What has been given very little attention over the last 40-years, and even today, Geno's super power, the biggest achievement in his life, is not building championship women's basketball teams--it's building championship women. Whether in basketball after graduation or in the world at large, these women are prepared to take on anything that is thrown at them. Geno instills a sense of focus, team-first/me-last, and we MUST succeed. As Sue said, "Get better every day!" Congratulations, Geno and CD.

So good to see so many former players like Molly Bent, Azura Stevens. Taurasi's speech hit my heart. That mention of the talks in the driveway was so personal and heartfelt, Geno wept over it. Me too.

He's always had a special relationship with DT. I think it's obvious, and the fact that so many players had returned to celebrate coach and CD tells what coach /CD have built there. More than just wins/championships, etc. they gave these young women the skills to go out in the world and get it done. Somone in chat here said, proud father and I think that is spot on. I am born and raised in the great state of Connecticut ( til I was 26 and split) and am proud to say I bleed blue. Cograts Coach Geno and Coach CD.

He's been a extra great coach and had such great players and he taught them to play as a team just out standing

I didn't see Kara Wolters there but she was on TV talking about this event. She's the player I most identified with over the years - Big Girl #52 from the 1995 championship team. Outstanding player and brilliant analyst for the sport.

The Mt Rushmore of UConn Womens Basketball spoke (they probably would have had the five greatest but Stewie was not there). Disappointed that SNY did not have the studio guys at Gampel instead though. This was the one night to do it. Either that or they should have just given Wolters the night off. You can tell how much the big girl wanted to be at Gampel...

The amazing thing that is never talked about is how many more Championships UConn would have if not for all the injuries. Sue, Shea,Sveta, and some I’m forgetting, and more recently Katie Lou, Paige, Azzi and others. Conservatively, perhaps as many as 4 or 5. But, of course that is the nature of athletics and unfortunately women are prone to certain injuries.

There is a bond that binds all the UConn alumni together and it should be celebrated but Geno Auriemma and all the WNBA players and sports commentators need to stop putting down players that did not come through UConn.

Having stacked teams made his job easy. How about going to a team that doesn’t get the best recruits? See if he can make a winner out of them. Hey how about the NBA?
@FabrizioPati-i6f14 сағат бұрын
Name me a team that won a national title without the best recruits. And UConn's first Final Four was achieved without "best recruits". You climb on the glass to not recognize the merits of a program that brought and maintained women's basketball at a national level. Not alone, but while the supporting teams have come and gone over time, UConn has always been present

Ha how about those orther coaches who had over thousands wins.geno wanted one hundred percent from his players he got way more than that.thats what made UConn so great
@ad7711x13 сағат бұрын
He got there in 1985. He literally built the program. It took him 10 years to win his first title. He went to a team that was only in its 5th year of existence and never won 10 games.

It takes a special kind of coach to develop the already developed
