So, Here's my reply to some common arguments against this video:- - Argument 1: Pay to win can't exist in single player game My Reply: Pay to win is just general term that I used to show greedy practices, yes almost every game dev nowdays do such practices which kind of normalised it but it still won't make it right. Locking stuff that should be part of base game behind some paywall isn't right. The basic meaning of pay to win is paying for something to get edge over any challenge that game offers whether thats other players in online games or difficult terrain in this case. - Argument 2: Game is too hard for me so its ok for me to have mastodon, etc from level 1 My Reply: Firstly the mods exist and they're free, Secondly if you want mastodon from start without doing anything what's the reason to even play the game, In that case you would get bored within few hours and would never touch this game again because there's no challenge left. Throughout gaming history, Every game has progression based reward system and that's how things should be. I am not entirely against such DLCs but I am against the fact that they're there from level 1 & you've to pay for them. If devs think their game is too hard or broken why not fix it for free, why sell the solution.

To the difficulty argument I say: The game isn't hard. The game is time consuming. People need to stop equating impatience to difficulty. If you want to cheat the games difficulty system then have at it, you paid for it, but stop using stupid excuses.

@@SD1ONE I do have the Mastodon but almost never uses it because yes it makes things too easy, and I really like challenge. I only use it from time to time for fun in super-vilain fashion, releasing the beast, dominate the hardest terrain with ease with a maniacal laughter, then I go back to normal. Keeping things challenging are indeed very important to keep the game entertaining. And I 100% agree on the lack of buffs for base game trucks or buffs by upgrades in DLCs, it's a pretty bd practice in my book.

Hear me out; you should never be restricted to highway tires to begin with. I don't mind the DLC given it's not competitive MP, that's when it becomes P2W imo. What I don't like is calling it a Season Pass and then still having DLC trucks that aren't included in it. A season pass should be everything you release in that time period
@SHAdow98V
@SHAdow98V 5 ай бұрын
Yeah i agree, idc if i pay to make my experience easier or harder everyone can just choose not to use those, i don't use the big heavy OP trucks even tho i have them, i use the normal trucks and yes i struggle but i have fun. I also don't mind packs like JAT which don't add new OP vehicles but help improve all vehicles including the weak ones i use. That being said a YEARLY pass is by definition you the user playing in advance for ALL the content in that year but these greedy pieces of shit devs literally scam ppl by lying to their faces about the yearly pass to then add tens of other vehicles as individual paid stuff and they ain't cheap either cuz some of that shit is rlly pricey. If i support the game by paying in advance for a yearly pass imma want all the content in that year, if it was called Seasonal pass then maybe i could've taken it as "ok is seasonal pass, i get these seasons and their content and everything else is extra" but it's goddamn yearly pass for gimme the damn year worth of DLC. Then again Saber has a long track record of being genuine greedy pieces of shit, and i mean EA/Activision levels of unimaginable greed and that is literally what killed several of their games including Dakar Rally and Expetrash.

I know how this feels. But now you can start a custom campaign where you lock away DLC trucks or make them only available after a certain level or that you have to buy them in the store, instead of just being handed them for free. This is what me and a couple of friends did. The game got a lot more interesting once people didn't have access to OP vehicles at lvl 1.

I understand where the opinions in this video come from, but then again I like that there is now more choice. (Yes, maybe some of these options should be extended to the old (original) trucks as well.) Some people like to be overly challenged (Amur & Kola Peninsula, Russia maps), but for me those maps lose their replay value after I pushed through them once to finish them. Now I can choose to use better trucks and those maps are not so stressful and I can just enjoy the game. If I wanted to, I could make it very challenging on myself or I can approach the game as a relaxing way to spend time. I have the choice to do what fits me.

While the opinion of wanting a new truck that isn't OP is valid, the problem is the majority of people who only have 1 save and buy the dlc as it comes out, has no reason to buy the new content, if that new content isn't as good as or better than their current items. Consider this. You're playing skyrim, and you have a decent bow and you're pretty much in the end game, but a vendor that was recently put into the game has a bow that's stronger. Are you not gonna buy the better bow? And now consider the same scenario, but the bow is equivalent to the early game bows, do you still want that bow?

