It's amazing what you can discover with just a little curiosity and the right gear; No need to be a pro diver to appreciate the beauty beneath the waves. All it takes is a mask, a snorkel, fins and the right sunscreen. By the way, certain types of sunscreen can be harmful to coral reefs. Chemicals such as oxybenzone and octinoxate, commonly found in many sunscreens, have been shown to contribute to coral bleaching and can disrupt the growth and development of coral reefs. Therefore, it's crucial to choose sunscreen products that are labeled as “reef-safe” or mineral-based, as they are less likely to harm coral reefs and other marine life! Consider it when you prepare your holidays! It is also important to respect the marine environment and its inhabitants by avoiding touching corals and disturbing marine life. The marine wildlife is accustomed to human presence, but be aware how far you can go without disturbing them (too much). Did you enjoy my video? Hi Liza ! We booked our stay at the Fayrouz Plaza Beach Hotel through the Sunweb agency. We can recommend this very pleasant hotel. The food is okay, but remember, it’s still Egypt... so be cautious with raw vegetables and water due to our delicate Western stomachs. The underwater pictures were taken on the reef directly accessible from the hotel’s beach. The dugong and turtles can be seen from a beach located 1 km away: Marsa Mubarak. You can see a lot of turtles. Spotting the dugong, however, requires a lot of luck. We took a day trip to Luxor in a private car that we booked ourselves via Trip Advisor. It's exhausting because it takes 5 hours each way and their driving style is terrifying, but it’s fantastic, and we saw a lot of things. For the dolphin excursion, it's a reef a few kilometers offshore. Several companies organize these sea trips. We booked directly with Marsa Alam Travel (facebook.com/Marsa.alam.travel) before we left. It's well organized, and a shuttle picks you up at your hotel (it’s quite a long drive...).
