I really enjoyed this so informative. I’m really glad you asked the question about the impact of birders observing. It’s important for all of us to remember not to interfere with any wildlife. I really enjoy your channel I’m sure it will continue to grow!

There have been at least 4 Snowys for the last few weeks on Lake Onalaska, near La Crosse, WI. (Also a pair of Short-eared Owls from time to time.)

I live in New york about 7 hours away. I have heard about it on the ABA rarities hourly reports. And being 14 and not able to drive, its pretty hard as each report comes in daily. Ive seen quite a few photos, and it seems to becoming pretty popular online to! The Great that you got to see it though.

WOW! I thought the irruptive year for Snowies was because of LACK of food. A lot like winter finch's. Really neat to learn that it was actually because of to many lemmings. I did find it curios because on my all the eBird reports ive seen have been immatures and juvies/1stYear. So i was wondering if something else was going on. This was answers to a lot of questions, Thanks! Lovely podcast to listen to when i can. Great commentary!

This was very interesting. I've learned about them. I'd like to try and go hang out around the Lakefronts and see if I could spot one. Any tips on where to go from the southeastern part of the state. Also, maybe I missed it, but when do they start heading back to there breading grounds? Thanks for a great video. These are some beautiful owls!

Also do you have any videos out on how to use ebird. I downloaded it and I can't find where birds have been spotted. Do you pay for that an upgrade. Seems all I can find in the app is the timer. Ughh

Hey, I live around Milwaukee so I can give some tips for here. The walkable breakwall at McKinley Marina has been a great place for them. More recently behind the lake express ferry building there's been one consistently there. And (possibly same individual as the ferry) one on the petroleum pier. Good luck if you try!

They're mostly gone by early March btw. (Down in Milwaukee at least)

@@chriscarlsen2100 there should be a bar on the bottom of the app. One of the options is "explore". Click that and it will take you to a screen where you can search species 🙂

Here you go, Chris! kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnLOlKKaeZagbLM The last one I saw was on the Petroleum Pier in Milwaukee which was in our video about the Tufted Duck. You should be able to search for them on eBird to see recent reports! - Derek

I totally agree about it being an Eastern irruption. They are still avoiding my state. Having said that, 2 were seen in one of the states bordering mine. I wasn't able to go see them, but all the birders that went to see them had to submit their checklists from multiple inaccurate locations because some person decided to chase the Snowy Owls on their snowmobile. 'Tis a shame.