I have to admit, that there had been moments when I was seriously thinking about buying a dlc. My biggest issue was with not getting all possible upgrades for base game trucks. And this definetly feels greedy, like the developers teased me to enjoy a game, then give me a truck that is not fully operational (I'm talking ab AWD and similar stuff). In the end I did not tend to buying anything and settled for mods, which are amazing and honestly bring me more joy because many of them are not overpowered like some of those heavy trucks from dlcs.
@SalemTheYeen
@SalemTheYeen 20 күн бұрын
See, the issue is looking at it like you *need* those upgrades, and this video does a disservice by not showing how often it makes little difference. It showed one clip of one truck going up a hill better because it was a single truck that had a better engine from a dlc, where that engine was also an upgrade for a dlc truck from that region. The incentive shouldn't be to buy a region because you want to upgrade one of your base game trucks, it should be to enjoy the region as a whole.

I don't like that we don't get free regions in updates. Not because i don't want to pay, but because i want to have, for example, easy region to start my game. Otherwise your game will take forever to finish and will be a pain. It's kinda boring

I've been playing Snowrunner since the first day of release, have several thousand hours in the game, and one thing is certain: if the Mastodon and the other powerful monsters that followed hadn't come out, I would have put Snowrunner away by now. I remember feeling burnt out and bored with the game after Ontario, and these powerful trucks revitalized my enjoyment of the game. I know some content producing veterans can't seem to understand this, but if I've driven a thousand hours with Azov and Voron and 500 hours with Fleetstar and Brigadier, then I actually don't want to drive the same stupid vehicles for a thousand hours again, at some point it will I get bored. I always found the 605 Zikz to be overrated, a great off-roader but in practice too inflexible for many jobs to be a real replacement for the old Azov's and Taygas. We finally got similarly powerful trucks that can be used for most jobs. So any veteran whose ultimate definition of fun is driving the Transtar through the snowfield in Amur should do that, but stop being the fun police because people who aren't you enjoy new toys.

@hanifloka130
@hanifloka130 5 ай бұрын
Problem is that the Mastodon is unlocked, at level ONE. So, any new player who just bought the game + all the DLCs can just immediately invalidate Michigan. Which is a shame because Michigan isn't all that hard of a map, and the base game trucks you get from here are more than perfectly capable of doing what the Mastodon could. International Fleetstar and Western Star 4964 in particular are versatile, capable off-road, VERY easy to get early game, and the upgrades are literally around the trucks. You'd have to be either lazy or not thorough enough in your scouting to not find these 2 trucks and their upgrades. Heck, the tutorial even LEADS you to where you FIND the Fleetstar. It's basically like using a washing machine just to wash a pair of socks, it's unnecessarily overkill. It doesn't take that long to manually wash one or two pairs of socks and it's not that hard to do. By immediately using the Mastodon, you are missing out on part of the experience, particularly exploration to find upgrades and trucks since this is a core part of the game. If you just want to deliver cargo, you might as well play Euro Truck Simulator 2 or American Truck Simulator.

I don't care what anyone says, I've had enough of PayDay 2, which becomes a literal half-baked paid demo without DLCs. And the "if you dislike it - don't buy it" argument doesn't work here. Never have I disagreed with one of your videos...until now. This talk about "win" or "cheat" within the community is foolish. This is a single campaign game in which the developers allow the players to play the way they want...you know.."freedom". In co-op game play; the players can decide the rules of engagement. Buying seasons for upgrades is a choice by the player and a business model for Saber. Freedom to choose needs NOT to go. So many games have turn to subscription services, monetization in every way in order to play a game for enjoyment. SnowRunner, while offering DLC and season passes, is playable without any add-ons. Many early players experienced and completed the OG maps without.

