Lyrics
Remember the first time we got high
We felt like the rampart lion's roar
We were elastic and then we were healed
Healed in the blinking of an eye
And then when the dawn cracked over us
The day wouldn't hit us hard at all
We could ride the morning into night again
We knew the days were there to waste
But these days
That light hit so heavy
And those days
Feel like another life
This isn't like the first time anymore
And I've been chasing that too long
Digging for the lost memories
Of a youth written in fire
You've always said it's not too late for me
Well I sure am listening to you now
Believe in me so I can trust myself
'Cause there's a first time for that too
Remember the first time that we kissed - It felt like a planet forming
Though we were just novices at this - It felt like an ancient wisdom
There was lightning then and those songs were all proved true
No wonder I still think so much about you
But these days
My heart feels too heavy
And those days
Are someone else's life
This isn't like the first time anymore
And I've been chasing that too long
Digging for the lost memories
Of a youth written in fire
You've always said it's not too late for me
Well I sure am listening to you now
Believe in me so I can trust myself
'Cause there's a first time for that too

First listened to this album when I was drinking myself to death, I heard this song one morning in the car, hungover, emotional. It brought me to tears, I knew exactly what he was singing about and later found he had been through the same. I'm getting better now.

The entire album is absolutely brilliant, but this is the song that's haunting me and getting under my skin. I can't even put into words how incredible it is, and this video suits it so perfectly. Singing in a dark room, getting just a little brighter as time passes... it gives me chills. It feels like he's acknowledging the darkness, and the journey we go through as we grow and learn and move into the light. I cannot get enough of this song. I hope Snow Patrol knows how exceptional they are, and how much their fans appreciate them.

This is a track from Wildness, Snow Patrol's follow-up to 2011's Fallen Empires. The record was made with Garret "Jacknife" Lee - Snow Patrol's producer since 2003. Released on May 25, 2018, its delay was in part because the band's singer Gary Lightbody had a bout of writer's block. The breakthrough came when one day in the studio, Lightbody was trying to write a song and Lee put on Nick Cave's "Jesus Alone," an anguished prayer to a dead child from a grieving father. Lightbody told The Sun: "It set me into a trance and that's where A Youth Written In Fire came from. It was the song that allowed me to find my way into the album."

Definitely their best since Final Straw. Gawd, that album was a masterpiece in alt rock. Near flawless. This album reminds me of it. The sounds of a lot of the records brings me back to that. But this song right here is arguably the heavyweight of the album ( but that can be said about Empress, Wild Horses and Heal Me) I literally played this song a whopping 33 times and it never got old. I am not sure if I would have done the video for this song like that. But the video is still good

That third verse, man. Snow Patrol healed a huge hole in my heart years ago with the beautiful lyrics of The Garden Rules, but I always felt wrong that I needed healing - that third verse, and this song, somehow explains it to me. This song has a such a differnet flow as the others. But I like that very much and this could be my favourite song from the album.

I'm 24 but I feel like I'm 124, I feel like I'm not young and there's nothing else here for me anymore! Memories that I have from 5 years ago seems to be from another life! I can totally relate with snowpatrol's wildness album. By the way, snowpatrol's song is always perfect for me and it seems like they sing my life.
