You are soooo lucky that you didn't hit the kaizo block after the cloud section :P I had a much easier time with the cloud section though -- you can actually do it running at full speed. Anyway, I had a thing for moles before Poo's level. They just felt like a fun enemy to use to troll people. Your videos are awesome man, hope you get many more subscribers! :D

haha, crazy thing though.. i just watched Carl's playthrough of the level. there were hidden blocks in the next room where you bounce off the one lakitu spikey cloud. i missed it by a hair, and the mushroom may have saved me from hitting it.

For the cloud - I imagine when the cloud is at a 30~degree angle to you, floating behind you still (about 3blocks behind); move right, and this will push the cloud forward, since it is lagging behind yo (roughly 3-4 squares) it should push the cloud under you or 1-2 blocks ahead for the jump!

What I learned from Carl's 100 Mario challenge. Carl has a distaste for Moles. Poo now has a distaste for Random Numbers Generated stuff. As you saw the every enemy was randomly generated.

I like how I watched Carl and Grand Poobear play these levels a few weeks ago and now get a new perspective on them when I don't quite remember the level.

the clouds act weird, because they dont correspond with the grid that blocks use. each cloud is locked to two coordinates on your screen, not in the in-game world. imagine the clouds against a black background with no mario, no blocks, nothing. they just move side to side endlessly, and they move at different speeds. they will always keep their own patterns indefinitely. this pattern doesnt care about the level youre in or if youre moving or standing still. they will go back and forth between their coordinates on your screen. now you can use this to your advantage because each cloud has its own period, or the time it takes for the cloud to get from one point, do a whole loop, and end up in its initial starting position and velocity. for example, one cloud could have a period of one second. it starts at point A, moves to point B, and moves back to point A in exactly one second. the next cloud could have a period of 1.2 seconds, and the third with a period of 1.3 seconds. these numbers are arbitrary, its just this pattern that stays the same. now if you choose this point to be in the center of your screen, you can now reliably count on cloud 1, 2, or 3 to be under your feet (assuming youre not at the start of the level or the end of the level where the camera doesnt pan) exactly every second, every 1.2 seconds, and every 1.3 seconds. marios velocity is completely irrelevant, just so long as you have mario lined up with the horizontal axis when a cloud hits that axis as well

actually, i just learned something i didnt know about it, at 19:29, it seems to actually take marios velocity into account slightly. the cloud must not actually be coded to a specific timing, but rather has a dynamic velocity that takes marios velocity and adds some number i dont know to it, and also gives it an acceleration parameter to it as well. that doesnt really change anything about it, it still moves from point A to point B on your screen, except on the extreme, when marios velocity abruptly hits 0. the equation for the clouds velocity for a split second reads 0, then in the 0.5 second acceleration time or whatever number they have, gets right back up to speed. the coding is a bit more complex to reach the same goal as a point A to point B period equation would be

I mean, it seems to me that the clouds move relative to mario. Which is to say that they move at a constant speed, plus marios's. This essentially means that marios speed, relative to the cloud, can be treated as 0 at any given time. Just my opinion.

From what I've seen here, the clouds change pattern after a while, first its from top to bottom skipping the middle one, then the bottom one speeds up or lines up with the middle one and you have to wing it slowly, this is a great level.

Clouds are moving relative to Mario. So you'll get them under you at the same moments regardless of how you move horizonatally. So, write off horizontal swerving when timing bounces: calculate bounce moments as if you were falling straight down.

Enemies in clouds follow the camera. So Mario can't aim himself at them. All he can do is time his landing for when the cloud moves itself under him. So you can move forward as fast as you want. You only need to control your jump height so you're coming down when one of the clouds is under you.

Carl actually didn't have too much trouble with the Cloud Spiney section. He found a pattern in which he could essentially hold right and alternate jump heights to get to the end. He had far more trouble with the Mole room, in part due to RNG dictating the timing at which they spawn. He also had a bit of trouble with the Blooper Totem section for its semi-RNG movement combined with Kaizo blocks above every single arrow pointing down at the top.

Every room had an RNG factor. Yoshi and mole rooms had pipe generators, stack room had bloopers, and cloud room had bowser fire. Still, THAT ENDING! I had a freaking heart attack WATCHING, just think if someone panicked and fell in the hole part, that was so evil!

To me, it seems that clouds have a very simple movement pattern. The gimmick that makes them so difficult to predict is that their movement pattern is relative to the viewport, rather than an x-position in the game. So they move very simply back and forth, but when Mario moves and the screen scrolls, they appear to accelerate because you are judging their movement based on the game world, when really they are just still moving towards the right edge of the screen, independent of the scrolling. However it is able to be influenced, although not in a necessarily beneficial way. For example, if it's moving left and Mario is standing still, if you anticipate the cloud changing direction and then immediately start moving left, it will still register as needing to change direction, so you can sort of make it change direction prematurely if you need to move in a certain direction while it's happening.

The cloud pattern is like a pendulum with you as its reference point, but this pendulum pattern only works when it's going away from you when it's goin closer to you his movement (relative speed while coming at you) is not affected by your position.

It's been a few months when Carl was forced to play a level dedicated to moles on super expert (not sure about that, since i saw that around summer or so), where he failed so many times, that he was close going crazy. Since then the "mole must die" theme is part of his commentary, whenever he sees a mole level. The mole room was just a poke from poo cheerishing Carl's hate about moles. The hate for moles and the idea of making a mole themed level was born way before those two levels between Carl and poo

The cloud always occupies the same spot on the screen. Your jump should plan for the fact that the cloud will need to be in the center when Mario falls on it

the weird thing is, the clouds have an actual AI that is easy to predict. they stay on the same path on the screen even when the screen moves. so as long as you jump at a time when the cloud would appear under you when your not moving then you should be able to land on it
