that it changes? Seems to run a little counter to the core of the game. The base experience is so forgiving with health because it's meant as a non-stop thrillride that takes you along from one setpiece to the next. Making small mistakes get punished so much more severely means you can't really have that thrillride because its always stopping and starting.