The biggest thing I don’t like about some of these DLCs are how they power creep base game trucks. What’s stopping someone from paying a couple of bucks for the mastodon and legit not using anything else. It goes through EVERYTHING in every map and rarely needs logistics to support it. If folks wanna pay money for it and use it I don’t care, but putting something like that behind a pay wall is rediculous. DLCs like JAT tires I can actually appreciate because it helps offset that power creep those base trucks receive to a point. It helps early game scouts, semis, tractors. And it sucks that stuff like the Oshkosh HEMMET (Derry Special as known in game) is locked behind a DLC. How awesome would it have been to have a mission locked behind that where it was difficult to unlock but rewarding to get a nice beefy military support truck? It just feels like a cheap way to keep the game going. Don’t get me wrong I love the DLC maps and can appreciate that they’re still adding content to this game, but locking everything behind a paywall is I fact rediculous. The game isn’t fun when all you use is really good super trucks that rarely need logistics and support. Now you can “easily not use them” as some people say, but when you pay for those DLCs and maps you’re gonna use the trucks don’t bullshit yourself. Again I appreciate the content but it’s just a shitty way to continue to add content to the game. Especially when you lock really solid upgrades and vechiles behind very difficult maps and missions in a DLC map, when all you have to unlock said stuff is the base game trucks. Like the AWD upgrade for the Westernstar 6900TS, the AWD should not be found in Siberia tucked away in imandra when it’s an American truck and is arguably unplayable without said upgrade. Same thing for the Oshkosh M1070 (Derry longhorn 4520). The top engine for it, the new DLC engine in Maine is NEEDED for that truck. (Gives it an A- PTW unloaded) It severely solves the power creep problem this truck faces with the base game top engine (B+ PTW unloaded). I love that truck. It’s my main tractor/low saddle hauler, but the low PTW with the base game engine made me use it limited amount’s in the base game. Locking all the good trucks and upgrades behind a paywall isn’t how you keep a game alive. What are you supposed to do after you bought it all? I’m not saying to put all the new upgrades or trucks only in the base game maps, but this whole Pay to win thing is just not needed especially when it comes to upgrades for BASEGAME trucks added after the fact. I will continue to play this game as I love it but as much as I’d love year 3 and 4 maps and trucks, everything is a super truck, and just kind of ruins the game when they need little to no support or logistics and just go through EVERYTHING! Fix your shit saber!

I was playing on a modded map a few months ago with modded vehicles, and I have no idea what happened but the subscribed mod screen doesn't load for me and, the save load screen shows that map has a mod error. Last I checked this problem still persists. Alongside this, my PS4 has a storage capacity limit, so the number of mods can be quite limited, also their compatability will not always be in your favor. Dlc vehickes on the other hand are built into the game and offer variety while at the same time being fairly stable with the game, so kind of a win win rather than a win/potential lose

I use the "op" trucks when i need to move alot of cargo and just road train them. Did it with the 963 and femm alot in North Carolina. In cases like that they are needed. I also didn't finish alot of the logging missions in phase 4 until the 963 was added, because it could get though the ice and snow and not get stuck and actually had the addons I wanted for logging. So it was a win win. I really dont think most people use these trucks just to speed though stuff as much as y'all think they do. Some people just use them when they are possibly needed and when its time to use them for that its great. You'd do the same in real life as well.

I didn't knew all of this and thankfully I finished the game before starting going for the DLCs and even then I'll goinf to get the one by one. Then for me it's like "you finished this game the hard way now it's time to just have a good time" I constantly use every single truck in the game because every truck have a purpose for me, so instead of having a bad time getting anywhere in Kola with my old Scouts I get them the new tires and voila! I can enjoy them again! Idk... Probably it's just me 😂

I guess part of it is always going to come down to self-restraint and work ethic. *Gets on high horse* I bought the year one season pass when I first bought the game, so I had some stuff in advance. But I didn't use it. I completed the entire base game and got to max level before using or visiting any DLC elements. I had some early handouts, but I still was willing to level up and unlock the vanilla stuff first (the UOD2 tires are STILL worth unlocking). The second thing with the way I play is that I won't buy or use more than one of the same truck unless it's given to me (like the CK 1500). Sure, it would make the game a whole lot easier if I just bought a whole fleet of Mastadons and big Azovs, but where's the fun in that? You're taking the easy way out. So by only having one of any given truck, the OP DLC trucks complement the base fleet, not replace it (since you can't enjoyably beat the game using only a single Mastadon). I also don't use any mods, but that's a different issue.

