Good comparison. I watched a review of the original version and out of the bag there were quality issues (including a broken plastic snap). It looks like some of the problems have been addressed. After bringing the two together and seeing the difference, I feel confident having just picked up a G2, it won't be a bad investment.

Good comparison there. I've had the G1 for 4 or so years without any problems but the G2 does look a lot more robust. I just wish they kept the snaps!

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but the snaps are to fashion a bivy from the tarp, its the reason i bought the tarp actually, you can also fashion a bivy tent from it too more of a hooch but there are many uses for this tarp, there was a video years ago but i cant seem to find it anymore...

Yeah i know the snaps are there for a reason. Ive added them to my G2 Now in exactly the same place. So works tbe same as the G1 Does. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment my friend

If you shop about you can pick up the dd 3x3 tarp for around 30 pound, one thing I noticed different right away is that the reinforcement material is better on the dd than the g2, the snugpak is like that cheap tent groundsheet material where as the dd is a better quality material, I've never heard anything bad about the dd tarps personally and if you look on here there's hundreds of positive reviews. I believe the g1 had issues with loops tearing off but I have no experience with it. I think it's a bit like this, snugpak make insulated products and that's their bread and butter and I trust my life on their sleeping bags and clothing, can't fault them, but dd makes hammock sleep systems/Tarps and you'll be hard pushed to find better for the money.

@@OscarOutdoors22 on a side note, I was looking online a few months back and found a company called das outdoors, they make tarps from parachutes and it's a charity type company based in whales for ex soldiers, I think if I was to get a new tarp I'd consider their smallest one, you should give them a Google interesting stuff, might be up your street and best of all its made in the UK not China. Happy camping pal!

Hi Scotty, I am sorry but I am doing it again. Another sensible comment. I have to say that having seen both of them I prefer the G2, but having said that I still prefer my Basha's. I have at least 2 of each and I cannot see that changing any time soon, but your tarp is pretty close. :)

I have to admit that I have recently gotten hold of a third woodland Basha but that is just so I can keep it for my od green Lavvu set up. I also hope to be out there real soon. :)

Great review. No one else has done this so appreciate your effort. I just picked up one in color Coyote. It has plastic snaps so must be G1. Item #61675. UPC 8211659021700. Cost $55 US delivered. Purchased through US Navy Exchange. Even though G1, it looks to be worth the price for what it delivers.
