Don't forget to Flush and refill the chain case, I went in up in Quebec Canada, it was only up to the seat. Me and my buddy pulled it out got it running and took off. Two days later the chain case blew, it seems it sucked water through the breather hose and filled the case because of the vacuum in the case from being hot. TG for great DOO dealers in Quebec, This happened in the Mid 90's. A story from the old days before GPS.

Quite the operation! I simply called our local bush man Beaver Bob who first cut holes to locate the sled getting down on the ice with his coat over his head to view into the water, then cutting the large hole. When that was done he sent the sinker and myself to cut two or three good strong poles to bridge the hole while he grabbed the sled with a grapple. We then lifted the sled to the surface and using the poles to lever the sled placed two under it then simply dragged the sled onto the ice.. I had no way to drag the sled home and it started to freeze due to extreme cold. We did manage to clear water from the engine. I had my childhood toboggan which after quickly removing the engine and fuel tank I dragged home through the bush with a 250 citation to the warmth of my shop where I got the engine running and the tank cleaned. The next day by myself now dragged the carcass home and reinstalled engine etc. Best part was the sinker had paid me for the sled he borrowed (and didn’t bother to inform me of the sinking). I used said money to purchase the citation I used and needed to recover the sink 78 250 twin colt! I then went from free sled to two sleds for free.. sufficed to say the sinker wasn’t impressed but he did learn a valuable lesson. Your method although very professional and organized likely cost the owner quite a bit in food and libations back at the shop afterward! My first sled decades ago when I was still considered a cityit by Beaver Bob a man I would want to be with if stranded in the wild. Cheers!! Great Job. Satisfying and kinda fun.

I'm frm northwest Alaska, and fell thru twice in my years. first was with my cousin while we double rode on my machine. it was very scary.. thankfully we both managed to get out and we went to school the next day. nobody knew it was us, and became the scare story for the day. we both signed out early during lunch and decided to go out to where the incident happened. out of nowhere, roughly 30 people came out to offer a hand to retrieve my machine. slowly buy surely, after a while of chipping and hooking with a hook, we were able to hook the front right trail arm and man handled it up and out. the second was me going out to a pressure ridge to chip down a crossing. THANKFULLY I had a long ice chipper with me, I'm cautiously chipping towards the edge where the stake trail splits. figuring it was safe I let down my guard, and in I went. it happened so fast, but I was able to flop the chipper side ways. I felt my feet swing up from the current and I'm hanging on for my life. out of pure adrenaline I muscled up, fully geared, and soaken wet I was able to crawl out. the sad part of this one was I was by myself. nobody woulda known that I could have been gone. if I didn't have that ice chipper I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be here to tell this story. stay safe people. bring someone along if you know the conditions are bad. especially while traveling on the ice.

Great engineering and video. On one of my first sledding trips a fella struck up a conversation with me at lunch. He had sunk his Arctic Cat a couple of years before in about 8 feet of water. He broke the ice with his hands to get to shore-about 35 feet I think he said. He and a friend the next day rigged a hoist and recovered the sled. He owned a machine shop and welded up a rotisserie for the sled and rotated it 1/8th of a turn each day to drain. After checking fluids and fresh gas the sled fired and he still was riding it as of our conversation.

@@northwoodsdiscovery6962 Yes I did for sure. My Dad made it until 2004. passed at 86 y.o. He had traps to check out on an island. It had dropped to -40 and the lake had about 1 1/2 inches of ice. Too much for the boat. It was cracking a bit when he walked out on it, so he thought the weight distribution would help. It did, he made it all the way around the island and headed for home. When he hit the tracks he'd made on the way out the old sled dropped like a ton of bricks. He fought for about 3 hours to finally get back up onto the ice and roll to shore. I bought a sled for $200 a 1998 Grand Touring 583... A girl was selling it on Facebook... Funny part is she said the sled wouldn't start because of a bad ground or something, but the year before it started great... I then went to get the sled, looked through all the wires and everything... So then I drained the gas tank and the oil reservoir to start all over fresh... And as began siphoning the oil tank... It was coming out super milky... That was quite odd... I put compressed air into the gas and oil tank to remove everything. Put new oil and gas in there with new spark plugs and with 5 shots of primer and 2 pulls the thing started right away ! The I took a picture of me on the sled and put it on my Facebook, About 10 minutes later my cousin messages me saying I think you just bought the sled that was laying on the bottom of the river for 3 weeks... The girls boyfriend tried to cross the river when he was drunk on very thin ice and the snowmobile fell through and the guy got lucky and got back on to the shore... 4 old guys pulled it out of the river and called the Police... Since the sled was registered, the owner (the girl) had to pay a fine... She sold the sled for cheap cause she thought it was dead... I had that sked for 3 years without a hiccup ! I only did a top end cause it was low on compression ! You can see the sled in my KZbin page ! I also have a video 1998 583 Grand Touring Rebuild ! check it out !

The best for internal engine cleaning is virgin milk from iguanas from the southern part of the galapagos island, isla Isabela! It is the first milk of a first time iguana giving birth. Run the milk through the engine 3.2 times. Then a vintage single malt whisky, must be from Scotland and at least 12 years old, is run through the engine once! Results. Like a new engine! The only drawback is that the cost to get the milk is 2-3 times higher than the cost of a new engine. It also could be that I am involuntarily trying to prove that everyone who knows me is right when they claim in unison that I have an extremely bad sense of humor and would starve to death if I pursued a career as a stand-up comedian.
