So did I BLOW my OEM Turbo? - CONCLUSION // 10th Gen Honda Accord

What are the symptoms / signs of a blown turbo? What are the leading causes of turbo failure? With all the performance testing we've done with our Honda Accord project car, including hundreds of DYNO pulls testing various performance modifications, 1/4 mile track testing, 0-60mph tests, etc., it's no wonder our Honda Accord OEM turbo was making noises! Was it just too much stress for the small OEM Accord turbo to take, is the high-elevation of Denver, CO, forcing the Accord OEM turbo to work too hard, overspinning the turbo, resulting in turbo damaging shaft play? Have I blown the Honda Accord's turbo? This video is a follow-up to in which I reveal whether my Honda Accord stock turbo is blown, or was the noises I heard a result of another problem? Oh, and while we're at it, let's find out the size of the Honda Accord OEM turbocharger - how big is the Honda turbo's compressor wheel and turbine wheel? The noise could be the mishimoto catch can bracket vibrating. In my car it makes a rattling noise when I hit boost.

Love the videos it’s the highlight of my day getting off work and seeing one these fresh uploads! I might be way off base noise could be your downpipe? I’ve heard of bolts coming loose (not specifically on the accord) causing an exhaust resonance.

I don’t think it’s the downpipe as I had to remove and reinstall it as part of the Kuro turbo install.

Good chance this wont happen to someone who just run it normally. I personally know of hundreds of accords tuned EXACTLY like this with no issue. But they dont track/dyno it for videos constantly.

If you get a chance you are to talk about how Honda dropped the ball on the 2023 Honda accords! Not only can you no longer get to k20c AKA 2.0 but in their infinite wisdom they decided to get rid of the ten-speed and it's all cvts across-the-board. Cannot tune them without grenading the CVT transmission away to go Honda what a slap in the face. Maybe it'll be like the the 86 87 GN not as limited but still a sleeper

Their Target demographic is the 1.5 CVT they said it was five to one every k20c AKA 2.0 they would sell so they saw no reason to bring the 2.0 with the 10-speed they decided to bless their patrons with a CvT unbelievable on exciting unimaginable. Buick get there same thing what their 87 g n x but unlike Buick Honda will recover because they make a quality product

Hey Chad, The second/current problem you mentioned that your still having it sounds to be similar to what im experiencing. When i build boost around 15 psi on my stock turbo with stock tune I also hear a rattle/dense loose metal sound I’m not sure what it is but sounds like the same issue i’m having. It could be the waste gate i’m thinking but i’m not too sure, It would be great to know the answer to this problem. Thanks again for the video

Does one have to worry about shutting down your turbo motor right away instead of letting it idle a few minutes? That sounds a bit like old school reasoning. Aren’t the newer turbos on our later model cars cooled differently? I was reading your article from Garrett.

Although the use of turbo timers are not required as they once were, it’s still good practice to wait until your engine is warmed up before driving aggressively, and to NOT immediately turn your car off after same. An easy last half mile drive, or a moment or two wait should be sufficient 👍

I also have a rattle when going into boost and can’t figure out what it is. Super annoying cause you can hear it in the exhaust. I hope it’s the same issue you have and you figure out a fix for it

2:01 when my turbo blew there were no lights that came on the dash at all basically sounded like a supercharger and a bunch of smoke coming out my tailpipe and then I knew it was turbo related

So that resignation noise... Did it happen after you upgraded your intercooler..... If you did upgrade the intercooler that is lol.... If so Im a tech at Honda and some of the guys with aftermarket intercoolers the rubber boost pipe needs to be clocked down a bit and re-tightened.... Could be that 🤷🏽‍♂️

Hey I have a 2019 2.0t and when I accelerate it gives this loud windy noise and as I give more gas it gets louder.. I have a check engine light, loss power, and stuttering but not smoke. I was thinking the turbo but you’ve made me change my mind abit. Does anyone else have this problem

Most failures are caused by the three 'turbo killers' of oil starvation, oil contamination and foreign object damage. More than 90% of turbocharger failures are caused oil related either by oil starvation or oil contamination. Blocked or leaking pipes or lack of priming on fitting usually causes oil starvation.

Great vlog as always! But can you go over the k count numbers more because my car is .49 driving around but when I get on it it goes to 0.53 two 0.58 and then back down to 0.49 when it's out of stock can you let me know if that is normal
