I am definitely enjoying the Kodiak on my second play-through. I basically decided I'm not going to use any International trucks this time around since I used them heavily the first time. The Kodiak is a hidden gem for sure!

well that would certainly make the early game interesting. I just started over last week and one of the first things I did when I got to the garage was buy the Paystar. Don't know what I would do early game without that truck. It coming with all terrain tires that early in the game is a huge deal. I guess that means you pretty much would have to start out using the GMC.....maybe it is better now, but I remember when Snowrunner first launched it was just a useless paperweight for doing any actual work

@@ram89572 the GMC is fine, the trick to early gameplay is to focus on roadblocks and easy contracts that keep you on the paved roads until you level up. If you try to do everything in Black River before moving to Smithville you’re going to struggle without A/T tires.

There are definitely times when 4x4 can be better than 6x6, such as in the turning radius test that you showed. Mechanically aswell, a 6x6 needs to send the same amount of power to more axles, so each axle gets a comparatively smaller percentage of power compared to the axles of a 4x4, and this is very important when climbing. When hitting an incline with a 4x4, all of your power can always be used and you're not left with 30-50% of it being leeched away by the middle axle of a 6x6 that is stuck in the air. The Derry 4520 is a good example of having too many axles, as soon as it hits a gradient and 1 or 2 axles leave the ground, it's powerless and gets stuck where no other trucks would.

The Kodiak with no bed is actually sick for a heavy duty type scout. Also can be used to pull out your larger off road trucks better than any scout

The kodiak is the book that gets judged by its cover. I was really impressed by what upgrading it did, the only upgrade I need for it is the gearbox, have yet to try fleetstar but will for sure give it a go!

I tell you I used the kodiak to pull the cat 745 out of the alaska snow map to its garage without trouble....and I was happily surprised. I am using it now as a crane truck.

I just got the kodiak, I just feel by looks so far when fully customised(mine is just normal) its close to Optimus prime. I wish the game could let us to change the outfits of the driver and appearances or customise the paints of the trucks instead of whatever is there, and make the frame a different colour instead of the usual black. Very addictive game.

I try to go for variety in my gameplay. I try to vary the trucks, even extensively using the Transtar 4070A. But the Kodiak is... unfortunate. I'm sure it's a good truck, but I feel like the game itself doesn't really let its terrain work in the Kodiak's favor. Not to mention that so much hauling just feels too heavy for it. And with its single rear axle, I've had a lot of digging in in terrain when pulling trailers. I feel like Wookie92 said it best: "Overall, the [truck] is a medium-duty truck, capable of medium-duty things, in a world filled with nothing but heavy-duty or light-duty tasks. It's a great truck, but it's missing its niche in SnowRunner."

Plus everything it does well the ZiKS 5368 does better. So the one niche it could have with being a medium-duty truck gets stolen from it by a truck that is unlocked from level 1, has way better thrust to weight ratio, better suspension, bigger tires including the russian balloon mudtires, shorter length which for a medium-duty truck is valuable, and more addons too.

The only truck I had that could get past the rocks in Smithville Dam to rescue the fixer upper was the Kodiak. Neither the Fleetstar or Paystar could make the turn without the right front wheel climbing the rock on the right tipping the trucks over. The Kodiak barely made it. Hooray Kodiak. Think I'm going to have this truck for a long time. Perfect addition to my scouting fleet.

The best way to get that done is to climb the rock instead of driving around it, then park and use the winch on the white western star until it gets over the rocks too. It's easily done with a big stable truck like the Kolob or Azov that you can buy from level 1 or the pacific P16 you can get very early on too.

I think Kodiak is the best looking "Heavy Duty" truck in the game, but I find the single rear axle makes the rear end bounce around more than I like when driving.

On all my playthroughs i use the kodiak alot. The key is during the tutorial at the start of the game go get the AWD upgrade , as long as your in the tutorial all maps and passageways are unlocked.

The fleetstar is an incredible workhorse for the majority of the game early on. The Kodiak is a glorified scout but it certainly doesn’t have the stability of the fleetstar. Not to mention you can crane+flat bed and tow a trailer with the Fleet. You can’t do the same with even the Royal

I decided to use a Kodiak for a long and very demanding load, as a torture test of its medium-duty platform. It tipped over four times, but it’s doing the work - with no repairs, and it’s rather thrifty. It really does come alive with upgrades. The Fleetstar is very versatile, a better straight truck than tractor I think because of the long frame. And a little undersized for the large crane interestingly enough.

I was worried the Kodiak would be way too unstable, because it seemed really bouncy with the stock suspension. But ironically, raising it seems to have smoothed it out and made it more steady on its feet. I’ve been using it a lot lately, and it handles just about everything I’ve thrown at it. Maybe it has to work a little harder than other similar trucks like fleetstar or WWS, but it gets the job done, and also double serves as a big scout with a cargo bed.

