Skiier here, wearing in the store for 30 minutes doesn’t do much but identify relative size and to a slight extent, pressure points, walking around in the 70 degree store is very different from being locked into your binding on a 25 degree mountain.

Some boots can be custom fitted. You get them to put the liners in the boot oven in the shop and then you put the liners in the boots and crank them down on your feet for a while. Some shops have special kits to put spacers on your toes and pads on your pressure points. Game changer!
@iamdc1144
@iamdc1144 2 жыл бұрын
Pull the stock foot beds out. Stand on them to make sure your feet fill the whole footbed. Put foot beds back in, put boots on. Make sure you feel the liner in the tips of your toes. Buy the boots as well as aftermarket foot beds with arch support. Heat mold as last resort.

I think the key point here is wearing them for a long time before buying. 30mins is the minimum I guess. When you order them online just wear them at home for 1-2 hours and then decide if you want to send them back. I suppose many people buy stuff and might try it on but will only really wear it for a long time when they are on the mountains - when it is too late to give/send back.

WEAR THEM AROUND THE HOUSE. Save your money. Mine are broke in before I even hit the slopes.
@patc2515

This really is the best advice and yet, so few of my friends actually did this. I had mine broken in before even getting them out in the snow and our whole group was complaining of foot / boot pain and mine were fine cuz I wore them for like 15 ish hours combined around the house first. Wish I had heat molded them first but wearing around the house was so helpful.
@heinzhaupthaar5590
@heinzhaupthaar5590 Жыл бұрын
That's some solid advice and should be way more common knowledge imo. It's not just useful for snowboard boots though and I'd like to add some useful experience especially for people with inconveniently formed feet like myself: It's good advice with proper shoes as well, especially with hefty leather boots or some such, like classic man's boots, heavy work or hiking boots. Don't forget - it's not just your boots that wear in, but your feet wear in as well. Sometimes that might be even way more important in some regards! They need a chance to callous where needed so you don't rub and stress your unprepared skin to the point of blistering. Pressure points are often absolutely unavoidable ime, my foot shape for example is a nightmare and there's probably not one single boot in the high stiffness "hardboot-ish" softboot-category that fits perfectly or even just really good without preparation. But our body can deal with that just fine and has its own way of distributing such kinds of point loads and whatnot, it just needs some time for that. It obviously won't happen properly if you go from 0 to 100 on your first day on the slopes and might not happen properly if you just start wearing them around the house. I just get massive blisters without much warning signs if I don't start out carefully. I always do it progressively nowadays if they're rather tight, stiff or otherwise in desperate need of being properly worn in. Starting with just 15 minutes and not too much movement at first and take it from there. If there's a soft red spot starting to develop somewhere a one day break is in order and after that start again by going one step back. Completely stopped me from always having to deal with blisters and being an avid blister plaster user during snow season for good. You can really feel how a callous pad forms to spread the load over a wider area - which doesn't just prevent blisters but makes those boots way more comfortable!

Try putting in some insoles.
