We met Sarah and Dan and Snow Buddy Dog Sled Tours (located about 45 minutes from Steamboat Springs). They are an amazing couple with a love for these huskies and a passion to see them doing what they love to do. Clearly, Snow Buddy Dog Sled Tours is much more that just a business venture for them. They have a heart for seeing their dogs live a full life, even through old age. It was also apparent that they enjoy sharing these dogs and their lives with others.
Our tour was called a 3 hour experience but it was much more than that. We felt we were able to participate in more that just the dog mushing (although that was definitely very exciting and fun). Sarah shared with us so much about the dog racing industry and the lives of these amazing huskies. We were able to participate in harnessing and hooking them up as well as feeding them afterwards. And in between they were about the friendliest dogs you can imagine.
But as soon as they were all hooked up, they wanted to RUN. They were barking and jumping and getting very excited!
Coming from Sunny Florida I (previously) didn't see dog sledding in my future. So this experience was definitely a thrill and an education. I am SO GLAD we did this. And I'm really glad we picked this company. The experience was small and personal. Not a huge crowd of people. It felt like family.
