clearly volatile infested (the best comparison unit) would be way better if they exploded on death and didn't hurt allies in sc1, though they do run very fast in sc1 compared to sc2 I really do wish blizzard had made a 2nd expansion after broodwar, maybe 5 years later, where they learn from everything people did in the mapmaking and made better tools, even if you were limited to say 5-10 fully custom units (pick base unit from a list, change stats) they would be amazing for the flexibility.

Top commenter indeed ❤ Was wondering how painful this mission was going to be. Watching it live - yes, it was just as painful as I expected. The only benefit over normal was that you could stop most of the drops before they started.

At 38:15 the UED realized the game was lost and tried to fly away their buildings in a desperate attempt to stall for a base trade. Typical terran play.

21:35 I'm confused about what exactly happens here. To my knowledge, Dark Swarm makes everything under it immune to ranged attacks but not melee attacks. You put down one which lets you attack the bunker. Makes sense so far. Then you put down a second one on the enemy in front of you? Why? I assume the firebat counts as having a melee attack because that's the only thing I can think of that explains why you retreat out of the first swarm with predictable results.

The firebat and lurker does splash damage so it would affect the units under the dark swarm. That's why I retreated - the lurker got under my swarm and took control of it. I put down the dark swarm in anticipation of cleaning out the enemy units before it went off. That probably would have been true if I didn't target everyone onto the lurker to try and prevent it from running up. Just a tactical misstep that then resulted in panic lol

I always lose this mission when trying to play it normally because the UED masses Valks and doom-dives my overlords with them, which ensures I can never get any momentum and eventually run out of money.

Holy shit, I tried this mission on regular brood war, and I dont even know how I managed to beat it the first time without cheats, the enemy just goes mass Tanks + Guardians + Valks + Lukers + Ultras, it took me a lot to crack orange's first base, then I took all expansions and I kept failing at White's first base, no matter what I tried, Defilers, Ultras, DTs, Zeglings, Hydras, Guardians of my own, I tried multiple combined arms attacks, but I couldnt crack it and ran out of minerals. and the relentless attacks, I couldnt stop paying attention for a second before a massive train of overlords kept dropping units after units on my expansion, even with spores and hydras guarding the edge of the island.

Yeah, it's definitely the hardest mission in StarCraft 1. Getting control of the whole island is really important and then working out a cohesive attack path with a very large army. It's a big challenge.

@ Hmm, managed to beat it, I did the exact same, except that I took out White’s base at the north first, and intercepted the drops on the island, then went east, orange was very slow to respond, idk why it was that slow to respond; I’m not even a fraction as knowledgeable as you on Broodwar, but maybe its some form of behavior from the AI? Or maybe it’s just good ole Broodwar AI doing whatever it wants.

A few things on this: I've attempted to record unreleased series in an offline format, but I didn't particularly like how it came out. I've got a different format I'm going to try for the next series I do (record on twitch but make them fully edited and produced videos for YT). What about a YT exclusive upload appeals to you? I'm curious how I can take work with those ideas.

At 6 range, I think the Devourer at least has some kind of utility. It's very bad, but it at least has *some* niche. The Ultralisk has no benefit over the zergling in 99.9% of circumstances.

@ true, but ultralisks - can- kill buildings. I guess they’re never better at it than other gtg units, so you’d never build them instead of those. The damage point of the Devourer is just sooo bad, I don’t even know if the 6 range saves it.
