This is a wet DCT not a dry. The DCT will be just fine. No warnings on the transmission. People complain about the price of these cars but the Mercedes doesn't say overheating transmission while doing this like some other cars with DCTs did. Mercedes tests these off road during development. They know what's what.

DCT and CVT let's so many little cars down off road where they would actually do pretty good

The GLE can be a hard core off roader. During development Mercedes tested it on the same off road track as the G Wagon. They test the gla off road too but not the G Wagon one. So it'll still be relatively great as shown.

Excellent test and review! Do you turn the AC off when climbing the Tombstone Hill? The camera showing the gauges is very informative! Maybe adding a camera showing the cockpit when off-roading?

How about doing this test with the more mainstream AWD vehicles people buy, like the Ford Escape, Edge, Explorer, Chevy Blazer, Traverse etc. Not that those owners will ever take them off road but it's nice to see how well the different AWD systems work.

I will say this, it did better I expected it too. I honestly was fully expecting to see body parts or transmission pieces all over the trail. I'd still have a jeep over this, but it didn't do awful.

It’s a great review. I have gla myself thinking of driving it on the beach .... what do you think ? Someone told me I have to let some air out from the tire . How true is this? I have all seasoned tire , 19 inch .

Yes, you have to let air out of your tires, about half of it. Take an air compressor and a shovel.

@@rockymountboy the AWD system would refer to the 4matic system, being the sensors, diffs, engine management. It looks like just about e dry dual clutch gearbox behaves the way seen in this video, I'd actually say this allowed more slip and went further than any DCT shown so far. The awd system itself is fine, just being let down by the gearbox Can't beat a torque converter auto, or manual gearbox with appropriate low range transfer case

When it's hot, fans go on. Also the DCTs are not dry. They run in fluid. It's much better. They've never had issues with their DCTs. They won't have it now.

Not the kind of vehicle or the kind of person that would go even slightly off roading with this vehicle. Not sure the point? It's an expensive Mercedes that has no skid plates and wasn't really built to do this regardless of it's "offroad" setting. "The transmission is trying, trying, trying...." Time for an expensive service appoint to change that $1000 fluid that got all burned up.... Maybe I'm not so wealthy that I would buy one of these, expect near perfect workmanship on the panels and flawless paint expectations to take it out and sling rocks and gravel on it with tire slip. I just don't get it.
