Hi Everyone
Welcome back to the second video of my three walks I did whilst we we away on holiday in the glorious Snowdonia National Park.
We were staying as ever in the beautiful semi-converted St Mary's Church at the southern end of Tal-y-Llyn Lake. If you are interested in staying there then here is a link to the property on Sykes. We can thoroughly recommend it.
www.sykescotta...
This walk had been on my radar since we were on holiday last year. I looked over from my ascent up Cadair Idris and thought the Foel Ddu ridge looked really interesting.
The route from the starting point of the church is my usual one, up through the forest and through Rhiwogof Farm. Once through the farm its a case of making your own way up on to the ridge and over the three hills that we took in. The second part of the walk does follow a good track pretty much all the way to the woods. A word of advice would be to, when you reach it follow the sign back up to Rhiwogof Farm and not take the path I did. It starts of great but soon becomes very over grown.
If you are interested in doing this walk, which I can really recommend then below is a link to the route in OS maps
explore.osmaps...
If you have any questions please do pop it in the comments and I will answer them.
Enjoy the video and all the very best
Dave

@@chrisbentleywalkingandrambling Hi Chris, thank you mate, it was absolutely brilliant. Just love being able to walk straight out of the front door and straight in to a hike. And being the summer I can set off early and get the sun rise and finished before it gets too warm. Thanks for your support as always mate.😀⛰🥾🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Another brilliant walk Dave, nearly missed this. I am amazed at how well you can navigate your way round these hills and forests as many paths were faint and sketchy. You did well to not end up in the thistles!! You seem to have these hills all to yourself and perhaps that's the main attraction. Well put together on relive, expertly!! Regards, Ashley

@@ashleyjarnold Haha, I just open up OS maps out on the iPad and plot a route following all the public footpaths, some as you say around here are less well walked than others! That track in the forest just gradually got more over grown as I went along but at the point it was really bad it was as quick to carry on! 🤣 I was amazed at the amount of thistle’s, I felt like I should have been in the Highlands. The hills round here are mega quiet mate. As you quite rightly say that’s why I like them. It’s a great place to just sit and gather your thoughts. I think my Mum is fed up of listening to me now, god rest her soul! 🤣 All the best mate Dave 😀🥾⛰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Hi Dave, Wow, snowdonia really is something ❤⛰️. Some gorgeous vistas there. Actually reminded us of wasdale in the lakes at one point. We are just back from a long weekend in the lakes ourselves, and know exactly what you mean about the overgrown footpaths, our legs are scratched to ribbons after wearing shorts in the hot weather 😂🙈🌿🌳🍃. Looks like another brilliant route though, you certainly made the most of your holiday time. Thanks for taking us along, Have a great week ahead, Shell and Pete 😊👊👍

Hi Shell, Hi Pete. It’s a wonderful area. So much more to explore, and it’s all so quiet. I plan on doing the Mary Jones way later this year hopefully. I don’t know if you know of the story of Mary Jones and her bible. I hope you had a lovely weekend, you certainly got the weather. Where were you? I never walk in shorts. For some reason bugs like my pins. 🤣🤣 I’m doing a camp in the forest of Bowland tomorrow evening and then hopefully back in the lakes on Sunday. All the best guys Dave 😃🥾⛰🏕️

@@DAoutdoorsHi Dave, Haven't heard the tale of Mary Jones to be honest, but we will be sure to look it up in more detail 😊👍. Same with the little blighters attacking our pins, we must be glutens for punishment wearing shorts! Tick check needed tonight for sure😆😮. We have been in our favourite part of the South lakes this weekend, with the sun shining and swims in tarns, perfect! We also took a drive up to honnister slate mine to do their adrenaline pass experience, wow! 😱😆🙌

@@o.bsoutdoors3871 Hi Pete, Hi Shell. I’ve attached a link for you to read. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Jones_and_her_Bible As an additional part of the story she married in the church that we stay in, so myself and Marianne have got engrossed in the story. The trail follows her 26 mile route from her house to the town of Bala. I’m going to do it over a couple of days. Wow that sounds amazing, I’ve seen footage of the Honister adrenaline experience, it looks scary stuff! Haha Can’t wait to see the footage if you did video it! 🤣🤣

@DAoutdoors wow, what a legend Mary was! That is a fascinating story, must have been so cool to stay in the church that Mary got married in too, especially since her faith was so important to her🙏. 26 miles barefoot! 😮. I hope you are wearing boots when you follow in her footsteps! 😂. We did film a video of our day at honnister, Pete is itching to start editing it, hopefully be a goodun 😊👍. Cheers Shell and Pete

Haha, yeah mate the first bit of the walk is the same path, but headed left at the gate this time instead of going round to the right. You can’t beat a bit of off piste hiking. There were quite a few sheep trods to follow on the ridge. That Forest track at the end was mad. It just got more and more over grown. If I’d have had shorts on my legs would have been ripped to shreds with the brambles. Haha Seriously mate, the church / cottage is mega, you would not be disappointed. 😃

@@tubbatravels Hi Niall, it certainly was an early start. Just after 5.30, back in time for bacon butties! 🤣 Once I got on to the ridge line there was no paths at all, it was all off piste. Thankfully not too boggy which surprised me. Just one section where I had a dyke to cross which got a bit sketchy. Hope you and Lisa are well mate, all the best 😀🥾⛰

Great views down the valleys there mate. I have a question, I'm doing the Cumbrian Way soon. I don't normally use sticks. What do you think having done it yourself, sticks or don't bother? Thanks mate
@DAoutdoors
@DAoutdoors Ай бұрын
@@trekkingwithtony Hi Tony, it was a cracking walk, tough with a lot being off piste. The odd sheep trod were very welcome indeed🤣 I wouldn’t say sticks are a necessity. There are only really two inclines, Stake Pass and the pull up to lingy hut. So if you don’t use them I would say you don’t need to take them. 👍
