Ryan, based on your videos, I just ordered the Alpha Breeze via your affiliate link. I cannot wait for it to arrive! After a lifetime of camping from tent to popup camper to toy hauler to travel trailer...now that I'm older and a woman on my own, going full circle back to tent camping makes sense for me financially. I first fell in love with the aesthetic and history of Springbar tents, but I live in south Louisiana. Subtropical humidity and almost daily rain throughout the region make me think the challenge of keeping a huge canvas tent dry and mildew-free is more than I'm up for at this point. I found the Alpha Breeze via your videos and after doing lots of research, I think it is the perfect tent for me! I'm ready for a spacious and comfy "living room" look and feel, with height to stand up inside, plus the fresh light color is beautiful. Thank you for all your videos, they really are helping people who don't live anywhere near the retail showrooms to see these tents in person.

I decided to go ahead and get the Alpha Breeze based on your review. The quality of the materials is excellent. It’s my first non-backpacking tent so I’m a bit overwhelmed by the size, but my wife wanted a tent she could stand up in and she’s as pleased as can be. It’s a great size for the four of us.

That's awesome; glad you all are loving the tent! It was actually my first non-backpacking tent as well and it took a bit for me to adjust to it also. The other day I was going through some of our old backpacking gear and couldn't believe the size and weight of our old tent! Congrats on the new tent and hope you all have a great time out there!

This is easily the most comprehensive review of the Alpha Breeze tent. I would add that the duralumin tent poles are much heftier than tent poles you'll find on something like an REI Kingdom tent and this adds to the stability of the Alpha Breeze.

So, you bought a Springbar? I used to own a Traveller and spent many nights in it. I've been in campgrounds in high winds where every other tent blew down except my SB. Same with heavy rains, nary a drop. They're beautiful tents and stay warm/cool.

Hey, so I used Nikwax Tent and Gear SolarProof Wateroroofing Spray. If you have the space and the weather is good, I’d recommend just setting your tent up outside, clean it well, and spray the tent with the Nikwax in sections. Wait a couple minutes and then wipe any extra product off. The top of the tent will be hard to reach, just pull it down from the side of the tent until it’s reachable. Highly recommend using gloves and a respirator. For seam sealing, you should only have to apply it to the triangle vents and the cornered of the tent where the blue webbing is stitched to the fabric.

I’m going out this weekend for my first run with this tent. I bought the MRS Ground High stakes for that very same reason you mentioned. I’m hoping they’ll be a good fit. In regards to sun UV exposure, I’m a little surprised you had to treat it so soon. It should not take 4-5 days in the sun, maybe 2-3 months. Especially as it’s specs are much higher than almost any other competitor brand.

Nice, have fun out there! We took our Alpha Breeze out extensively over that summer with lots of rainy trips as well. In the fall, I noticed a couple sections of the tent where the water wasn't beading off as well as it used to, so that's when I decided to just re apply the coating.
@jacobpetersen5662
@jacobpetersen5662 2 жыл бұрын
@@rtmadani Ok, great info, thanks. I thought you mentioned you did it after just a 4-5 day trip in heavy sun. Our 3 day trip went well with the Breeze, we were extremely happy. Only thing I found was that the side windows didn't allow for as much airflow as the rainfly sits too close to the mesh if it is closed. With a bit of wind the rainfly was actually touching about 80% of the mesh window. Not sure if that would affect water resistance either? We used the velcro on the rainfly to tighten it to the frame in the middle X section, so even if we had used the extra guy lines we would not be able to pull that rainfly out further like you showed in this video as it's firmly connected to the frame and will not budge unless the velcro is loosened or not used. What I actually did was to unclip each middle side of the rain fly and pull it away from the tent and stake them independently. That worked very well that way.
@rtmadani
@rtmadani 2 жыл бұрын
@@jacobpetersen5662 Hey. glad to hear the trip went well! The rain fly does sit close to those side back windows, but on mine it doesn't ever touch (or at least I haven't noticed it yet). I am not sure if you already do these steps in your setup, but I am going to mention them anyway just in case. - Make sure to use all 6 of the velcro attachments on the rainfly. - Are you staking the webbing on all corners of tent outwards? (They twist easily and if staked inward, the rain fly may sit even closer on the sides) - Make sure to pull all the tabs tight after buckling. On mine, I haven't had any issues with water on any areas on the tent. I haven't every been out in a serious down poor, but have been out in prolonged periods of rain. I'm not sure if I actually used the velcro in that review video, so it probably looks like it pulls even further out. You're right though, with the velcro in place it should pull both the tent and the fly together, not just the fly like I showed.

