This was actually hilarious!! Somehow they managed to turn zombies into objects of comedy. Was cracking up the whole way through. Loved it!

I recommend "Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil" it's another horror comedy. It may not be on the same level as Shaun of the Dead but it's still fun and funny. It's a much lower budget film but still done well.

"I feel like the humor is so simple and so witty that it's so much funnier than it should be..." What's so brilliant about this movie is that the humor is _not_ simple, but it *is* so witty that it still works on a simple level. You picked up on the second by second reshoot of Shaun's walk to the store on the morning after the outbreak vs. before it, but if you go back and watch again you'll see that Shaun's comments the first time perfectly predict what will happen on his second walk. Numerous subtle lines and actions in the background (beyond the man eating the pigeon) that clue the audience in to what's happening (and even possibly what caused it) while the characters remain oblivious. And *soooo* many callbacks and payoffs throughout the run time. Plus of course the rather obvious point that slow-moving zombies would *NOT* actually be much of a threat, even en masse, which other movies in the genre brush aside but which _Shaun of the Dead_ leans fully into while still maintaining the suspense by way of audience expectations combined by the sheer stupidity of some of the characters (which is in itself yet another trope of horror movies in general). In much the same way that _Mad Max_ perfected the post-apocalyptic film & _Lethal Weapon_ the buddy cop genre, _Shaun of the Dead_ is the *perfect* horror/comedy movie. There are plenty of others which are very, very good, but with all due respect to _Cabin in the Woods_ and _Tucker & Dale vs. Evil_ none of them surpass what this picture achieves. To say nothing of the actual heartfelt moments sprinkled into the second half of it.

@@thecocoacouch The easter egg about that line is if you watch the film Night of the Living Dead from 1968 (which I believe is public domain, no copyright), the first line of the film is "they're coming to get you, Barbara!" Night of the Living Dead isn't the first Zombie film, but it really helped turn zombie flicks into message movies instead of monster movies, as you saw here (and it is done in many other zombie movies), people were acting like zombies before they became zombies. A lot of these movies are about consumerism, but Shaun is more of a character piece (which is also similar in theme to the 3rd Cornetto film The World's End).

This film is not only one big payoff after brilliant payoff, it makes legit references to past zombie movies and directors that inspired them. It's an homage piece...one of the best. As the first of the coroneto trilogy Shaun of the Dead is highly rewatchable, as is Hot Fuzz...you see so many things you missed. They are instant classics. ❤️

Shaun: “David kill the Queen!” David: “What?!” Shaun: “The Jukebox!!!” That scene had me rolling the first time I saw it. This movie is a great horror/comedy. Nick and Simon have such great chemistry and I love the films they do together lol

Okay, if you liked this movie, you have to watch Tucker & Dale vs Evil. Hilarious movie and somewhat along the same lines as Shaun of the Dead, but American. Still, made me laugh out loud like this one, and so unexpectedly funny.

It was a very intelligent, thought out film. Simon Pegg is amazing. “PAUL” is better. It’s the two of them on their dream trip to America. I won’t say anymore than that! Give it a watch!!

One of my favorite films, with my favorite actors and director! The asshat David is played by Dylan Moran, an absolutely brilliant Irish standup comedian. I'd never heard of him before this movie, but I watched the cast commentary and he was so hilarious that I looked into his standup. If you enjoy that sort of thing, I can't recommend him enough.

Theres an episode in his earlier comedy sitcom Spaced that features a bit with Resident Evil in, thats where he got the idea for this film from, also Spaced stars the lady he keeps bumping into in this.

I recommend some older British comedy classics, in particular, Lady Killers (1957) it's a caper film starring Alec Guinness, Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom as crooks using an unsuspecting old lady to move their loot, the old Lady is real star, Katie Johnson who had been acting since the 1890s in small roles got in one award winning kead role a couple of years before she died, she is sublime. The other is Kind Hearts and Corronets, the blackest of comedies in which Denis Price murders his way to a dukedom, with Alec Guinness playing all 8 of the family members in his way, its a film with dialogue worthy of Oscar Wilde and the scenes between Price and Joan Greenwood ouse with passion. Both these comedies from the Earling studios are critically ranked as among the very best British films.

Loved her on Downton Abbey. I got my step-brother hooked on that show even though he only watches action movies, horror films, and generally shows disdain for anything he thinks is a "chick flick" so yeah not the most open minded of people. I just happen to be watching it when he came over and he sat down eyes glued to the tv. He ended up binging the show.

I highly recommend "Train to Busan" It's the best zombie film I have ever seen. It's from South Korea with subtitles but easy to follow and incredibly intense. It incorporates themes of distrust, xenophobia, socioeconomic class status, family dysfunction and love. It also has perhaps the best child actress in any film I have ever seen. Lastly, it's the ONLY zombie movie that'll make you cry, actually you'll bawl your eyes out. It is OUTSTANDING! Enjoy!
