So About Mushoku Tensei Season 2...

Can we talk about the newest season of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless reincarnation??? Coming in as the second season to what was probably the best season 1 of any isakai ever would have been a hard challange for anyone but thankfully I do think Mushoku Tensei s2 pulled it off. Kinda.. In some aspects.. Okey well, it's complicated. Let's discuss it in the video!

The novels took a little more time to establish all the new characters. For example Rudy just talking with Linia and Pursena between classes. Having lunch with Julie, Zanoba and Badigadi. Having Badigadi talk to Rudy about physical enhancement. Rudy helping Nanahoshi out with her research. More runins with Cliff and Elinalise being all clingy as new couples tend to be. And most importantly, a bunch of skipped Sylphie POVs. Having said all that, it was still fast paced, even in the novels. The extra content is just there to make things feel more natural and less rushed.

That's really interesting to hear and I definitely would love to read more about it. I still stand by that we move a bit to quick for my liking. I really liked all the introduced elements but got really disappointed when they just got sidelined for something new each ep. But IG that's just a setup arc for ya

@@JinxedThoughts You're right it is all setup for the future. This is where Rudy spends the majority of his life from now on. And as such he remains acquainted with all the people he met this season, even after they move away from Ranoa. The novels are very much worth reading imo. Even if you've already watched the anime. There is a manga as well, but it's pacing is arguably even quicker than the anime, so it won't give you much additional information.

Great video 👌🏽 The pacing and the cut content definitely took a hit this season, the light novels literal deal with all of the problems this season. But still loved this season and can't wait for part 2 👌🏽

I wouldn’t say this season was poorly directed but clearly the storyboarding wasn’t well thought out. The school arc ran too long but at the same time didn’t build out the right parts while arc before school needed another episode.

I almost got dizzy by the speed the first chapters flash trough, and how much world building and character perspectives are missing, but it's still on the background. I'm a little sad about the downscaling of rudeus power respect to the books due to perspective, but overall, im satisfied with it, its too much to pack in 12 chapters. Novels recomended 100%

The whole school arc feels like is going through check list making sure every major plot point happens and leaving 90% of the details. Cliff, Linia, Pursena and Nanahoshi barely show after their dedicated episodes, while in the novels they were there all the time. I am sad they cut all of this out being this is my 2nd favorite part of the story to re-read

Jinxed, this wasn't the whole season 2. This was the first half of the season, setting things up. It's sort of like all the stuff happening in season 1 before the first Turning Point.

The pacing in the academy is actually completely intentional and if you pay attention as it goes on the stories develop more and more like your supposed so wonder about badigadi and youll eventually find out this is just something of a calm spot in the story and time for rudeus to grow

While I agree that there's more time needed to explore the characters, they do get touched on later in the story. Don't forget that THIS IS ONLY THE FIRST COUR AND NOT THE END OF THE SEASON. (we'll be getting cour 2 by April 2024) While it does feel like they're introducing the characters in the school arc too fast without developing much of each group, it actually works similarly in the LN in hindsight. The main difference is that the LN has an easier way of delivering Rudy's thoughts and implied actions of him and the other characters compared to the anime. The LN tells, but the anime shows. It can be better, but it already did a decent job. Also, they don't delve too much into each group of characters yet but do set up the relationship between Rudy and all of them and how they're connected. Just like irl usually, you juggle different relationships at the same time in different levels of speed. By the start of the second cour, we'll be going deeper into some of these relationships. It's a slow burner but the weight of the relationship pays off ONLY when the passage of time is considered.

I feel the LN only get more detailed and some really long I feel the pace of 3 ep a book just cant keep up at this rate so much is rushed or cut it feels compared to season 1. I get and know where they want to end the whole of season 2 and it kinda sucks that I feel a lot will be cut bec of that.

The problems of s2 were there in the original material. This is a giant set-up season, and you can have the great worldbuilding if you don't have the characters first. And yes. Fitz can be annoying if you don't like the secrecy trope. It was already annoying in the web novel too.

Very spot on review! I totally agree with your comment on the pacing being bad, fr it felt so rushed throughout the 1st cour. I find the part about the Demon King especially troubling, they ( anime team ) made him pop out of nowhere cutting out many crucial info from the novel, like how Elinalise was the one who informed him via a letter and all. Anyways, great video 👍

I think all your complaints will literally be solved without a damn cour split. I wish people don't judge Mushoku through cour 1 alone. Because cour 2 is why cour 1 had to happen. I am not joking when I say that this cour is more important than a lot of episodes of season 1. But I think it's best rewatched to see wtf we're on about after cour 2 or future seasons.

I mean overall I still think that it's good and I get that this is all set up for later. But I do still think that a full batch of 12 episodes deserves to be judged by its own merits and not just what it does for the future

​@@JinxedThoughts I do not know what to think about that, if it's fair or not. Being readers, we can just skip to another volume to see where each thread leads. This is where the author just plants so many seeds and balance them all throughout the story. But, I do think there's a version where these first 12 episodes is 10x better. That's if they follow the light novel which explored each and every character here. It also kept the Fitts reveal a mystery, so we focus more on the students around Rudeus and the role they might play. Rudeus even had this eerie moment of almost becoming a bully after Pursena and Linia's kidnapping and after the ego boost he had from defeating Badigadi, but he had a monologue stopping himself from choosing the path because it was the path his bullies took. There's also an entire magic system that only Rudeus couldn't use, essentially nerfing him, and Badigadi is supposed to give this information but they cut it all out for some reason. We also know more about each of the characters here, but always in bits and pieces. In the anime, Cliff, for example, is a good example. People expected him to be this rival of Rudeus, but he's more complicated than that. Zanoba too seemed comedic relief who thinks of nothing but dolls but then suddenly he named Julie with a name his brother had, the brother he killed. In the light novel, there's loads of this. These aren't just school mates; they are deeper characters. TLDR, light novel good

For your complaint that some characters werent flushed out enough or need more exposure, you must wait, you will learn about badigadi in future seasons, nanahoshi gets flushed out, zanoba and julie ger flushed out, its excellent, understand were introducing and reintroducing charscters this season, Id be weird if we just exposition dumped everything about them on day one leaving nothing to the imagination right
