In this video we camp in our canvas hot tent the Snowtrekker! The Snowtrekker is one of the best winter tents to own! We keep warm by splitting wood and feeding the hot tent stove. There are a lot of guys making outdoor videos these days, but yours are top notch. I actually "feel"like I'm there with you. Some guys bring along their dogs just to attract more viewers, in my opinion, but I can tell Esme is your companion and enjoys the trip as much as you do. Great job.

I'm over the silent bushcrafters channels. They are fine for a while but I get bored very quickly and you never get to learn about the person. But that's just me 👍

Hello Michael, I always admire the equipment you travel with. Laugh, camping for old men. Great that you always think of your dogs, oh yes, they have found paradise. It's no different with me, the woman her dog, comes first. I spent a few days on the road with the Arctic Cat, slept under the tarp, grinned a flannel blanket in my sleeping bag and when the rain came, I crawled into 2 rubbish bags 240 litres. Dry and very warm. Was so just above zero °C. You wouldn't believe how good it is to cook something with a Liquid Stove. Always take a few litres of ethanol with you and it fits. Great to see you got tenting again Michael. I really do like that tent, it would suit my way of winter camping but I wouldn’t think I could walk in to my camp with it (10 mins from the car) along with all my other winter camping gear. The stove did a cracking job of the steak. Thanks mate 👍

would you mind commenting a bit on how the can am defender has been performing? are you happy with it? have confidence with it

The Can Am has worked out well but I have had some technical issues with it that got fixed by the dealer. The XT Cab HD 10 variant is a heavy beast but it also has lots of power. Adding the tracks really makes the machine something special. With the full heated cab, it is very capable in the snow with the 360 LT tracks. Cold weather starting has been an issue in the past and that doesn't give me 100% confidence in the machine. I carry several boosters just incase of issues 😉 There are not many machines to match it for features and accessories on the market BUT there are better built machines available (Honda, Yamaha). Hope that helps!

It's always a good idea to get your UTV turned around and on the level after you finish unloading. Mother Nature can sometimes leave you with a nasty surprise overnight in over a foot of wet nasty snow. Even turning around could be difficult. Things happen: brakes freeze, batteries die. Anticipate the worst and you won't get fooled. It's why we never went into wilderness with just one vehicle. Luckily you don't have rivers to cross which is a whole 'nother ball game.

Hey Dave, some pretty good episodes there. I especially like to see the way you always care for Esme before yourself. I believe you need a couple items since you seem to spend so much money on new equipment. The first being the camp Firefox stove the second being the Russian Bear UP 5 tent. Just my opinion. Hi Spencer - I think you meant a "spark arrestor" but your auto-correct thought better of it! 😄 Firstly they don't really do anything apart from block up and cause smoke to build up and enter the tent, especially with a small stove. The soot/creosote builds up fast with the Boreal spruce and pine I have access to. If you run the stove correctly, there should not be an excess of sparks. The Kni-co stove I have from Snowtrekker, also has a 45 degree articulated elbow to allow the stove pipe to exit the tent at an angle, which I can adjust to suite the wind conditions. Hope that helps! 👍

Another awsome video Michael!! My entourage dosen't get it that I like to go sleep in the woods especially during winter time. I've given up on trying to explain. Only those who live the experience know what it's like to feel the firestove heating up the tent, the smell and sound of food cooking and a comfy bed for the night. And you definitly know some people don't get it when they ask "Aren't you scared to sleep in the woods....it must be so cold???" Now I am really concerned about you giving that generous T-bone to Esme. Imagime what all the other dogs thought of thier human slaves not giving them such a treat. I've slept two people and its fine (8' x 10' floor space) but its awesome for 1 occasionally 2. Remember in winter you are packing much more gear than summer and all that takes space 👍 If you only camp with 2 people I'd maybe step up a size.

Savage 42 just picked one up 2 months ago for training my fem lab Frankie usually use 12ga or a 22 with quiet ammo but seeing im going to have a dog with me again can have both if needed

Its a nice little tool. I use 7 1/2 shot for most shots and a .22 quiet solid - for a easy close bird. Plus I keep some slugs for protection. I hope Frankie loves bird hunting as much as Esme! 🐶

Hi Jay - I was in the same boat when I bought this a few years ago - Just got hosed on the exchange rate / import duty. But I couldn't be happier with the tent and if I split the cost over the next 15-20 years, it makes me feel better about the price!! Hi Paul - they are the Can Am Defender OEM models - They are OK but they fit well and have lived up to some hard knocks. The refection is not the best as I think its a plastic coated mirror not glass.

More than 92% of Quebec's territory is Crown land. www.quebec.ca/en/tourism-and-recreation/sporting-and-outdoor-activities/activities-permitted-public-land. Here you can camp, fish and hunt according to the rules. I had them in there! I showed a clip with me using them and they did work in the tent when the ground got soft 👍 Worked like a charm!

@@TheEmporiumOutdoors my bad rewatched it and I can barely make them out. They asked for a review but could only say good in sand. Have not tried them on my table yet. Was curious in mud and snow. Guess you can give them feed back. Won’t get back to AK until spring. You know you can fit the chair buddies in the Sportneer bag with the chair. I can squench them in and zip it up.

@@outsideinalaskahawaii5987 Good tip about the buddies in the bag! They worked well in ice and then the softer ground as the tent warmed up! I didn't sink once! We will see if the deep cold will damage them 🤔 Thats a shame you will miss the winter in AK! But I'm sure the sin will be nice too 😄

Which music? The intro? Its kinda hard to change the intro and outro as people get used to them overtime. The other music I try and rotate and add new tracks to keep it fresh 👍

And we chatting about it last time it was in one of your vids. It's just not happy music at all. Would definitely send the average North American new viewer packing.