I totally agree with everything said in the video. Honestly, I'm tired of hearing "it's a single player non-competitive game" every time I mention p2w. By the definition of the said term in the Cambridge Dictionary: "Pay-to-win - The practice of paying to get weapons, abilities, etc. that give you an advantage over players who do not spend money". Nobody said you have to directly compete with the said players. If you pay money to complete the game faster/easier than they do complete it in their single playthrough, it's still pay to win. You win time. And before anyone says anything - yes, cheating and pay to win can exist in a single player game, even if it only affects your playing experience and no one else's. They say it's non-competitive, but every game is competitive, unless it's a free building open world with no dangers. You compete against bots (AI) or some challenges (in this case, difficult driving conditions), and if you can beat them faster/easier thanks to cheats or p2w, that makes you bad as a player and gonna upset the players who like to play fair. I'm one of them. Thanks SD1ONE for covering this topic! I posted your video on Reddit and so far get only negative responses lol... but at least I know that one of the best SnowRunner youtubers is on my side!

I see this differently. What today feels like pay-to-win, when the game was released, we had questions like, why does this truck not have the points and things you showed in this video, since the maps in the beginning were and still are way more difficult than today? The devs started to listen to the community very late, just after second consecutive year when SnowRunner declined in popularity and revenue in comparison to when it was launched. Now, the unbalanced issue in SnowRunner is becoming more noticeable, trcuks buffed and better along with maps way more easy. The "Pay-to-Win" is always a desperate strategy to make any game going down to a comeback, but the problem IMO was always an Unbalaced game and devs not listening the community in the beginning.

Lets be honest, if youre playing in hardcore like i am, youll think quickly about mastodont, and if youre using it, its probably the only truck youll use until its on its side or run out of money beacose of its thirst. Hardcore mod eliminates many of the problems youve mentioned. What i agree on is the JAT tires, but on the other hand, for people who dont like starting again is nice option how to get along with the start. The things i hatet the most are: 1, balance: take brigadier for example, its full potential is unlocked at level 14 and costs a lot (if in hardcore). At level 1č it just feels like there are better vehicles to drive... number 2: crane + bed + trailer - there so many trucks who could easyly attach a trailer, the only thing holding them back is ONE line in its code. (when I was playing on pc ive changed that line and it made the game so much more enjoyable ! ) And for little bonus: ive moved the crane and bed on military azov, and if you remove second pait of mudgards nothing collides and it flushes together nicely... Just if devs took those 15mins in which i tested what numbers move what where to make the truck better, or just edit this one line...

It's kind of a double-edged sword to be honest. On the one hand - if you are an experienced player, that would mean that by the end of each season you already have the top of the line truck. So introducing something else, even if it is a super truck, may be appealing for you, because you already know your ropes. Same as with JAT tyres. But for new players, it is indeed a ticket to the easy trip. But yet again, from the perspective of new player, would you rather try vanilla game with all its kinks on hard mode and drop it, or get a free pass to grind through 1st season to like it enough to buy forthcoming seasons?!

She's more of a casual gamer and I'd say we wouldn't have played that long without those easier options like the JAT tires and the DLC trucks. I had to make a New Game+ save, so i could remove all the DLC trucks from my garage without getting the money from selling them. Added the 50% price of selling trucks and trailers and paying for fuel at gas stations, and the game feels much more fun that way. I still have free recoveries and can change time freely, as i'm still very new to the game and i'm still learning all the mechanics and strats. What i do like about the DLC's are the tires, I don't know who in their right mind thought that you should go into muddy and ruined terrain without suitable tires. Popped some off-road tires on my fleetstar and singlehandedly finished black lake and half of smithvill dam with is solo. In my honest opinion, without the DLC tires, leveling with highway tires would be more of an annoyance than a challenge. If they lowered the level requirement for all-terrain and off-road tires, or increased the price of DLC tires in the game shop it would make it a more balanced in the long run.

