Adam the main reason the way things are said differently is down to HOW it is spelt along with dropping of letters Example- Colour (English) against Color (USA) When it comes down to it how it’s said don’t matter as long as the END result is correct and fits in any part of the world I am an Apprentice trained Mechanical Engineer and cane out as a Turner/ machinist but was trained on ALL aspects of the workshop from Precision machining through to keeping piling machines running ( ground engineering) where as long as it fitted then absolute precision go out the window because where mud and water get in the way it can stop a part from coming apart when speed is needed But as we say “horses for coarses “

Abby keep up the good work in the shop. You can never stop learning new stuff. Shop work isn't just for the guys. On KZbin , there is a gal who does woodworking projects and she learned the basics from her dad. After making videos of her projects she decided to give up her day job and become a professional woodworker. She now has her own shop in Texas. you already may know whom I'm talking about, her name is April Wilkerson. Abby you can do whatever you choose to do.

Here is another good reason for Abbie to be in the shop... Shops are dangerous and things happen, nice to have someone that can call an ambulance when things go bad! She will probably hate this comment, but reality is that things do happen and safer in the shop with a second person. After that, you should get her working in Fusion, she might be good at that.

I'm surprised you haven't made a worktable cover for the CNC table yet. As convenient as that is, it might be a good idea to make a free standing work table that can go over the cnc base. It doesn't have to actually sit on the table itself, you could make something like a table on casters that you can roll over it and that would give you extra work space or a place to keep parts when you're working on stuff. Or maybe a table to can swing in with the jib crane. That way you can work over it and don't have to worry about chips & dust.

The auto-reverse feature on the Flexarm is fantastic. It let's you know "you've gone deep enough, time to back out" which gives you time to push the reverse button. Genius! Edit: I always wondered how the Flexarm was aligned to be perpendicular to the work surface. Thanks for explaining the use of that magnetic insert. Easy, peasy.

Most CNC controls swap the X or Y axis to the spindle motor encoder, during the tapping cycle, by using a macro program in the control software. This means a 3 axis control, for example, can have the spindle motor as an axis without the control needing to be a 4 axis control. The spindle motor can then be synced with the Z axis for precise tapping without the need for a floating tap holder.
@grafixbyjorj6 ай бұрын
I'd have tried a thread-forming tap (roll tap) for that, pushing the material into place rather than cutting it might have left enough to stop the no-go gauge from going in.

@@cristianstoica4544 No, he clearly shows and explains that you have to hold down the reversing lever, otherwise it pops out when the depth probe loses contact with the workpiece and the tap reverts to forward direction.

Good video. It goes without saying the chased holes will test weaker than they would be without re-work. I was cringing a little when I noticed a few small chips that seemed to be under the magnet. I assume a small space between the magnet and the plate will weaken the magnetic bond between the two.

Since the plate with the damaged threads had the damage at the start of the threads, I think it would have been better and with less chance of cross threading if you turned the plate over and chased the threads from the back side with the good threads so that there was no risk of cross threading and the tap would push the shavings away from the thread rather than pushing the shavings down through and possibly damaging the good threads.
@ellieprice3635 ай бұрын
He could have used a form tap, which will not cross thread, to pick up those damaged threads. No need to tap from the back side. A form tap would not have cut the threads oversized.

Adam, I hope you know just how lucky you are to have a good wife like Abby. She’s definitely a keeper. Good to see you Abby,just keep in mind when using the different types of equipment ,it’s better to be slightly afraid of it,than be complacent around it. Not that Adam would ever lit you do something that he hasn’t totally checked out beforehand.
@mattykavanagh21815 ай бұрын
For tapping just multiply your spindle speed by your pitch, that is your feed. For example: METRIC= M20 x 2.5 ,If we say we will run spindle speed at 150 rpm, 150 x 2.5= 375 so your feed would be F375 IMPERIAL/INCHES= 1/2 x 13 UNC,If we say spindle speed is S250 rpm x 0.0769" = 19.225" so your feed would be F19.225" So whatever RPM you choose as long as you multiply it by your pitch you're all good.

✨✨✨ No one will likely ever read this - but it sure seems to me that the thread-chasing cutting depth was set just a little shallow. It did not appear the full form of the tap made it through to the other side. This would explain why both sides of the go-no-go gage AND the stud all got tight at the same depth. ✨✨✨
@seabreezecoffeeroasters79946 ай бұрын
If they got chased to a full depth it would make them even more sloppy. As it is staying in house it is actually more important it suits HIS hold downs or bolts than a gage fit. Compromise sometimes is an option.

What if you chased the "bad" threads with a thread forming tap? Cutting taps remove the material but a form tap might "push" the material to improve the thread fit without making them oversized.
