Hi Brandon. Wow. Ever since I bought my first DVD (and then subsequent blu-ray releases) of "Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs" I have always thought how cool it would if Disney actually took the "Soup" Scene, and finished it.. And here is someone - not employed by Disney - who has that magical inspiration - and amazing dexterity - to actually do it yourself. I am totally blown away by the few seconds of colour that you have achieved. Especially because "Snow White" (1937) was shot and printed on that beautiful 3-Strip-Technicolor nitrate film. Well, it appears that you have actually successfully achieved a replica Technicolor saturation, which is no easy task. Technicolor back in the 1930's had a certain special "look" to it, that seemingly is never replicated today, however your footage is remarkable, and your technical achievement is so remarkably high. I salute you for what you have done, and I urge you to carry on. Brandon, one thing I am extremely interested in? Have you had any support from Disney attendant to all this work? Or are they actively discouraging your efforts? Disney are usually extremely possessive of their back-catalogue, and I wondered if you've had any hassle of them? (I sincerely hope not).. Speaking of the Technicolor process and the film stock of the time, the good news is that all ten reels of the original camera negatives still exist, despite being on cellulose nitrate which is highly flammable.

What you've already done of the sequence in cels is honestly quite well-done, admittedly… Though if I had to give criticisms; The cel linework doesn't seem to be that much 1:1 with the characters in the movie (Happy barely looks outlined at all, and Bashful's scene, it is a bit obvious that the cel was digitally colored on the same layer as the linework… When I digitally color my drawings, animation or otherwise, I put the colors on a layer that goes underneath the linework, in similar fashion to how cels are inked and painted on separate sides; Notably, in the movie the dwarfs' cels are inked with a dark desaturated indigo outline, instead of black or varying colors), and overall the colors seem a bit too vibrant compared to most prints of the movie, especially Snow White's dress. The backgrounds being basically Photoshopped reconstructions is really cool, but it also seems like a cheat strat… I'm not gonna be against it if that's how they'll look when the entire scene is finished, but maybe see if you or someone can study the background paintings from the film's 7 credited BG artists, and try authentically painting them within the vein instead? Other than that, this is still very well done, like I said. 👍

This work is remarkable, outstanding! The inking and cel painting are significantly improved over your earlier video and the description of how you recreated the backgrounds is truly a tour de force. Samuel Armstrong would be amazed. The amount of work to complete this project is indeed obscene but what a delight it would be to have this segment taken to full animation. I doubt that Disney would consider doing it. No doubt Ward Kimball would have been delighted. My only question is what paints did you use for this project?

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I do plan on getting back into it, and working on making it the best quality I can. The paints are just cheap acrylic paints, like Folkart and Ceramcoat. Real paint for actual cels is formulated to dry very flat and smooth. These cheap paints are bumpy, but it works for me. Thanks again!
