A lot of people get angry because of deleted comments. To be clear, it is rare that I will delete a comment: I delete spammers and particularly egregious jerks ;) But 99% of the time the comments disappear of their own accord and I'm not sure why. Likely because they're filtered by some kind of KZbin algorithm or firewall that blocks comments from VPNs or something like that, but I have nothing to do with it. If your comment disappears, try posting again until it sticks! Good luck!

for those that are not computer savvy if you are trying to boot tails from a PC instead of a Mac, you will want to hit the Esc or F12 key (there should be a manufacture logo with which one it is below it) as that will take you to the Boot menu/Grub. Also funny thing is running an OS from a USB stick is nothing new in the Linux world (which is what Tails is based on) it's called a "Live Boot Environment". It's used by other distros as a place for new users to poke around without permanently breaking the OS which they can install later (usually with a icon on the desktop). Tails just takes away the ability to install the OS on a permanent HDD/SSD and specifically gives you the ability to save data to the live boot environment (I think ubuntu can do this too).
@stefaancodde65782 жыл бұрын
All linux versions can do that just add a small pertition on the usb disk and You start from usb and can download on USB but tails works on USB so thocs computers with USB1 or USB2 then tails works slow, tor itself is slow due to the routing that tor does.
@MrUploader142 жыл бұрын
@@stefaancodde6578 the only distros that are able to save to the USB stick are Ubuntu based and even then most distros disable it by default. Unlike tails and Ubuntu, distros like Linux mint and Popos actively disable it as the boot environment is intended to be a place a user to poke around and play with Linux and not have to worry about breaking and having to reinstall their os.

If one is a bit more computer savvy, I know with linux and Windows pc's you can actually set in your bios that the computer first tries to boot up the usb, if nothing is connected in the usb, then it boots the hard drive. That way you just plug in and start up the computer, if the usb is plugged in, it automatically boots off of it first. If you are using something on Usb alot, it saves a lot of irration of trying to bash keys or if interrupted when starting that you don't have to restart the computer because you missed your window of oppotunity to bash a key. I've been inturpted more than on a few occasions when trying to boot off a external Hard drive or usb.

OK here is the thing about "Tails" it is a glorified RAM DISK. Ram Disks have been around for a long long time. A Ram Disk is exactly as it sounds. It used memory as a drive space, and once you shut off the computer, the drive space is deleted. RAM doesn't have the capacity to hold information, once the power is gone, RAM is erased. Once the RAM DISK is created, anything can be loaded to it, and it can be used exactly as a hard drive, as long as it is powered up, anything on the ram disk is held. With Tails, when you ask it to permanently store something, then it is taking it from the RAM DISK, and storing it on the HARD DISK (or media), again this is soemthing that can be done from any RAM DISK, regardless of how it is created.. TAILS just streamlines the process.. *I am not bashing the program* I think its an ingenious way of introducing people to the world of a Ram Disks. I have nothing to hide, so I still use the bloated Windows..

Also the command line is not that intimidating.. you can literally just use "dd" to copy your if (input file) to the of (output file).. diskutils is to list the drives so you make sure you type the right one.. tails is a great os
