The Soviet Union was one of the countries that welcomed the birth of Indonesia as an independent country and the Soviet Union condemned all forms of colonialism. Indonesian independence fighters expected support and assistance from the Soviet Union. At the United Nations (UN) the Soviet Union repeatedly raised the issue of Indonesia and demanded that the UN stop Dutch military aggression, and called on the international community to recognise Indonesia as an independent state.
During the years 1956-1962, Indonesia had a close relationship with the Soviet Union, which was reflected in the frequent visits between the two heads of state. The Soviet Union played a significant role in the liberation of West Irian, as President Soekarno aimed to eliminate all remnants of Dutch colonialism. In 1952, the Netherlands unilaterally incorporated West Irian into its territory, while Indonesia considered it to be part of its own state. To avoid engaging in open warfare with the Netherlands, Indonesia needed a strong military force with advanced equipment. They explored the option of obtaining military equipment from both the United States and the Soviet Union. Despite previous attempts to procure from the US failing due to the Netherlands being their ally, Indonesia received a positive response from the Soviet Union. In late 1960, a contract was signed for the procurement of military equipment, which was delivered to Indonesia in early 1962. This strengthened the Indonesian Armed Forces and allowed for the peaceful resolution of the West Irian issue, resulting in its return to Indonesia.

Uni Soviet merupakan salah satu negara yang menyambut baik lahirnya Indonesia sebagai negara merdeka dan Uni Soviet mengutuk segala bentuk kolonialisme. Pejuang kemerdekaan Indonesia mengharapkan dukungan dan bantuan dari Uni Soviet. Di Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa (PBB) Uni Soviet berulang kali mengangkat isu Indonesia dan menuntut agar PBB menghentikan agresi militer Belanda, serta menyerukan masyarakat internasional untuk mengakui Indonesia sebagai negara merdeka. Pada tahun 1956-1962, Indonesia mempunyai hubungan dekat dengan Uni Soviet yang tercermin dari seringnya kunjungan kedua kepala negara. Uni Soviet memainkan peran penting dalam pembebasan Irian Barat, karena Presiden Soekarno bertujuan untuk melenyapkan seluruh sisa-sisa kolonialisme Belanda. Pada tahun 1952, Belanda secara sepihak memasukkan Irian Barat ke dalam wilayahnya, sedangkan Indonesia menganggapnya sebagai bagian dari negaranya sendiri. Untuk menghindari perang terbuka dengan Belanda, Indonesia memerlukan kekuatan militer yang kuat dan peralatan yang canggih. Mereka menjajaki opsi untuk memperoleh peralatan militer dari Amerika Serikat dan Uni Soviet. Meski sebelumnya upaya pengadaan dari AS gagal karena Belanda menjadi sekutunya, Indonesia mendapat respons positif dari Uni Soviet. Pada akhir tahun 1960, sebuah kontrak ditandatangani untuk pengadaan peralatan militer, yang dikirimkan ke Indonesia pada awal tahun 1962. Kontrak ini memperkuat Angkatan Bersenjata Indonesia dan memungkinkan penyelesaian masalah Irian Barat secara damai, sehingga Irian Barat dapat kembali menjadi bagian dari Indonesia. Netherlands did get Irian Jaya aka Papua Barat at this timeline, then he might have get some news on Indonesia gettting relations with USSR for economic reasons. For that timeline, this is probably related to how in 0:47 The USSR suported Indonesia and recognize him as a country, unlike the Netherlands who still sees Indonesia as not a recognized country for the Netherlands. In 0:52, Indonesia and the USSR started to build a relation according to the economy and their government, it also explains these two traveled to each other's countries just from a simple friendship 0:38 0:56 Apparently, that was a bit until the USSR planned to give Indonesia weapons and supplies a little too much for Indonesia, I bet USSR kept forcing himself to do those stuff, while Indonesia in 0:58 has informed that there might be a communist movement if the USSR kept their relationship leveling up just to make Indonesia a communist (?). I suggest it is because Indonesia was aware of what America might react as in the US will always be involved/involving themselves. But then in 0:40, it happens that Indonesia did agree on letting the USSR give the weapons and artilleries to him even until Operation Trikora came.
