Snowdon - South Ridge route 2018

Wanting to get away from the crowds of the normal routes, I took a hike up mount Snowdon in Wales via the little used but beautiful and challenging 'South Ridge' route or to give it its proper name - Allt Maenderyn!
This route starts out at Rhyd Ddu station, taking the Rhyd Ddu route initially but it soon branches off to take you through an old slate quarry before climbing up and across Bwlch Cwm Llan and rejoining Rhyd Ddu path up to Snowdon itself.

Great video. I lived there for over 15 years and i’ve done Snowdon loads of times from every route except from Rhydd Ddu. If you get the head for heights deffo do Crib Coch. What a route!

Nice video! Snowdon's western paths are generally quieter because they are away from the honeypot routes which start at Llanberis and Pen Y Pass, although those routes do have their merits. The Rhyd Ddu/South Ridge is my favoured climb of Snowdon, a nice circular route in either direction or you could incorporate it with the Snowdon Ranger Path, again in either direction. One criticism - the subject is great, the video is great, the commentary is great but the music is loud and too intrusive, for me anyway - let the scenery be its own soundtrack.

Good job dude, I’m looking to do south ridge with some friends next spring then go down the miners path. Im a complete novice with a bit of a gut but I’m determined to do it.

Go for it mate. Just make sure you take some warm clothes as it can be sunny at the bottom but freezing on the summit! Let us know how you get on 👍