Two fronts to this. Firstly, the neglect of base game content. For that, you're right on the money. If they want to improve vehicle options, they should be universal, not restricted to the new content because they want you to buy it. Its not right & needs to be addressed before the game is inevitably concluded. Secondly is the pay 2 win content, which frankly, doesn't bother me. Players just need to have temperance. Its not the mastodon's fault that its so great, its the player's for using it in all situations. For picking the easiest path, or meta. Players with an inkling of self-restraint will ignore such vehicles until facing the hardest of maps & challenges, opting to use their favourite trucks, opposed to the best, in all other situations. The "why should I use anything else" argument can only come from one who has no love for the trucks in this game, just their utility in completing objectives. Its the sort of player who boils games down to a science instead of simply enjoying the experience. And no matter what, that sort of player is going to be bored & miserable no matter what they play. At that point, I can only recommend a different hobby. Frankly, with Snowrunner being a game so geared toward adults, I'd expect its particular playerbase to be more mature than this. To have figured out by now that the easy path garners the most dull experiences in life. Chasing or relying on meta, makes you boring as a person. This goes for both solo games, and competitive ones to boot. No shame if the specific meta just happens to also be your favourite choice, but there's a stark difference between that & what I'm getting at.

I kind of agree with your take, I get it that players who use them as tool would always use them as tool but we can't give clean chit to devs here...the implementation of those DLC is also something that's not done right...I know some games which locks DLC content unless you reach a certain level which lets you to get familier with how game works....What SR devs did is make that mastodon avaialble at level-1 thus most people would use it over other trucks....This effect snowballed to new season pass DLC trucks as well...the new trucks we're getting are all super trucks because they've to match up with mastodon....there's no 6x6 released for years now as season pass truck.

I personaly really agree with this video, after around 3000 hours. It is cool to sometimes use the powerful trucks. But that these can have nearly any addon in the game wile the OG heavy trucks are so crippeld. P16 doesn’t even have studded tires. Atleast give the base game some love too, when we skyrocket the dlc trucks in that way. Most of the OG trucks don‘t have great addons and the ones having them often can‘t handle them at all. But do not put the upgrades in the DLC regions, that’s just disgusting.

All this boils down is that you don't like the way other people play their games. That's just silly and a waste of time and energy. Believe it or not, but making video games, is a business. Their job is to make games that make money. Calling a dev greedy for charging money for a product they spent time, energy and resources to produce, especially when you're not required to buy it for ANY REASON, makes no sense at all. If you want your gameplay experience to be hard and a grind, then play it that way, they've given you the option. As soon as I got a mod that gave me unlimited money I haven't messed with the in-game economy since. Getting stuck in mud with shitty tires is not fun for me. I never enjoyed the games progression from terrible trucks to good ones. I have over 1,700 hours in this game and I'm still playing it that way. The dev has given us multiple options on how to tailor the gameplay experience to how we like it, and you're upset? If you don't like the way developers do things then stop supporting them. Don't buy their games and don't buy their DLC's. Game devs will not stop making paid DLC's if people keep buying them. They know it's a proven and reliable revenue stream. Stop complaining about OPTIONAL paid DLC's. Stop calling devs greedy when they are running a business. Stop demanding additional content for free, especially when every DLC the dev has released has been VERY reasonably priced. If you want paid DLC's to go away, STOP BUYING THEM.

You can’t make that argument when you need these DLC vehicles and upgrades to play these DLC maps. What are you supposed to do after you complete everything in the base game? Restart and “don’t pay for it do you don’t want it?” Like you claim. The whole point of the DLC is to keep the game fun and fresh, but adding in super tricks to said DLC that power creep older base game stuff is litterally the DEFINITION OF PAY TO WIN. You’re PAYING MONEY for superior in game items. Don’t bullshit yourself after you unlocked trucks like the Zikz 605R or the International Paystar 5600ts you don’t really use anything else. Cause everything else is power creeped by these superior PAYED DLC vehicles. It’s such a bullshit argument “just don’t pay for it or buy it if you don’t like it” cause the game gets boring after you make it late game in Taymyr. I think the dlc is kind of needed and again keeps things fresh and new, but the way that saber has done it, putting all the valuable wanted super trucks and upgrades for veteran trucks behind a paywall just isn’t the right way to go. I shouldn’t have to pay for a dlc map for an upgrade to a base game vehicle that helps balance out its power creep. That is the DEFINITION of PAY TO WIN 🤦🏻‍♂️