I like the truck but gameplay wise it is useless anyway because its front drive lies on the 3rd map in Alaska and if you play 'fair' without youtube guides you will (probably) receive the 4x4 exactly at the point when there is nothing to do with it. I'd like to know what was the developer's idea for keeping a good truck (and it's not JUST a truck as they even have special stars-and-stripes wrap for it) in stock form till the end of USA locations. For example White Western Star has all it needs pretty much on the same map, so it's useful immediately.

Exactly, and that's rather a key point. I'm playing 'fair' as I want to enjoy the discoveries. The Fleetstar was the second truck I found and the Kodiak the third. Every time I tried using the Kodiak it let me down by getting stuck. I found a second highway truck (forget the name) in the second map and sold it, the GMC and the Kodiak, because they're all useless at this point in the game. The GMC was potentially useful as a second truck for moving stuff around only on roads, but there are enough deep mud spots even on the better roads that it was still getting stuck.

So in my playthrough I played "fair." But I really enjoy scouting more than anything else, so I did it as much as I could as early as I could. So I got the 4x4 for the Kodiak before ever doing even 5 missions probably. That's how I figured out how awesome the Kodiak is.

The problem with the Fleetstar and the Kodiak is that they are heavily overshadowed by the other options available early game. Most people I know went with the Paystar. I went White Western Star. And then there's those that went to Russia and grabbed themselves a Tayga.

From the little experimentation I've done, it seems different trucks react differently to dumping the clutch. So I decided to just floor it at idle while in Auto just to keep it consistent.

Thanks for the idea, I'll try this on tighter routes. The only problem I had with it that it was a bit tippy. If you still play and have the DLC, you should do a similar comparison on the Brigadier and this one, would be interesting to see that :)

I think a better comparison is between the Kodiak c70 and the ZiKS 5368, since they're both smaller 4x4 trucks. But in a comparison between them, the ZiKS wins. It has better thrust to weight ratio, a higher suspension, bigger tires, access to mudtires including the balloon tires, more addon variety and access to small sideboard + crane + trailer, turning it into a baby paystar 5600TS. All that in exchange for being slightly less fuel efficient than the kodiak and a bit shorter, which can sometimes cause issues with stability.

The problem with both of them is that they are both terrible for hauling semi-trailers. They have so much frame length behind the fifth wheel that if the truck is cresting a hill, you can’t turn until you’re almost level with the trailer again because the frame overhang of the truck gets stuck on the underside of the trailer.

I love both of these and I use both in my Hardmode playthrough, but for different reasons. At this very moment, my Kodiak has Diff lock, NO AWD, Alterrain tires I think? To be fair for the lack of AWD, it doesnt stop for much. I tend to go with a semi-trailer for the Kodiak which it seems to be able to pull (loaded) even through mud, (again, no AWD), sometimes I use winch to assist, but much less than I'd think needed. Also Its fairly fuel efficient, which is important in Hardmode. The Fleetstar have been very capable right from the start, and I use it as a offroad truck with bed + crane to lift cargo and get it into harder to reach places.

Love the Kodak but haven't gotten all the upgrades yet my only complaint is the placement of its rear axle not the tires. I cant remember how many times it crawled over something just to get cot on its back axle especially in muddy or swampy areas that other trucks would have no problem with.and on a cashion the back of the frame would catch as well. That said I love the Kodak and it's been a work horse along side my fleet star since the beginning

I found the FleetStar to be cumbersome on-road; it sways back and forth at speed. Yeah, I know I need to 'get gud', and I did, but when I found the Western Star, it was so much easier on-road. Now I wonder what the kodiak would be like? :)

Before the F750 came out I used the Kodak for Scouting and it done a great job in the past. And if there are ppl with no DLC playing SR use this trucks. But to say for my taste I prefer the GMC more than the Fleetstar cuz it got a lil more power and options to fit it out.

The gmc 9500 and kodiak are great when upgraded. I am playing through on hard mode with the gmc using a load crane and low saddle. I have kept The fleet star despite it is noticeably less capable than the gmc - but it makes such a good backup vehicle. I sold the ck1500 pretty quick and started using the kodiak for 2 slot freight and scouting, perfect for those roles.

The Paystar is amazing at the beginning of the game. It is big, decently powerful, and comes with a set of all terrain tires from the get go which helps a ton early game when you can't equip equivalent tires on other trucks

The Kodiak looks so cool, but speed, power, acceleration, the lack of a crane combo... it's just one big pile of meh to me in this game unfortunately.