The seam sealant only needs to be applied to the vent sections and potentially the corners on the floor on the alpha breeze. I recommend checking out this KZbin channel: theoutdoorgearreview. He has a great video demonstrating how to seam seal.

Now that you have the Land Nest M as well, which one do you like better?
@rtmadani
@rtmadani 26 күн бұрын
I'm still leaning towards the Alpha Breeze, but honestly I like them both for different reasons. Here are somethings to consider. Alpha Breeze: - Higher ceilings - More windows/doors - Better weather resistance Land Nest M: - Cozier inner tent that attaches with hooks to the fly. (good for setting up in weather!) - Covered front area that can be even more useable if opting for the solo inner tent - Can use as a shelter with the front and back open for venting. Depending on how many people you camp with could be something else to think about. The Alpha breeze has more space for more than 2 people. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey Ryan! I have a major crush on this tent, and I'm hoping it'll fit in the space we have available. I can see that the fly extends the tent's length to 14'9", but I can't see how much of that is at the front and how much is at the back. We regularly camp at a campground with 12'x12' platforms, and I'm ok with the back vestibule extending off the back of the platform, but I'd like the full front to fit. Any insights?

It could definitely work but just note that the peak height of 6’1” is only in the center. It tapers down along the back and slightly in the front. At 5’8” I have just enough head room to fully stand up and comfortably walk in and out of the tent. I’m positive you’ll have to duck your head in this tent, so if your looking for a tent you can comfortably walk inside/change clothes without your head rubbing the ceiling, then I’d look at something else. Thank you for watching, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey Ryan,, really enjoy your videos! I’m thinking to buy a tarp and wanna ask your advice. I’m thinking about the Takibi Tarp Hexa in Ivory or Hexa Tarp for my Alpha Breeze. Takibi has the nice colour, but I worry it is easy to get dirty. Besides, are their design and materials the same?
@rtmadani
@rtmadani 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! So they're both 210D polyester. The Hexa Tarp M has a 3,000mm coating, whereas the Takibi Hexa has 1,800mm. They are identical in shape and size, but the Takibi will have extra loops to attach the inner roof. I was originally leaning towards the Takibi Tarp as well, but I changed my mind for a few reasons. One, I didn't want to deal with dodging all the smoke underneath the tarp. And the second reason, as you mentioned is clean up. I imagine the soot from the fire will build up and could be hard to clean. If you camp in the rain often and want to have an open fire underneath, then the Takibi Hexa may be a good choice. Personally, I'm thinking of adding a wood burning stove under my Hexa M Tarp for rainy weather.
@lee179hk
@lee179hk 2 жыл бұрын
@@rtmadani I mainly used the snow peak camp burner for cooking, so I think it wont be too much smoke underneath the tarp. But I found that the Takibi Hexa is more expensive even it’s coating is 1,800 mm only. I guess Hexa Tarp seems more worthy? (Without doubt, the ivory colour is so cool)
@rtmadani
@rtmadani 2 жыл бұрын
@@lee179hk Yeah it would be nice if Snow Peak would offer the Hexa Tarp in Ivory without the takibi inner roof for those who aren't planning on doing open fires underneath. You're basically paying over $200 for that takibi inner roof, so the value depends on whether or not you see your self using that liner.

Hey! Yes, it is definitely something to consider. I’m not actually sure what chemicals it contains, but the label wasn’t there when I purchased the tent. You can always reach out to Snow Peak to see what exactly the label is referring to. It may just be the waterproof coating on the rain fly.
