The real enemy wasn't the EU. It's Ex Tory capitalist bankers like Nigel Farage, who wanted to leave the EU to keep our economy closely linked with New York banks encouraging greed and debt. Who resigned as soon as people did what he said, to leave us out the EU with Tories in power who will use leaving the EU as a chance to mistreat British people and to go along with the USA using British money to arm Islamic extremists to overthrow leaders like Assad who the USA doesn't like, because they're friends with Russia. Since we left the EU it's as if we're not an European country any more. There's hardly any white people in advertising and no white women in TV shows. Scotland have the chance of a brighter future by leaving the UK and becoming more like the rest of north Europe, with politicians who care about the people.

EU is much more preferable than being in the UK. When Thatcher didn't like the EU preventing Tories mistreating British people, such as EU saying workers should have enough breaks and genetically modified ingredients should be labelled, the secret service whistle blower David Shayler told how she was using British money to go along with the USA funding Al Qaeda in Libya against Gaddafi. A country people didn't pay household bills. While more old British people were dying of the cold than before Tories stole and sold off public owned energy. As an English person I'm jealous Scotland have the chance of a brighter future by leaving the UK and becoming more like the rest of north Europe, with politicians who care about the people. While England will always be full of Tory tabloid readers who call others lefties as an insult because they heard somebody in the USA online saying it to mean only cultural aspects, while they cheer on the NHS which is a lefty idea. Boris is like Thatcher, in that he wants to keep the British economy closely linked with USA banks encouraging people to live in greed and debt and to make the rest of the world hate England, for reasons only a few will gain from. While devolution has already allowed Scotland to counteract what England voted for, so Scottish people have free prescriptions and university, while English students are £50,000 in debt at the start of their life.

One day I discovered the SNP , a gentleman outlined how Scotland would finally be independent, well who could argue with that given the dark past of invasions, genocides, highland clearances - the Scots have suffered badly under the yoke of the English government ever since 1066. I asked if Scotland was going to be part of the EEC ( now the EU) - my astonishment I learnt it would be. I then asked - wouldn't Scotland still be under the rule of a foreign power? No answer was forthcoming. As the decades have rolled by ive learnt we need to be careful of these so called "independence" or so called "activists" , moreover the "movement" is chaired by bad actors with their own agenda and narrative for future and need the support of people ignorant to the true nature of the movement. Of course what happens is when the true leaders of the movement gain power they have no further need for the useful idiots that got them into power.

I’ve been saying this for years Nigel, since the whole Scottish Independence-Brexit debacle popped up, and I have to say you’re spot on, as usual. Personally I would prefer if Scotland didn’t leave the UK (considering it was their king who made the bloody thing in the first place), however I could swallow the concept of Scottish independence - only if it was true independence. To me it seems obvious that the cause was never about Scottish patriotism, but anti-English sentiment. If it was truly about Scottish patriotism and nationalism then the movement would not entertain the idea of joining the EU. I’ve noticed that a lot of Irish descendants are the ones who most ardently support the SNP, which furthers my belief that it is about anti-English sentiment rather than Scottish nationalism.

@@ScottishRoss27 Ross, I hope I made it clear that I am not so opposed to the concept of Scottish independence in itself. Though I personally don’t like the idea at all, I believe that Scots such as yourself reserve the right to decide if you want to be an independent Scottish nation, that protects and promotes it’s own Scottish culture, and funds it’s own Scottish institutions. This to me is not so abominable, and is a goal I as an immigrant who’s lived in Scotland most of my life can get behind with some prodding, ie if my hand was forced (if, say, you Scots had voted for it in the first referendum). The problem I have with the version of “independence” promoted by the SNP is that it is not true independence at all. Instead of sending money to London, now you are sending a tithe to Brussels. Now you bow to EU legislation instead of UK legislation. What is the point? Is this true independence? To me it seems clear, as I said in my initial comment, that this movement for Scotland to leave the UK and remain (or now I guess go back to) the EU was not born out of true Scottish nationalism, but of anti-English sentiment. Can these SNP bastards not even get nationalism and independence right? I mean, they’re not complicated concepts. But that is just my opinion. It is now getting late Ross, as I’m sure you are acutely aware, so I am going to bed. Best wishes.

Nigel, my husband and I moved to Scotland from England in the 80’s mainly because of the good schooling system which at the time was pretty good .. I We made the drastic decision in November 2019 to move out of Scotland To just 30 miles down the road just over the border in Carlisle and the decision to move was made, only made because of the Scottish political situation. We sadly watched over the years a beautiful country within our beloved UK be dragged so far down hill, be totally neglected in every way and we the people totally ignored and all because of this total obsession the government have with wanting to be part of a dictatorship of Europe. Not of course Independence as you certainly will not be independent living under the German hat! My father would be turning in his grave at the thought(a man on the front mine sweeper going across the channel on that poignant day) risking his life for freedom. I am so sad at what could be but so relieved you are choosing to use the platform you have to fight for the UK. Thank you Nigel x

From near Inverness, totally agree. I’m a Conservative, but it’s unfortunately true that most of the Party leadership in Scotland are Remainers and even now accept that the UK has left the EU only through gritted teeth. I personally have always supported Boris and am so pleased he replaced May, he would have replaced Cameron in 2016 but for Gove duplicity. Anyway, back to Scotland, it’s time to displace the SNP in May (the month this time 😉) and only the Conservatives even make a pretence of wanting to do that. Labour & LibDems simply wish to prevaricate. I’ll be giving both votes, constituency & list, to the Conservatives.

The EU isn’t listening to Unionists because they keep insisting on a road map to full implementation of the NI Protocol. Although the UK Government isn’t listening either but instead tries with extension of Grace periods and a few days ago the Irish Government had a RTE documentary about a future United Ireland without listening to Unionists.
