I’m looking to get back into sledding and have a noob question here.... the last sleds I owned were a 1998 RMK and a 2003 Mountain Cat 900 and both had traditional carbs that needed to be jetted for temp and altitude. I had bought an aftermarket Holzmann setup for the cat that worked flawlessly for altitude compensation. My question is this; Do the new machines still need to be set up for mountain riding if the elevation is higher than at home on the prairies?

I used Holtzmann as well on my older sleds. No need as all have EFI. Only thing to do from flat land to mountains is clutching, just as you would have had to do with your older sleds. For Cat I'd get adjustable clutch weights, they are much easier to fine tune. Any aftermarket company will have them; BDX, Speedwerx, SLP, Bikeman etc.

Not a Direct Injection motor, its a semi direct injection.

It's direct injected at lower RPMs, at high RPM it is both direct and indirect injected.

@@nate390 its not direct injected, exhaust port is not totally closed so you lose some fuel. If this is a directed injected engine then so is Skidoos SDI's and Polaris CFI engines.

@@fnatomagan you are correct about the exhaust port, however in 2018/2019 the CTEC2 800 shot fuel directly in to the combustion chamber for fuel ignition. It also shot fuel in to the crankcase through a transfer port in the Piston to lubricate the crank. For 2020 they switched to transfer port injection like Polarises' CFI and Ski Doo's SDI. The 600 is still directly injected but because it lubricates the crank with a shot of fuel it is not as clean as Ski Doo's ETEC. I would make the argument that the 600 is both direct and semi direct injected (dual stage injection) so no it is not direct injected in the ETEC sense of the word.

Cat designed and built DSI motor, roller primary, dropped and rolled chaincase, larger drivers for better track angle and efficiency,,,,,, yeah, right- nothing mentionable. Duh
