Tip for welding 2 cylinder type things together - get a piece of angle iron, support it so it sits like a V and put the cylinders in there and tack them together. If they're different diameter, figure out the math to shim the side for the smaller one (by the difference of the radius of the two - if you have a 2 inch rod and a 1inch rod you have to weld, radius is gonna be 1 in and 0.5 in, so you have to bring up the smaller one half inch, so shim it with half inch pads on the angle iron) You will get them within a few thou of dead center each time, not to mention straight (as straight as your angle iron is).

To get the two parts welded up and have them be perfectly center, if you have a lathe, you can put each part into the lathe and machine out a 1/4"-3/8" diameter hole into each one, then use some steel rod and turn it so it's a nice snug fit into the holes, then use that to center your parts, then I would definitely tig weld it as well as do some rosette welds for extra strength.

Very nice job and good imagination. Your welding that shaft so true is a testament to your skill.

Nothing like a little excitement from a fire - when the welder lights up the grease and oil on the floor. When I was 16 years old, that same thing happened in our auto shop at the high school. However, it was not extinguished so quickly and a couple of other fuel containers got lit up. By the time it was over, the school had been evacuated and most of us sat on a small hillside on the other side of the street and watched as the entire auto shop and part of the wood shop at the school burned down.

If you had a lathe and wanted to transplant the drive stub, the way to do it is to cut off both pieces, then drill and ream them for a dowel pin. You assemble both parts of the shaft wit ha dowel pin in the center for alignment. Ideally you'd weld it with TIG on a rotary axis (a fancy positioner isn't necessary, just rotate it smoothly around).

Love your work mate. Especially your attitude to fixing everything yourself, those vids where you diagnose a problem and then have a go at fixing it are very educational and will save a lot of people a lot of money. That camping video up to the plane crash sounds like an awesome idea.

The one thing I so enjoy aobut how you fix cheep bought items to working condition again is that you have the pride in knowing that you brought it back and after a bit of work and effort, the items are running and again functional again, where they would be just garbage and added crap in a land fill somewhere..Great Job Andrew!

What I really love about this Guy and what he can do. Is that he just kicked the crap out of the Corporate World and their Engineer's that like to feed off of the public by redesigning the product every year to gouge the wallets of the people who have to use a snow mobile for a living. He just proved the spirit of the people who never take no for an answer and that never give up to be robbed by corporate. He is a very valuable person to know and learn from. He is the reason America is a great country to live in. AND Boy does he know snowmobile's . WOW, what a great Job well done. I salute you SIR.

I think you are great Andrew, you always inspire me with your videos. You gave me enough inspiration to fix my broken utility pack sled, it got run over by a tractor last winter, and now I'm able to pack my ice auger and different things when I take my Yamaha BR 250 TF when ice fishing! Thank you and have a nice day, enjoy that great snowmobile!
