That was the first thing I was thinking of. It’s a nice vise, but at $1,500, it’s a bit pricey. I still have my Starrett 4 1/2. It far stronger than this one is. With that tiny pi it on the bottom, I hate to think what would happen if someone wales on a part in this.

I was so excited when you announced a new shop and started moving machines in. It took a while but i figured it was just the covid delays in getting tooling and everything. I would have loved to see new content in a much larger shop with new toys to play with (sincere). But its been so long and you have tons and tons of tooling coming in but hardly any jobs. I love a new machine day unboxing video as much as the next guy, and yeah drilling holes in plate steel is sometimes what you gotta do, but i have to find myself starting to agree with peoole that a lot of these videos are just about marketing tools. Thats fine if that brings in the money but do it in addition to the main content that people love you for in the first place. I love you adam and i love your channel. I still do, and i dont want to make fun of it like some do, but i do sometimes wonder where all those jobs went. I mean even with no one asking for work done you said yourself you have a lot of projects to refurb that pacemaker. Where is all that? Youre still my favorite machinist and i dont even mind some product placement and cnc work thrown in, but i miss the videos that were like 45 minutes long and just about cutting something in half with a shaper. That yard sale music was a psychological cue for peace. I havent seen that in a while. Occasionally one or two jobs but thats it

Many miss the old machining videos, and there are a lot of them to look back at to discover new things and learn. He did those for many years but then decided to change on things and try something new to him, that he wished. Which is naturally alright. It's all up to him. I do not complain anything about his or others channels, how they wish to run things, I just look at what I feel most interesting among videos that people put out. I'm not so often at Adams channel, but will be interesting to see when he will be building and moving to his possible new house and larger shop. KZbin is big. There is like CCE Australia, which is a working job shop, and many others.

You and others played are big part in my success. So my question comes from the heart. What is this channels goal? It’s purpose? Where acre you headed? It’s all of our dream to have a nice shop full of machines and tools. You’ve achieved that and it is great. What does this mean for your channel? Could you make a video telling us what’s in store? Other than seeing cool items I personally don’t gravitate to your channel to learn something and for entertainment. I see it as like the old speed tv show Trucks. Just showing off sponsors. A tv show. Are you going to hire guys to make parts for the community? Or customers. Or are you comfortable right here. One-man shoppin’ it with all those new toys. From the heart. Ken

@@cup_and_cone I don't think that having a busy shop is part of his makeup. As the intro to his Adventures channel says, he likes to do what piques his interest. As for working long hours day in day out at the shop, I think he's done with that. He never talks of shop revenue or employing anyone. Had he stayed on at Motion, he'd be foreman or senior foreman for a while now, as that guy passed a few years back. He'd have known that route at some point was a given, but chose to move on regardless. Although a big change a couple of years ago, and he's still only just started his CNC journey, having a studio type outfit and the role of content creator suits him well.

I agree on the toolbox, mine has the dual slids on the top and bottom drawers and pulls very smooth. Also, it's painted on the inside. Why would I even consider buying a new one?

Can’t agree with the Cleveland recommendation more. I’ve had excellent luck with their drill bits. I had a CNC job where I had an open end contract for square foot pads with 1/2 holes in each corner. The Morse brand drill bits were getting me roughly 180 holes per drill, while the Cleveland brand got me roughly 760 holes per drill. For only $2 more each drill, it was well worth it. Eventually I did switch to carbide drills, but while I was using hss/cobalt, I got good life out of the Cleveland.

The Orange vise is pretty nice - although like you said, it is not meant for heavy duty usage. I looked up the price and while it's a bit pricy for a medium duty vise, for someone who is more detail oriented and normally does smaller type work, it will give lots & lots of variable positioning. Looks to be extremely well made and finely finished - almost a sin to get it scratched or dented - lol!! That said, for more crude work, there is nothing like a vintage Parker or similar heavy duty cast iron vise. They are getting a bit more difficult to find in great shape and when you do they are ridiculously priced. All the more reason for those who are not doing heavy duty work to look at the Orange!

I designed the covers to be flexible and easy to change out. Growing up in a jobshop, we have made countless unique parts and changed setups dozens of times a day. The silicone can be left full length and pushed aside if needed, or placed end to end seamlessly with clean cuts. Oftentimes, 1 or 2 grooves on larger machines can remain covered year round. Depending on the amount of swarf generated and the machine kinematics, the savings can be substantial. We have some customers with 300+ machine installations savings hundreds of thousands or millions per year in machine down time. Vertical mills are notorious for Chip accumulation that really adds up.

