I was today years old when I learned "fzn" does not stand for "frozen". "FZN" is short for "509". I am so sorry @509. lol.

Curious how your torch works in the extreme cold. In Alaska, it is 0 and below a lot and the torches I have just do not seem to work well.

Great questions. I haven’t done a severe cold test with mine yet. I try to not ride when temps dip below -10. But that’s why I carry three different ways to start a fire. Always great to carry waterproof matches and some fire sticks.

@@sledwyo @marcusroulet4068 Butane boils at 30.2F (-1°C). Keeping them warm helps a lot but as Jeff mentioned it shouldn't be your only form of fire. At low temperatures it won't boil off fast enough to create the required gas pressure. You'll usually notice they start out OK and then the flame weakens. Have you ever noticed how a small propane tank will frost up? Its absorbing heat from its surroundings in order to boil. The same things happens with butane but its less noticeable because the boiling point is 75 degrees higher than propane. My point is that even if its warmer than 30 degrees, when being used the liquid butane can quickly cool off to 30 degrees and stop boiling. Bigger torches like Jeff's do better in cold weather because they have more butane, more surface area and are usually metal. They cool down slower and absorb heat from the environment (your hand) better than plastic. They will work longer. Another example that people might relate to is cooking with a 1lb propane cylinder in cold weather vs a 20lb cylinder.

Oddly enough me too. I keep hearing a faint “Keenan” when I’m alone and all the lights are turned off in the shop. Kinda creepy

pretty thorough list here. all the basics. - jb weld + a torch is a saver if you put a rock or stick through the heat exchanger. one thing I used to carry was a collapsable stove to melt and boil snow for drinking water. that could hook up to 1/4lb refillable propane canisters - could also carry a torch head that hooked up to it or just use the stove as a torch and it took about the same footprint as a 1lb propane canister. an extra saw or saw blade isn't a bad one to carry as well.