@@YourLocalR3NecK You can make all the assumptions you want about how I play the game but you're just plain wrong. I don't just get the best trucks and then use nothing else. Like you said, It's boring. I have the option of making the game more challenging and fun. You're seriously going to cry about being "forced" to use the good trucks? Those trucks are absolutely not required to play any map. "They made overpowered trucks and I can't stop using them!" In a competitive multiplayer environment I can understand that mentality. But in single player? You choosing to use the same trucks for the whole game and thus making the game boring is no one's problem but yours. What you're doing is like changing a game's difficulty setting to easy (which is entirely your choice) and then complaining about the game being too easy and thus boring. What a joke. I strongly suggest you change the way you play your games, you'll enjoy it a lot more. And you're fooling yourself if you think the DLC maps are getting harder, if anything they've gotten easier. The Yukon was the most punishing difficult map they've made and nothing since then has been anywhere near as hard. You nerds can cry and moan all you want about "pay to win" DLC's but if you keep buying them they will NEVER STOP MAKING THEM. If you don't like the way a company does business then you have to stop encouraging the behavior you don't like. "Another paid DLC? How dare they!" *pays for every DLC they've ever made*. Why would they stop when the cash keeps flowing in? Like I said IT'S A BUSINESS. A "For Profit" business. They keep making them and you keep buying them, for what reason on earth would they stop? Not to mention the fact that every DLC they've ever made has been very reasonably priced. You're seriously going to get your panties in a twist because you have to pay $4.00-$7.00 dollars every 3 months for content? You do understand the content they make is made by people and those people have to be paid a wage? You expect a dev to support a game and continue to make content 6 years after it came out and do all that for free? That's some delusional spoiled brat mentality right there. Not the way you set some parameters insanely hard. Overheating engine, broken kardan and springs dul to overloading. Broken or torn chassis. I hate breaking suspension and pneu on little bump or a stick or pile od leaves. @@bazzle_brush

Singleplayer games can be pay-to-win or pay-to-progress. Some people are arguing that you can "choose your difficulty", and that may be true in snowrunner. But the problem is that it provides an incentive to screw up the balance and make things more difficult artificially. If you've ever played war thunder or any singleplayer PvE game you'll know what I'm talking about.
@Don_Mag
@Don_Mag 5 ай бұрын
In general, I have the impression that no one thinks about the game's balance. In addition to the regions being too easy, there are also too many trailers, and definitely too much fuel. Hard mode should be the standard mode. And Hard Mode should be really more difficult when it comes to finances. Maybe hard mode should have different stats like tires or surfaces? So that it would actually be harder.

You make valid points, don't get me wrong, but a lot of this stuff has made the game better. Like many others have said, the game is not about competition with other players, it's about driving through mud and having fun. The only bad trucks in the games are one's you don't enjoy driving. Not to mention, I don't know of anybody who purchased the base game without some kind of DLC. Both the seasons and trucks go on sale pretty regularly, which does help those who wish to progress and let's not pretend they are $60 DLCs a piece either. At least it isn't like Destiny 2 where DLCs can cost upwards of 100 US Dollars. Now that is an outrage. And at least it isn't World of Warcraft where Blizzard releases a 90 US Dollar mount that breaks the game.
@SD1ONE
@SD1ONE 3 ай бұрын
Thing is, if most people think these trucks made game better that means game was broken from start then why don't provide such trucks for free why sell the solution.
@Mangled_Spirit
@Mangled_Spirit 3 ай бұрын
@SD1ONE First off, i do think the game was, maybe not broken, but definitely needed some improvements, especially on harder maps. Paid DLC has significantly helped with that problem because I wouldn't even attempt a map such as Amur without better upgrades or mods. Which brings me to my second point, mods. For players searching for a free solution to harder maps, mods are a great alternative to paid DLC. The devs know this and that's why it's an option. Thirdly, you have to look at this from a business perspective aswell. Businesses are in business to make money and Snowrunner is more of a niche game that only certain people enjoy playing. Once again, this isn't Call of Duty or World of Warcraft that have millions of players monthly. This is a much smaller developer that is lucky to have 10, 000 to 20,000 players a month. I don't know the exact number on that, but my point is there is a huge difference. In conclusion, I'm ok with paying for some DLC trucks that make the game easier. If you aren't, that's fine, that's why mods are available and free to download. The way I look at it is, I'm going to want more in game regions to explore anyway, and I'd rather have more upgrades to find aswell versus having completely bare maps that don't have upgrades.

