I love the side glass shape too, it fits well with how the right passenger windows line up, i just wish they could be opened up like access doors

Hi John I know it's been awhile for your shell..was wondering was your shell beefed up for more weight when you bought it and when you installed your tracks did you use stock bolts or longer...? Every other hole for drilling?..would be 6 on each side?..I'm installing one too...also where did set your tracks at? Sorry for the ?s...It's just I don't want to screw up the drilling...!

I didn't do anything special at all. The tracks were supplied and installed by the SnugTop dealer. I think there are 4 bolts per side and as I recall they are either Thule or Yakima tracks.

How does one go about weather proofing a 3rd gen Taco to keep the water out? Esp at the front of the where there’s a gap in the rails.

Is it worth getting a topper on a 5ft bed? I have ranger 5ft and ordered a.r.e revo, but now double guessing, loading it must be difficult vs when bed is open

That camper top really looks nice on your truck. However, I have a question, if I may. Several of my Tacoma friends who have placed camper tops on their trucks say the crease in the upper front bed area leaks water in during rain. I can see where it would. On my truck, with no topper, you can see where the problem area is located. Have you had any issues with water leaking into your topper bed area?

Did you get the sportsman package with the cap? How is it holding up with the RTT on it and driving on rough trails? I am planning to get a snugtop too so really interested in your take on it especially camping with a RTT mounted on a fiberglass shell.

I'm not sure what the sportsman package is. Maybe they've added that since I got mine. As far as quality, it's holding up GREAT thus far. No issues with off roading or loading the RTT (or anything else) up there.

I just recently had my installed and I'm not happy with the fitment of the camper and the color match seems lighter. The sides of the camper where they meet the bed of the truck seems to have a 3/4" gap between the camper shell and the bed of the truck. I was curious if yours fitted the same and if the color match was spot on? I've seen other camper shells on the tacoma in person and they fit snug along the bed of the truck.

The color is good. The sides of the shell overhang just a touch to keep the water out, but there's no gap or anything.

if i was going to pay 3200 for a cap. I would go with an rsi smart cap. They are all steel. This one looks better than the leer or the others.

Everyone who gets a shell for the 3rd Gen Tacoma complains about water leaks. How were you able to avoid this? Did the installer patch up the openings at the front corners of the bed?

Great question. No the installer did not. I did it myself before having it installed. So far, no leaks.

@cooleye Ive got water coming in-between the plastic top pieces on the sides of the bed. Its completely unrelated to whatever type of topper you get or how you install it. Im wondering what others have done to fix this to make it absolutely water tight.
