Snowboard Waxing - Super Cheap Method - HD

Here is my super cheap method for waxing your snowboard. All the materials cost me less than £15. Once bought your set up for life. No technical machinery needed and everything can be bought off ebay.
iron cost me £4.50 from ASDA
nylon brush was 60p
scraper £2
De.WaX.It was £5

Always drip wax from tip to tail starting with edges first as the warm wax penetrates immediately and the edges need the most attention as they dry out faster. Also hot scrape the first coat, then reapply and let cool 30min then scrape tip to tail always never sideways as he did, then scotch brite tip to tail, never sideways or circular. Always loosen the binding bolts or you'll have air pockets when the hot Iron hits the board. Apply soft wax first then hot scrape, then hard Wax let cool 30min or over night for best results.

ethiopianeyes You don’t need to hot wax, you can just use a brass or steel brush to remove any left over wax.

Also another thing is the angle you scrape the wax. You should keep an around 45 degrees between the scraper and the board. So if you pull the scraper from tip to tail the 45 degree angle will be facing you. When you push the scraper, alternatively, the 45 angle should be facing away from you. Also when brushing you should aim to go from tip to tail in one motion in a straight line if possible while applying the same ammount of pressure throughout the lenght. Cool video however, considering it's been made almost 10 yeras ago i'm sure your techinque got a lot better :). Happy shredding y'all.

I have citrus based degreaser. Do you think that’ll work? I use it to clean my power tools when they get real dirty on the plastic

Can we debate why using a standard iron is taboo? I understand that the snowboard iron has a narrow heat band compared to a clothes iron, or at least thats as i've read, though I only see an issue if the wax is smoking being ironed, otherwise its just melting, as opposed to burning. Yay/Nay?

No reason at all not to use one. It doesn't give you as good a finish but it's not a major issue. Some people even wrap tinfoil around the iron to smooth it out. If it melts wax... it's good enough :-)

James Stimpson he explains why you have to scrape it off, there’s micro pores in your board and that’s where the wax needs to go, any excess wax will make your board not movie in the snow

Too much wax!! That is how NOT to wax your snowboard. The best waxing is rubbing the wax brick on the board, and then ironing it in mid-low temperature. That´s how you´ll get a waxing close to the waxing that came from the shop. That is how the micro canals in the base, that help the melted snow to flow like the water under a car tire, still being there doing that function. With this method, you rarely have to scrap it after, and you will save tons and tons of wax. And it is a clean job. No wax drops on the floor. It is easy and it really works more effectively than the waxing in the video, which is the one that everybody teaches and I don´t know why. But even for that kind of waxing, you are putting a huge amount of wax mate.
