In this 3-part mini series to one of the most scenic spots in West Virginia my father and I began our journey by traveling over 200 miles south to the quaint town of Elkins. We will explore 3 separate destinations within this mountainous part of the eastern United States including: Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort, Seneca Rocks as well as Blackwater Falls State Park.
The Monongahela National Forest encompases this region of the state established in 1920 and is considered one of the most ecologically diverse areas in the US. Elevations range from just under 1,000 feet to 4,863 feet above sea level. You will find diverse wildlife from black bears, deer, wild turkeys, grouse and on some rare occasions bobcats.
Snowshoe Mountain is over 5,000 feet above sea level and features a wide-variety of activities for tourists visiting this location. You can take a ride down to the scenic Shaver’s Lake on the gondola or simply explore the various shops featuring locally made goods. Whether you want to mountain bike in the summer or ski down the slopes during the winter months, Snowshoe has everything you need for an incredible vacation.
As always thank you for watching today’s journey to Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort and stay tuned for more adventures from West Virginia and many other unique destinations.
