It's not meant to have been a practical shelter from the climate change. The train (and its track) was built before the disaster as a pleasure cruiser using a perpetual engine he designed meant to be able to go through all climates (including the himalayas). Once the disaster happened he saw it as a way to survive with a cadre of elites that were shackled to his will but more people forced their way on board. As long as the train is in motion Wilford is god, as there is only the narrow corridor to him. If it was stopped and the engine power used to make a more practical shelter he'd no longer be 'god'. This can be seen in how he is worshiped. Let us go to a special comment from Mr. Wilford, the Divine Keeper of the Sacred Engine... Engine yo aei en ni! Wilford Ban zai! If you look at the art/ blueprint on its wiki it's really a 0-10-10-0 set up. There might be following bogies in front and behind the main driving axle but you look to be covered by the loco side skirts. And looking at its size with its wheel arrangement, the closest one to it would be the BigBoy 2-8-8-4. The Big boy is 26m long(without tender), 3.35 meters wide, and almost 5 meters high. The Snowpiecer is 82.9 meters long. 12.9 meters tall and 9.4 meters wide. Use a Steam loco tractive effort calculator (here:www.steamlocomotive.com/misc/tractiveEffort.php) I'll try and work out how much effort it might have, warning I'm no steam loco expert/maths person. and expect a lot of guesses I'll use a 4 cylinder simple as only due to maintenance issue and the big boy with its wheel arrangement also have 4(and I've got no clue if the compound would be better or not), cut off I'll leave default you can play around with it later. Same with factor of adhesion, only because 4 is meant to be idle for a steam loco. Boiler pressure will stay the same as well only because we know it's a PME of some sort and with no smoke stack we don't know if it's a closed cycle of heating water or just electric motors. (another reason is the blueprints look to have linkages between driving wheels which also throughs off if this is a closed cycle steam loco or not. as if is only electric why have linkages between the wheels) Using an image editor the height of the loco is 3 and a half times wheels high or thereabouts (please if you can get me a better measurement spent way too long trying to work it out) This gives the wheels a diameter of 3.6 meters. Using Big boy again its driving wheels are only 1.72 meters in size and were built for freight so was built more for pulling than speed. Flying Scotsman's driving wheels are 2.03 meters and Mallards the world holder for steam loco speed are the same. Using the calculator it's asking for the size in inches *sigh* input 141. Now on to Cylinders while using the Big boy again. Big boy is 3.1 times smaller in length 2.8 times smaller in width and 2.5 times smaller in height. I'll just use the width and length calculator as well I've got no clue what I'm meant to use. Big boy's cylinders are 603 mm in diameter and 813mm in height. put in the numbers and we get 1688.4 mm in diameter and 2520.3 mm in height. well, those are big I don't think the boiler pressure is going to be enough. carrying on. Got to change them back into inches, again gives us 66.47 in diameter and I'll guess 99.22 inches of stroke. we're not given the weight of the engine from snow piecer so the last is going to stay at the default of 70k. considering Big boy's axle load is 30.6k to 30.9k with a total weight of 193-198k kg I'll say it looks about right. Looking at the output... well Tractive effort is up there, ok Big boy's tractive effort is 135,375 lbf and the output of the calculator is... 1,585,629 lbf... Ummm well that's... a lot, let carry on. Weight on drivers 6,390,086. I've got no clue if that is in lb kg or tonnes. I don't even know where to look on the big boy's stats for its weight on drivers so that's just a number at the moment. The number of axles, 92, seems about right for what it's meant to carry and I don't think there is a rail or an axle that would be able to hold up the 6.3 million what every weight. with a max speed of 151 Kph or mph. well, the TV series says the train averages around 100kph so I'd say that looks about right. Going back to the tractive effort Big boy can in theory pull a 5.5-mile-long train over flat ground but routinely pulled 100 cars with a cleared max pull weight of 5,360 tons and with the calculated tractive effort of Snowpiecer being 11.7 times bigger. well, it could in theory pull a 64.35-mile-long train over flat ground and could be cleared to pull 62,712 tons. TL:DR A very very tentative yes it could pull it. But with so much thrown out the window, you might as well take a salt mine's worth of salt with it. Now time to go rest my poor acing brain and ponder why I spent an hour on this.

Thing is, it really makes no sense fornthese trains to have air horns, having an air compressor running is just a waste of energy, and brakes, usually hydraulic, woulndnt use an air compressor like air brakes on a truck. The fule requirements, food, water. I belive this train is saposedly representative of the lost age of steam in China. It seems to be disyopian overly exaggerated version of the orient express if it was running trough chinna durring the 18th, and early 17th century. Durring a Ice age. But if that was so not only would the people left behind destroy the tracks. But where does fule, lubercant etc come from.. the very people left behind.How does the train keep going eternally. Even nuclear energy has limits. No food. Water. How do the people survive? Sapended animation? Then the class warfare premis would be impossible. People asleep. If the fantasy train moved fast enough it is sapoed to time travel. What you have shown me is the class wars of the early 19th, and late 18th century steam ships. Saposedly on a train.
@HallimarRathlornStudios3 жыл бұрын
The biggest issue for the train is farming for food, the rest is fine. As far as we can see, things like oil and lubricants come from the livestock kept onboard the train. Fuel is debatable. Some believe it's fusion based on the fact that the train collect hydrogen from snow, but since Big Alice doesn't seem to operate like that, the idea of a perpetual motion engine isn't completely off the table. As far as the people left behind being able to destroy the tracks? Defintely not. For one, once the world froze over, pretty much everything is frozen in place in seconds since it become -119 C, which isn't the ideal temperature for trying to rip up industrial grade railroad tracks.

Cuz its not, its a EMU train and each car has its own motor, the engine just generates the electicity to run the motors
@The_M1A2Abrams4 жыл бұрын
Weirdly, it can run forever if its moving faster than 30 mph (aka, dead ahead speed). As long as the train is moving fast (average 50-60mph), the train can self sustain (Hence: 'Enternal Engine')
@MasterOfTruck4 жыл бұрын
@@The_M1A2Abrams it can run forever because its powered by a perpetual motion engine. they nickname it eternal engine because if the train stops they all die. in order for perpetual energy to work, you have to remain in motion.

I still don't understand how Big Alice's engine went from in front of the train to the back of the train in season 2
@HallimarRathlornStudios4 жыл бұрын
It was never in front.
@MasterOfTruck4 жыл бұрын
it was never in the front. big alice faces forward while the 40 supply cars are pushed in front of it. the car you see attach to snowpiercer is just the docking car used to attach both trains and move goods from BA to SP.

So does snow piercer use existing tracks or new tracks to go around the world?

It probably uses a mix of both.

if you look closely at the beginning snow piercer's tracks are nearly twice as wide as its so massive.

@@GreylineDigitalDesign ok so new tracks then
@GreylineDigitalDesign4 жыл бұрын
@@The_Irish_Fox Definitely the snow piercer has to run without maintenance for many years, and due to its size and nature, there can't be any possibility of a derailment, or else it's over for humanity.
@HallimarRathlornStudios4 жыл бұрын
The tracks have been confirmed to be 6 meters, however, using ones eyes, they're at least between 7.5 meters and 8 meters based on the width of a snowpiercer car.

the show is separate from the movie. some even theorizing that the snowpiercer from the movie and the snowpiercer from the show are actually 2 different trains operating in the same world at the same time. a bit more farfetched but still.
