I have been writing down my breaks, and achievements on other challenges (not that they are very high 😂) however, it massively helps and gives a more realistic target to aim for, rather than being daunted by potting everything. It keeps it difficult enough to keep improving but not difficult. And I have a measure against myself

I really like your videos, and learn a lot from them. I have a technical problem and hope you can help me. When I aim for a shot, everything seems fine with my first feathers, but then during my backswing I'm pulling my elbow inwards a lot. Especially on power shots. Bc of this, I feel like I'm not hitting the cue ball where I intended. My backswing is longer than my feathers (like I see with you too) and I feel like my grip on the backswing is too loose (some fingers are actually letting go off the cue for a moment). Maybe this plays a part in this. Also at first my elbow is sticking out slightly, but not much. Do you know why I might be pulling my elbow inwards and how I could fix it? Thx in advance.
@BartonSnooker5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jas, It could be a few things that are causing the problem. The grip itself could mean you are losing control of the cue. It's difficult without actually seeing you play to diagnose the problem though. It could also be the way you are set-up on the shot making it difficult to keep everything on-line. The elbow sticking out slightly isn't necessarily a problem, so again, I'd need to see your set-up. My advice would be to do your cue action VERY SLOWLY with no balls. Just get down on the table and feel the cue action all the way through the backswing and then the delivery to the chest. Try to feel what how the grip is working, how the arm is moving, and what is causing you to pull the cue in slightly. Hope that's helps a bit 🙂

Awesome mate ...... Wish I could control my game my delivery hand bloody seems to twist as it hits my side I can't stop doing this very frustrating...
@BartonSnooker5 жыл бұрын
I would really slow down my cue action when I had a problem like this. Don't even have the white ball , just get down on the baulk like. Then move your arm backwards and forwards and all the way to the chest, and get a feel for what you need to do to keep the cue online. You should then hopefully feel what starts to make the hand twist and be able to get a feeling for keeping the wrist more locked.
@seanmilhuisen17305 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply will.try this o feel it only happens when I try a firmer shot not when I play soft but then I feel I can't control the ball as well . I'm a 10 handi cap I'm not good by all means

When your putting the side on to come back off the cusion are you aiming for the pocket or aiming thicker for the throw off the white ball? Or because the cue ball and object ball are to close is it not going to throw the white off?
@meok29210 ай бұрын
2 reds and lose position 😢 Finding the stun with a touch of side difficult as the white keeps heading to the side cushion, no matter what side I impart. Maybe not getting enough stun on. Plus, I always struggle with 1/4 ball blacks off the spot.

@@dynmow7426 complicated to explain in a message. But the margin for errors is better playing with side than it is if I only play with stun. This is something I am teaching in my sessions all the time.

I just cant aim shots consistently. I do some ridiculous pots and then I follow it with missing easy shots. I feel that I have developed no eye for aiming and I feel very lost when I'm stood looking at a shot. I never look and go "it's definitely THAT line there I want" I'm more "hm... this looks about right... we'll see when I take the shot" I see players getting 80-90% of their successful pots RIGHT IN THE HEART OF THE POCKET. And here I am rattling jaws from a foot away or missing the jaws completely. I know playing the shots as softly as possible helps a lot in terms of my cueing, and I do see a ridiculous improvement when I just roll the cue ball slowly. But I still don't KNOW I'm aiming right. I commit to the shot as if I am but it's different to when you get down and KNOW you're aiming. Also I don't know whether to start applying side to shots when I'm not potting consistently yet. Sorry for the ramble, it's just so frustrating because I want to be doing all these drills and exercises but I just can't pot more than 1 or 2 balls in a row 95% of the time

You are a great coach and I love your videos but I think you are using unnecessary siding on cue ball , one can get the same action on cue ball by hitting high and low on cue ball , what you say about that , please reply
@BartonSnooker5 жыл бұрын
Hi there. It's always a funny subject when it comes to using side. You are right in that it isn't essential that I use side spin, but for me, I find it more reliable to play these little stun shots with a touch of "helping side", to just throw me a bit wide off the cushion. I have heard Ronnie O'Sullivan, Shaun Murphy and Graham Dott comment on doing exactly the same thing. In that they play a lot of shots with a flick of side spin. It always raises eyebrows when players play with a bit of side as I am doing in this break, but in my experience LOTS of very good players use bits of side to help the position of the white. Side is especially useful when you're a bit high on the black, and you're bouncing off the black cushion and coming up for reds. With a stun shot here, a small mistake in height on the cue ball can take the white on a totally wrong path. However, is you play with plain ball and a touch of side spin, you can alter the angle that the cue ball comes off the cushion much more reliably. With plain ball, the white will always hit the black cushion in the same place, and then you just alter the line it takes up the table with varying amounts of side. Some players may do it differently to me and prefer to varying amounts of stun. However, lots of others also do it just like me. Just like in my other videos, get used to basic positional shots around the pink and black first, and then you can experiment with side spin and how it may be useful for controlling the white ball more effectively.
@BartonSnooker5 жыл бұрын
Also, have a look at this interview with Graham Dott saying he rarely plays plain ball: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bImkeqVtoc14h5Y

But some times when a club player just like me try to.use side the object ball usually takes a different path , is there any tip to keep the object ball in line while using sides cos I am really scared of using lot of sides cos I usually miss the pot thanks
@BartonSnooker5 жыл бұрын
@@bilalyaqub2833 it takes practice because you must understand how the cue ball behaves when playing with side and make small adjustments in the potting line. I will hopefully do a video in the near future explaining how side spin works. Just for you reference I have found the quote from Shaun Murphy talking about side as well: Shaun Murphy: "Most players i know use side on most shots. I play nearly every shot with running / helping side."
@bilalyaqub28335 жыл бұрын
Thanks for you advise , looking forward to watch your video
