I think you are lovely people because you both appreciate what we have in this world. Even looking at a frozen wild plant or the frost covered lake, there is such beauty. We just need to slow down and look. I have cycled 1000s of kms on previous cycling holidays. Also a great was to see the world.

Oh my word! I signed up to this Walk1,000 miles challenge last month! For me this is a MASSIVE step forward ( no pun intended!) I am walking my way back to pre diabetes status ( along with low carb) and the walking is really new for me. My year will be up next August ( 2022) and despite developing plantar fasciitis ( groan) I am starting to enjoy walking ! My lovely neck muffler and gold medallion arrived yesterday!🤣

Oh , just a little precursor memory of lovely minus temperatures. Our weather station tells us it's going to be a cold winter, anyway colder than the last green winters we have had.... I'll believe it when it's here. I love it when it's crunchy underfoot. Hoping you will be able to enjoy it.

We are also hoping for a cold winter, even though many people think it is hard on a boat. There is nothing better than waking up to a snowy morning and lighting the fire ready to come hope to after a chilly walk.

It’s coming up to 50 years since I left Manchester and came to Perth W/A and I left in the Middle of winter and snow and ice everywhere and now I miss the snow but not the cold I also started my working life in 1963 and that should have put me of winter for life but after watching your great narrow boat movies I'm missing it already. Good luck with your ventures. The model train club I belong to here in Perth W/A also like to watch your You tube channel at lunch time on our large screen in the club rooms and you can hear the quite come over the room when your channel comes on and you can almost see the tears in their eyes "True" Thank you so much Bill

Thank you so much that is lovely to know that so many people enjoy the videos. I was hearing a story recently of someone on a canal boat in 1963 and they couldn't even get out of the boat as the doors were frozen and blocked with snow. I can't imagine how they coped. It has been freezing here with snow on and off for a couple of weeks and we are now glad it is melting. It is fun for a while but we are ready for sunshine and daffodils now.

brilliant,,,,, it is 40% and so humid here in Japan and way too hot to go outside,,,,,Even with fans and air-conditioning on maximum,,,,I just have my boxers on, and a six pack of Suntory Premium Malt's in the fridge. We searched for snow videos and my wife, as was I, was delighted to see several videos,,,,,,Oh look,,,,, Flan and Lich - bearing in mind she is Japanese, bless her. Hi guys! Grace & I were just talking this morning about how nearly everything used to come in some form of paper back in the day (yes, we’re old). We feel it’s time to return to that sort of thing, as well as shift away from plastic containers all together. Thank you for what you do as you tootle along the beautiful canals. You’ll never pick it all up, but you’re making a difference and showing others the need. And I’ve often wondered how on earth you contain the mud from the dogs & walking from completely mucking up your home?
@FloatingOurBoat
@FloatingOurBoat 4 жыл бұрын
You are so right about the plastic. The best solution is to stop making it. It has been difficult this year with the dogs but we have old towels ready to rub them down then hopefully they just lay by the fire to dry off. We just have to stay relaxed about it and sweep the floor 2-3 times a day

My wife and two granddaughters have walked Hadrian’s Wall, East to West, twice now with me as mobile support moving from campsite to campsite with a caravan. Walking with tent is awkward unless you really wild camp as ‘campsites’ are sited 2-3 miles off the route and add a lot to your journey. It is worthwhile and given good weather, very enjoyable. Hope the situation allows you to do it.Can I look after your boat whilst you are away ? I will of course pay rent. Keep well. Regards AJ

I did some walking of Hadrian's Wall decades ago. On a 6 weeks visit to the UK. I was walking along the wall which went through a farmers property. He said hello to me and I said G'day. Straight away he said, "From Australia are you lad." We talked and talked. He wanted to know so much about Australia and farming there. I am in two minds about the weather these days. There you are freezing and it be snowing. Here it is 40C steaming hot days. Even in Winter the canals of the UK look amazing.

Great video, shows the true challenges of winter living on a narrowboat..perfect.There are a-----holes all over the world who dump garbage, I remember the UK being particularly bad when we lived there, but it's the same here in Canada. I have been watching the floods all over the UK on BBC news, it looks pretty bad especially under the present circumstances. Shame you couldn't vlog your new boat build, looking forward to seeing it on the water ! Cheers, Nigel

Tough times. Walking Hadrians wall.... I lived as a student at Newcastle Uni in Wallsend for almost 3 years in 1977. Tough at first but the people got to know us and much better. Wish you luck with that walk. Visited much of the wall as a Student, now its better managed I understand , good luck. No canal , would have been hundreds of locks..Now in Texas USA, still in shorts all year, I don't have any long trousers - well I do, just don't fit me !

So glad you showed that the cut is not always pristine and clean, it is becoming the opposite with many low life's now on the cut Rich, myself and another boater pulled out of the Ashby in two weeks 24 carriers bags full of plastic waste and nappies full of you know what plus two dustbin bags full of the same, it could only be a someone with a boat as the stretch had no road access alongside it. Apart from that a great vlog.

Great to find you back again! Thanks so much for the video. The walks look like great fun in spite of the mud, although that’s easy for us to say when we don’t have to clean it off dogs and boots. The pandemic is such a strange time, when we are all feeling a mix of idle and stir-crazy, but at least we all share the same experience regardless of where we are.

sourdough is easy, but you might find crockery better for keeping it in if you are now using plastic or glass. And 2 crocks so you can change it out, clean and set to air, a bit of sun helps to reduce bacteria you don't want in your 'growing jar'. Take out what you need, put water, a spoon of sugar, and more flour into the container, mix up, put on the top, and set aside to let grow. Make your bread and enjoy. Your starter should need used every 2-3 days.
@FloatingOurBoat
@FloatingOurBoat 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Maggie, that is very helpful. Can you clarify something for me. You feed the starter to reactivate it, take out what you need to use, then fed the remainder again to save for next time. Is that right?
@TheMaggieMia
@TheMaggieMia 4 жыл бұрын
@@FloatingOurBoat You want to have a nice amount of that starter because you actually take about 1/2-2/3 out for use, then into your starter container goes water, a teaspoon-1tablespoon of sugar and then flour to thicken it back up into a nice goo. Not as thin as cake batter but not soft cookie dough thick. I lived on a remote ranch for years and we had sourdough, it made pancakes, bread, waffles, the base is the sourdough, what you add in makes the difference, and how thick, you cook so you will find it not all that hard to adjust. Too much for pancakes, that leftover batter is the start of my bread dough.

@@FloatingOurBoat Yes, and Keep it Clean is the key to keeping a healthy yeast culture. In areas where bakeries still use their own yeast cultures instead of purchased yeasts a person who has a good mouth for tastes can tell you which bakery that bread came from. A man who lived and worked in the markets in Mexico City said he knew which bakery the bread was from every time.
@TheMaggieMia
@TheMaggieMia 4 жыл бұрын
I am not sure I was very clear and organized, but it’s get that starter/yeast jar out, dump part into my mixing bowl, then with clean wet cloth, wipe my jar rim, add water, a tiny bit of sugar, flour, mix up, make sure rim and lid are clean, put lid on and set my jar where it lives, then mix up whatever I am making. But it’s not workable to keep a sourdough jar going if you can’t use it every other day or every 2 days, it will either die or go bad... been there, done that.
