I’ll go ahead and get ahead of this by saying that I do not believe keto is a bad diet for most people, even in face of this study, because as I stated in the video, we need more data. What other data does exist seems to show positive effects of a ketogenic diet. However, there is no denying that the ketone discussed does lead to human heart cell death based on the data I covered in previous videos and we can’t turn a blind eye to a study simply because we don’t have an acceptable explanation to brush it away. I currently (6/14/2021) stand behind the ketogenic diet as a viable option for a variety of health outcomes, but I refuse to not investigate dissenting literature. I wonder if there are any research pieces looking at ketone meter reading and heart health. I also wonder if the heart muscle implications are specific to a particular age group and particular cell groups? E.g. elderly and in particular those with alzheimer's disease can have better neurons function.

Any update to the research on this? I've been doing keto 3 months with great results for overall health, all lipids in normal levels and down 25lbs. interested to see if this is a long term diet I should stick to or just one to get to low BF and re-introduce carbs. Male 44, 5'10, 185lbs 13% bf

I have one question that I have last five years been pondering. After having two heart infarcts in 2016, having three stents and after one year being following the standard good care protocol, dietary guidelines and medication my health just kept deteriorating. In 2017 June my research on issues convinced me to drop all medication and move to full-time keto-diet with intermittent fasting. Today 4 years has passed my heart is healthy, not being sick during this time, twice a year fully checkup on my vitals. My question is, do you think that if the livestock or wildlife were the potential customers of industries of junkfood soft drinks there would be massive build-ups of Chronic Illnesses and life-long series of medicine prescription.

does this include ketones produced from fasting or is it just the ketogenic diet? (Is there even a difference?)
@Physionic
@Physionic 3 жыл бұрын
It would include ketones from fasting, yes. No, no difference. Good observation.

@@Physionic so I take it, any form of dieting below maintenance will/may somehow contribute to heart damage due to ketones, which, though variable, will exist.

Thank you Nic for this content. I have been doing keto off and on for about 3 years now and with a family history of heart issues I am open to the research out there concerning this. Rather than get emotional one way or another about this I'd rather disseminate the science that is out there. I am becoming a bit skeptical about listening to the "gurus" that seem to have some sort of a hidden agenda.

Do you think cycling the keto died monday-friday and then carb refeeding saturday/sunday would significally reduce the heart cell damage? is it consistent high ketone levels that cause the damage or any sort of elevated ketones at any time?
@Physionic
@Physionic 3 жыл бұрын
5 days of keto may not be enough to raise ketone levels sufficiently, so that may help, but that's pure speculation on my part.

Not on these measures, no. The food consumption is in the supplemental section of the study, if you're interested.

Without the other confounding factors, the fact that Rat's do not have a Gallbladder because their bodies are not designed to eat large amounts of fat, let alone a fat type people on Keto don't ingest in those quantities, kind of makes this sort of study a non-starter. The other part just shows that sick human heart cells in a dish get sicker, well I could've told you this... particularly so when they're not connected to the human body that plays an essential role in their health via many other pathways. I honestly can't believe various institutions actually funded this, if someone had come to me and explained the experiment I would've told them to stop wasting my time and trying to waste my money! 💸

I'm open for debate and study, but I question the intentions of a potentially bias video designed for views or attention. I do enjoy your videos though I am always a skeptic first when it comes to humans.

My thoughts are that I hope the serrapeptase complexes I invest in pay biological dividends. In terms of scar tissue breakdown that is. Though I don't believe this is the whole story, it's but one chapter of a convoluted storyline arc. And there's a multiplicity of subtleties and nuances yet to be gleaned as more human study becomes apparent. Look forward to more instalments on this self-care subject in the not so far future.

You do bring up an excellent argument: "Keto might be beneficial in the short term -diabetes, but in the long term, it might have negative effects on the operation of the heart. Read more and wait for more data." Does that about sum it up? Excellent video quality and sound btw.👍

Nice video. About keto and diabetes, I don´t know if this will be useful, but I can bring annecdotal evidence that it is beneficial even in the long term. My grandfather is 83 year old and has diabetes since 60, his glucose level had even hit almost 400mg/dL various times. For the past 3 years he have been living with me and my mother, and kept an almost keto diet except some beans and other non-processed carbohydrate, and a TRF with 12-14 hours of fasting per day. His glucose in one year went to the normal range and it´s been there since, aside from that he was still taking medicines for diabetes. What is exceptional is that we didn´t have how to buy his medicine for 6 months straight, normally the public health system here in Brazil would deliver, but it didn´t, and his doctor noticed that his glucose stayed in the normal range even wihtout any drugs during this 6 months and now he completed stopped taking it for almost a year. Thanks for the good content, hope that´s helpful and understandable given that my english isn´t the best.