That is a beautifully engineered and fabricated vise. For the price, it really should be. The versatility and ease of adapting the vise to different tasks is impressive. The only thing that bugs me about it after first impressions is the number of tool sizes you need to adjust everything. If I were inspecting it up close it would probably be apparent why they couldn't make it with fewer fastener sizes, bit at a glance it bugs me. I'd want to make a rack for the most used wrench or two right there by where it's mounted.

I'm a long time subscriber. I used to devour your content in the old days, because it was authentic. The machines you had back then actually had a purpose - to get jobs done. You were humble, hard working and down-to-earth. Nowadays it's all about selling and promoting stuff. From the lubricants, debur kit, drills, mills, machines, micrometers, each and every tool you show only serves promotional purpose. No more parts machining, no more interesting projects, no more viewer mail, no more connection with the actual people who got you here, the subscribers. That's sad, it really is...

The metric system sucks for many reasons. The most important one is that 10 is only evenly divisible by 2 & 5. 12 is evenly divisible by 2, 3, 4, & 6. So it is easy to do 1/3, 2/3, 1/4, 3/4. Also 24 has more options than 20, like 6 & 8.
@mm9773
@mm9773 Жыл бұрын
@@glych002 I hear this argument all the time, but a) show me the 1/3 inch mark on a ruler, and b) divisibility is simply irrelevant when you work in decimals (which machinists do anyway, because fractions become totally ridiculous beyond a 64th or whatever). It’s a pointless debate anyway, because there’s no country on earth that measures things exclusively in metric yet, but the whole world is inevitably moving towards it; it just takes the US longer than others because some people like to turn it into a matter of pride in order to score cheap political points.

@@mm9773 There are several reasons why base 12 (duodecimal) system is superior: 1. Natural Divisibility: Base 12 has more factors (2, 3, 4, 6) compared to base 10, allowing for easier and more intuitive division of a mile (5,280 feet) into units that are evenly divisible by common numbers. 2.Simpler Fractions: Base 12’s factors allow for straightforward representation of fractions like 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, and 1/6 as whole numbers, simplifying calculations involving fractions of a mile. 3. Convenient Subdivisions: A mile can be divided into smaller units like half-miles (440 yards), quarter-miles (220 yards), and thirds of a mile (176 yards), aligning with familiar measurements used in various applications. 4. Historical Context: The English (Imperial) system, based on base 12, historically used measurements like yards, feet, and inches. This alignment enhances compatibility and consistency in calculations. 5. Visual and Mental Estimation: Base 12’s compatibility with finger counting (three segments per four fingers) makes visualizing and mentally estimating distances more intuitive. 6. Alignment with Human Anatomy: Base 12 resonates with our 12 finger segments, making counting and visualizing measurements like feet more relatable to our physical structure. 7. Intuitive Foot Divisions: Dividing a foot into thirds (4 inches) or quarters (3 inches) becomes natural in base 12, simplifying calculations for mile-based measurements. 8. Strides and Base 12: Our stride length aligns naturally with base 12, enhancing accuracy and mental estimation for distances like miles. 9. Common Human References: Familiar human-scale measurements in a base 12 system make estimating distances more convenient and practical. 10. Ease of Visual Counting: Base 12’s alignment with finger counting allows for simpler visual counting of feet and distances.

@@mm9773 well, if they made a ruler that divided inches into 12ths that be great, but they don’t, instead to find the 1/3 mark on a ruler you get a high accuracy machinist ruler that has 100ths and you go to 3.3

Well, he needs maybe 250k or 300k views to pay for the vice - on any video, doesn’t have to be this one. People forget that things work differently for people with half a million followers. That’s neither good nor evil, just the way it works: it’s not “a day in the life of Adam the machinist”, it’s “a day in the life of Adam the KZbinr”. Also, what are the chances he paid for this one at all? I’m guessing Orange asked him to use it and give his opinion on it, or to just mount it somewhere in his shop. Also neither good nor evil, but I really wish he would explictly say if he bought it or if it was given to him. He’s not mentioning it, and to me that’s fishy.

Placed a large to me order with KBC Tools. I wanted to support TECO products with a purchase of their all-metal holder for mill work holding tooling since TECO supported you Adam in a previous video. Unfortunately the TECO purchase as received was beaten up in shipping, scratched and dented. Looked like it was in a shop for 20 plus years. It was the lack of packaging material, but it appeared to have been that way long long ago. I returned it and received a call confirming their acceptance. They said it happened to be the last one in stock, so someone shipped it to me without regard to its condition. I was offered credit, but I said I wanted that specific TECO brand given their support of your channel and its Made in the USA. Pricy yes! . They are contacting TECO to inquire on a direct shipment I requested. Hopefully this will be resolved this coming week with a "New" TECO work holding clamp system made in the USA and all metal.
