Great clarity of videos. Two “French Angels” by the nurse at the end of the video are actually Black Angelfish. French Angels retain their colors, especially their yellow on sides to full adulthood, Blacks, as in the pair you filmed lose most of their yellow coloration by adulthood. Also, Black Angelfish have squared off tails, versus rounded tails for French Angels. French Angels swim like clownfish whereas Black Angels swim just like most other fish. Spent a lot of time snorkeling and collecting tropicals with hand nets in this area in the late 60’s. Thanks for the memories!

@@khaleemali4387 Correct! Scientific name is as you describe. Many years ago locally we just referred to them as Black Angelfish....sounded better and was more descriptive than Gray

2:03 - I noticed that the lobsters seem to be greeting you as the camera gets closer to them. The feelers seem to go together towards the camera. I've noticed this same behavior with the spiny lobsters I've been photographing in Malibu with my red TG-5. No light shining or anything. I wonder if they are just curious.

Hey Joe, Great videos. For Biscayne Bay are you using red filters for your go pro 7? I will be in Miami shortly and was wondering if I should bring filters
@JoeOceanside
@JoeOceanside 4 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks! I have not used any red filters yet. Most snorkeling is shallow so the colors are still natural enough for me. I want to make a video soon on red filter vs no filter and see how they compare. Thanks for watching!

Yeah it was a cool spot. You have to time the tide though. Peak high tide is best, visibility will be the best then and the current will slack off for a few minutes, before it starts ripping again. Make sure you always have someone in the boat to spot you. Thanks for watching!

When is the best time to go?
@JoeOceanside
@JoeOceanside 5 жыл бұрын
Probably 1 hour before peak high tide, the water will be the clearest and the current will be slowing down. Once tide starts going out, the bay water will be murky and the current will be incredibly strong. Best way is to have one person in the boat to monitor nearby boat traffic and stay near you while you snorkel.

Depends where you are, this is part of a sanctuary so no collecting here. But other places you can unless it is a protected species I think
