Oh , just a little precursor memory of lovely minus temperatures. Our weather station tells us it's going to be a cold winter, anyway colder than the last green winters we have had.... I'll believe it when it's here. I love it when it's crunchy underfoot. Hoping you will be able to enjoy it.

We are also hoping for a cold winter, even though many people think it is hard on a boat. There is nothing better than waking up to a snowy morning and lighting the fire ready to come hope to after a chilly walk.

It’s coming up to 50 years since I left Manchester and came to Perth W/A and I left in the Middle of winter and snow and ice everywhere and now I miss the snow but not the cold I also started my working life in 1963 and that should have put me of winter for life but after watching your great narrow boat movies I'm missing it already. Good luck with your ventures. The model train club I belong to here in Perth W/A also like to watch your You tube channel at lunch time on our large screen in the club rooms and you can hear the quite come over the room when your channel comes on and you can almost see the tears in their eyes "True" Thank you so much Bill

Thank you so much that is lovely to know that so many people enjoy the videos. I was hearing a story recently of someone on a canal boat in 1963 and they couldn't even get out of the boat as the doors were frozen and blocked with snow. I can't imagine how they coped. It has been freezing here with snow on and off for a couple of weeks and we are now glad it is melting. It is fun for a while but we are ready for sunshine and daffodils now.

Hi guys! Grace & I were just talking this morning about how nearly everything used to come in some form of paper back in the day (yes, we’re old). We feel it’s time to return to that sort of thing, as well as shift away from plastic containers all together. Thank you for what you do as you tootle along the beautiful canals. You’ll never pick it all up, but you’re making a difference and showing others the need. And I’ve often wondered how on earth you contain the mud from the dogs & walking from completely mucking up your home?
@FloatingOurBoat4 жыл бұрын
You are so right about the plastic. The best solution is to stop making it. It has been difficult this year with the dogs but we have old towels ready to rub them down then hopefully they just lay by the fire to dry off. We just have to stay relaxed about it and sweep the floor 2-3 times a day

sourdough is easy, but you might find crockery better for keeping it in if you are now using plastic or glass. And 2 crocks so you can change it out, clean and set to air, a bit of sun helps to reduce bacteria you don't want in your 'growing jar'. Take out what you need, put water, a spoon of sugar, and more flour into the container, mix up, put on the top, and set aside to let grow. Make your bread and enjoy. Your starter should need used every 2-3 days.
@FloatingOurBoat4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Maggie, that is very helpful. Can you clarify something for me. You feed the starter to reactivate it, take out what you need to use, then fed the remainder again to save for next time. Is that right?
@TheMaggieMia4 жыл бұрын
@@FloatingOurBoat You want to have a nice amount of that starter because you actually take about 1/2-2/3 out for use, then into your starter container goes water, a teaspoon-1tablespoon of sugar and then flour to thicken it back up into a nice goo. Not as thin as cake batter but not soft cookie dough thick. I lived on a remote ranch for years and we had sourdough, it made pancakes, bread, waffles, the base is the sourdough, what you add in makes the difference, and how thick, you cook so you will find it not all that hard to adjust. Too much for pancakes, that leftover batter is the start of my bread dough.

@@FloatingOurBoat Yes, and Keep it Clean is the key to keeping a healthy yeast culture. In areas where bakeries still use their own yeast cultures instead of purchased yeasts a person who has a good mouth for tastes can tell you which bakery that bread came from. A man who lived and worked in the markets in Mexico City said he knew which bakery the bread was from every time.

I am not sure I was very clear and organized, but it’s get that starter/yeast jar out, dump part into my mixing bowl, then with clean wet cloth, wipe my jar rim, add water, a tiny bit of sugar, flour, mix up, make sure rim and lid are clean, put lid on and set my jar where it lives, then mix up whatever I am making. But it’s not workable to keep a sourdough jar going if you can’t use it every other day or every 2 days, it will either die or go bad... been there, done that.

Looks like you’re coping really well with Lockdown in the Winter wonderland. I am picking my Damson plums from 3 trees this week in New Zealand Fran. I’ll be making damson gin, jelly and jam and plum sauce. Masses also to give to friends so it’s a busy time for me.

Hey....we passed you on the day of all the rain and got to Anderton boat lift. We was to go on to the Bridgewater but during that awful evening there was a landslide a couple of hundred metres past the lift. I don't know if you have any footage of it but I can send you a short video before the barriers went up. Keith and Rosalyn and Harvey 🐕. Timeless. Met u at Venetian. Take care.

Hi both, hope you’re well. Got some good news, We can pick our narrowboat up on Saturday and move her to her mooring beings as she’s going to be a live aboard, her name is Moon Fleet with a picture of moon 🌙 and horses on her, not sure how long it’s going to take us to get there as were very new to all this, I’m so nervous and excited at the same time 🤪 Have a great day Jude and Rob XX

Bless your hearts, those were some muddy tow paths. I hope the weather gets better for you. Here in Texas, we had our day of snow and now it will stay relatively warm and maybe rain. Nothing like what you all are getting. Stay warm and so inspiring that even in the cold weather you are still getting out and walking. Good luck on the new weaving attachment.
