"Half dead lightning bug" 😆- content like that is why we're all here. Pro tip: on dusty dirt/gravel roads, for an extended travel time (like me!), open the shell's front window 1" to 2". It helps pressurize the shell which prevents road dust (rear turbulence - that's what she said) from entering through the window/tail gate (oh it will otherwise), coating the back of the bed or stuff you have back there. It really works. When I got my Leer, I had an actual horse trailer type scoop/vent that I was going to install towards the front of the shell roof (cutting a hole in the fiberglass) to really pressurize it. Since they build shells better and better, turns out the window slot trick was enough - no annoying road dust build up. Vent sits on a shelf.

Dang! That is definitely a pro tip. Keep the dust out of the falcons little beaks 🦅 I’ll be trying that!
@tim3308

@@teamoildrop When this subject comes up w/ toppers + dusty roads online (you'll see - even your black tuck will be pretty clean still, despite dusty roads - but the tailgate and rear topper window will be covered in dust - it wants in!) you'll' see guys go for sealing the tailgate gaps/truck bed holes (for water drain) w/ weather stripping, etc. Do NOT do that at all. Sealing it will still let dust in, and it lessons the pressurize effect/trick. You want that "front" air from the window crack to push out thru the tailgate gaps and bed holes, keeping the dust at bay.

My ARE CX-HD that I had installed around September of '21 didn't come with that type of rear door. I wish I got the roof rails instead of the ARE rack that's more or less permanent. I came here to this video for the bedrug and how you like it.

I liked your jokes about the Long Bed vs. Short Beds. I don't have a preference on either, except my short bed barely fits in the garage (with two inches to spare). Hope you and the family are doing well. I imagine with the little one, you are not sleeping much. Not a big camper guy, my dogs prefer the back seat (with air conditioning).

This is my 5th Tacoma and now first long bed… long beds looked odd to me until I had one, now it’s the other way around ha! And for punishment of my jokes my long bed won’t fit in my garage so I am always covering her to protect from hail (which we have had a LOT of this season in Colorado). I debated getting a camper for a long time usually put off by the price, but I tell you, again it’s one of those things I can’t go without now. The security and peace of mind is unbeatable for me. The family is doing great! Thanks Donald, hope y’all are as well.

Falcons!? There will be no room as you're gonna have to fight off Greg Brady (70's Brady bunch) wanting to move into his new bachelor pad w/ the wall to wall and upwall babe magnet carpeting! Why I totally recognize your game - you got the falcorithm algorithm room about right. We do two and a small one comfortably. But yeah SIX in the long bed. Shoot and score. Gotta say your long bed looks outstanding w/ a shell - definite upgrade in looks and functionality. "Rugbed" is the "extra" as my students would say - really sharp (if E-man was 6. he'd make it his little clubhouse. Falcon crap would sadly ruin it. Great video, great purchase. 🤛🤛🤛🤛🤛🤛

Great video oil drop! I really appreciate your channel when it comes to servicing my 16 Tacoma. I know this isnt a question forum, but Id like to ask if you’ve seen any oil seeping in that timing chain cover area? I’m seeing it on mine. Not sure if it’s coming from the inspection cover or the full front cover. Regardless, I had to ask because you really seem to know your stuff! Thanks for all the info!

@@aaronpayne8774 Mine is also a 2016. "Common" would be more like more unfortunately susceptible in those early runs. That is, until the sealant proceudre was improved by toyota quickly. Unfortunately you probaly do have the dreaded cover leak and this is a timely fix. You'd save thousands of dollars if you buy/borrow an engine jack spend a weekend DIYing it. All I can help with is if the day comes I do contract this issue, I'll make a video out of it!

Can you lock it from the inside so it’s locked if you’re sleeping in the back? I know you can get the keyless entry and sync it to your key fob so you can lock and unlock with that, but that’s a pretty pricy option.

Hey! Sorry this was missed. You can’t technically lock it from the inside but if you wanted you could easily and temporarily disable the cable from the inside so it can’t be opened.

I prefer the taller tops that ARE makes as this model is way to small to haul my vintage bikes in unless I pile them on top of each other.I like the TW model because I can haul my bikes standing up, which lessens up the damage they get when laying on their sides on top of each other.. Not into carpeting ( obviously) as I deal in vintage mountain bikes and the carpeting would get filthy , smell bad and have grease stains. Been there, done that. Better to get some closed foam mats and bedrolls if you're planning on sleeping in the back, which most people seldom if ever do during their ownership of a capped truck. Rather spend the money on a tent or hotel room. BTW, the cab is the only safe way to transport dogs as that if they are in the cab you can buckle them in whereas if they are in the back they can be thrown around when making emergency maneuvers . Good looking dog, hope you are responsible and have a harness that buckles in for him.