@@Mangled_Spirit Firstly, We're consumer, we should'nt think about "Business prospective" of million dollar organisations. We should think about the value we're getting as consumer....BTW SR devs Saber are AAA studio not some small indi devs.They own huge game franchises and SR is also not a niche game. Mudrunner was a niche game and despite that it never had such Pay to Win DLCs....Such greedy practices exist because people are ok with it.

I bought the base game when it first came out. I was excited for new trucks and upgrades when year 1 DLC released. By the time year 2released I had finally purchased year one and got some of the sick new trucks and upgrades (AWD for 6900TS and Ford F-750 and its upgrades) but I didn’t like how that stuff was locked behind a paywall and an extremely difficult map for many upgrades for BASE GAME VEHICLES. That SHOULD NOT be a thing. If you’re gonna update a base game vehicle, the upgrade needs to be available in a base game map. The Active Suspension for the Azov 73210 for example, should NOT be be locked behind Amur when you can get the truck and all of its other upgrades for free and that suspension is arguably needed to make the truck enjoyable is locked behind a very difficult payed DLC map. The game was fun when it came out. You’d play with your friends and help each other progress through the mud and muck of Russia and Alaska. But once the op super truck trend started the game kind of just got boring. I still love it and play it all the time, I just find it to much of a grind and easy to get burnt out trying to unlock all these upgrades for the base game trucks when I start a new play through and have to get stuff that’s even capable of surviving maps like Amur or Imandra. It’s simply a shitty way to do things. The game ISNT FUN or ENJOYABLE without these upgrades in many cases as you’re getting stuck and unable to survive later maps without these upgrades or vehicles.

I agree with some of your points. But with that said, it has not ruined the game for me. I started to play this year. I do use a new game+ (with no DLC trucks for free and pay to recover). Aquiring trucks feels kind of organic when you have to buy them, even if they are overpowered. One issue you touched on, is that DLC trucks get roof racks. I feel like that should be included on the vanilla trucks as well. That would make it easier to use them more compared to the DLC trucks, as that is what I see as the strongest plus with the DLC trucks. But having to pay for DLC to upgrade vanilla trucks is a iffy move.

Kinda bugs me too that newer DLC vehicles are also superior to older DLC vehicles. Like when I was early on into the game, I bought the Western Star 49X which is just above average, not a superior force like some of the other standalone DLC vehicles. I bought the game when it first came out, so there was no DLC. Starting now is definitely a difference experience.

Not sure I agree with this take. If you want the challenge in the game, then... don't buy the DLCs? It's not like it's a PVP game where one player's faster progress affects another. That's what I like about Snowrunner. You can make it as difficult or easy as you want because they set up the game so you can play it the way you want. If you're really worried about other players having it easier then you should be advocating for mods to be banned as well, because half of those give you free access to super trucks that are superior to every official truck.

I do not agree to be honest, I am playing through the base game right now and I will buy DLC to continue playing only *after* I completed the base game. The DLC are basically later levels in the game, from what I have heard the regions can be quite a bit harder than the base game. Doesn't it make sense to get better and better trucks as you progress further into the game? I mean, trucks found in Taymyr also make trucks you find in Michigan obsolete, so this happens in the base game too. It is one of the reasons that makes it exciting to explore new regions. I do not see why you would buy the DLCs before you actually played the base game, the only reason would be to get a steam discount. I like to experience the base game as it was intended chronologically with base game trucks and like it a lot. You can cheese OP trucks in Michigan too with only the base game, but you only screw your own experience by doing that. I do agree on the Derry Longhorn engine upgrade though, that thing should've 100% been free.

