Same! I have no problem absorbing the terrain on my toe edge; moguls aren’t a problem; but on my heels edge I’ll have a lot of chatter with bumpy terrain. It’s like I have no shocks on my heel edge. I bend my knees during tor side and heel side turns, but it’s like it doesn’t matter on the heel side carve. Does applying more forward lean to the high backs essentially do the same thing or do you have to lift your toes?

Excellent short and to the point video! Learning how to carve properly (applies to 90% of skiers too) and being able to use your snowboard ( heel back, toe straps, edges, etc.) the way it was designed to be used is so important. His video on toe-side turns equally outstanding. Whistler seems really nice. Future trip out there soon.

Nev and all of the snowboard instructors say to keep your weight centered over your board, but when you watch him and other pros ride, you can see when they're on edge their center of mass is way out past their board's edge, not over the board. Their body would be centered over the board if the base was totally flat, but since it's rotated, their body is too. Is gravity pushing you at the angle of your board when you're riding on edge, or is it pushing you straight to the ground like when you're not moving?

@@travbrack you are right but it is more centered over the board when you get lower with your knees bent especially on heal side turns. When in doubt get your butt down as low as you can get it and keep your head up.

Dynamic balance by pros/advanced riders is a bit more complicated, but he made a large improvement by flexing ankles and knees instead of keeping those legs straight and leaning. #1 or #2 top issue for beginning/intermediate riders for me and I've been teaching snowboarding for 28 years.

Does that mean your boots need to have flex at the ankle? Or that they need to be less tight around the calf? I prefer having zero foot movement in the boot, yet struggle to get a heel edge angle. Any tips?
@SnowboardAddiction
@SnowboardAddiction 9 ай бұрын
You do want to have some flex in your ankle to properly initiate your edges and apply pressure when carving. This does not mean however your foot should move inside the boots. It will be harder to flex against a stiffer style of snowboard boot and will require more force in a boot that is stiffer. It does also depend on the profile of snowboard you are riding as well as a rocker/flying v style board is harder to carve than a camber board. :)

I am so confused by all the tips out there! One of them being you should never use your toes! Lean back/forth and use knees to start change your side. If you are using toes, you are doing something wrong and you should always rest/lean on your shoes to do the job here. Im sure different terrain and turns dictates what type of posture/technique you should take, but its just too confusing for beginner