The simple answer here is if you don’t like it for whatever reasons don’t buy it. I enjoy my fleet. This is my favorite game and I’m glad for new content that keeps it fresh. Not saying every dlc region was a hit, but I do look forward to new maps. The replay ability for base maps is very good, but not endless.

Mostly agree. Either on purpose or by mistake, they had put base game truck upgrades to the DLCs, and newer trucks tend to be stronger. On the other hand, in newer DLCs (especially 1st year), the maps were many times harder than base game regions, so it makes sense they add stronger trucks. But not all can be shamed- yes, non-lincensed trucks are free to have any parameters to their liking, where as the Tatra 813 you had there is that strong IRL, so it makes sense why it is many times stronger than the Azov. And with the tires, I agree too, however, I think its a fault of the level system, not the dlcs. You see, I had never understood the pointless levels in SR and the progression. Like, why bother locking tires for higher levels? All it does is more pain for newbies. Ofcourse, I agree that you should find and work up to stronger trucks, but to lock mud tires? In fact, I think its good that the JAT tires are avaible from start, but shouldnt be dlc, thats true. And with the dlc trucks, I dunno. Its true that they maybe shouldnt be avaible right aweaym but how do you do it then? Anyway, good video ;) ...

I'm not sure how there is "pay to win" in a primarily single player game. if this was an always MP experience I'd understand that someone having a very powerful DLC truck could be a bit annoying but you can buy as much or as little DLC as you want and either enjoy the game for what it is vanilla or expand your game with all of the dlcs, entirely up to you, if you want a challenge by using small rwd trucks then by all means, avoid the big 6x6 trucks!! it's a very free game by design

This is funny :) You don´t need any DLCs to complete the game. So you don´t need to pay to win. I have all season passes and I am using all trucks because that is the fun. If you want to make things faster, you can just download mods for free. But you will be probably bored sooner or later.... I am not sure you understand how to play this game. Have you completed any season?

I wouldn't have an issue with it if all the new upgrades for older trucks were given unlocked by rank, and excluding scouts (cause lets face facts, scouts in this game are junk period), JATs should've been locked behind rank with normal tires. With standalone DLC trucks, i do think they should be locked rank according to their capabilities; but the new trucks should be locked behind a fair bit of work though. If anyone wants to jump ahead and run easy trucks, or unlock whatever at level 1, there's NG+. Personally, that's the only mode i run cause then i can whatever theme i choose to and make the tiny difficulty of this game harder as i want. I wouldn't say pay 2 win cause this isn't a competition. The game's only real difficulty is just slogging through mud trying to find a winch point. After a few seasons, money is no object. And not tipping is just a skill issue.

Two word - hard mode. Some of stuff that you mention, are eliminated in hard mode. You don't receive truck after purchase dlc, you still need need to buy it. Other stuff, I kinda agree, and not. I like new regions, and I know someone need to make them, and this cost. You can easily finish base maps with base truck, and it's challenging, yes, but this game is about that. For me this game without new maps will be dead after 200h, no more. But I've 400+. I love my mastodon, and it was painful to save 200k on hard mode, but when I got it, I use it less than on normal mode, why? Fuel consumption, and full cost money, a looot of money with mastodon. What I wan't to say, pack like JAT are to much, new regions are fine for me. They introduce seasoning for this game from the beginning, and for me this fair enough.
@DatWut
@DatWut 5 ай бұрын
Why exactly is Pay 2 Win in a singleplayer/cooperative game such an issue though? If it were online mutliplayer against other players I could totally understand this being a problem, but in a game like SnowRunner, which you play WITH others, I don't. If you buy a DLC and it's Pay2Win, all you do is take away a bit of the challenge and thusly potentially some of the game's fun being offered. However, if you like going the easy path without having anyone else "suffer" from it, this is perfectly fine. Obviously I am only referring to things like the JAT pack or standalone DLC trucks here. Some of the upgrades, especially the impactful ones, being behind paid DLCs is an issue though.
