4:14 The C4 fuel system has a higher capacity and more power potential, than on the C1. Yes, that means, and has resulted in, higher power limit on the Accord with a CTR turbo installed on it than a CTR with the factory CTR turbo. Pretty crazy, right? Other than that fact, the rest of the info on the fuel system, you got pretty much correct.
@copperkeyracing6167 Жыл бұрын
@@isaaca.7732 If you want more than 370whp, then yes. The CTR maxxes out at 360whp, and the Accord at 370whp. If you want more, Hondata has a fuel system upgrade for $4000.... you can easily buy the doppleganger to the CTR, which came out 10years prior to the fk8 CTR for that amount, and mod it for much less than a CTR/Accord, and the limit on it's fuel system is 400whp. Same weight, same hp stock with an intake, as a CTR. It's the 07-09 Mazdaspeed3. Very reliable, easy to make, hp gains. About $4k for the car, about $4k in mods, gets you 400whp. Add in some exterior enhancements for about $2k and you easily have a built not bought, aggressive looking, performance 4-door hatch for cheap. I've owned, modded, and tuned all 3 cars, and the Mazdaspeed3 is an absolute bargain up to 400whp! After that, all 3 cars get expensive to mod further, and better to move on to another platform/car.
@copperkeyracing61679 ай бұрын
@quicktoreason2722 The RSX-S k20a2 can handle more power with pistons that were never made to handle boost (up to 600whp daily, or 720whp all out). The pistons are better because they were made for boost? Really? How much better? Are they forged? No! They can't handle what a k20a2 can. The k20a out of the ITR actually handles less than a k20a2 because it is 0.5 more compression. Shape design of the piston is just one component of many. In other motors, like the Mazdaspeed3, the piston shape design was also changed, but for the 2nd gen. It was supposed to handle more abuse, but the results were the same. It's not one component that matters, like the piston shape, but overall, what can it handle. The k20C4 and K20C1 can handle the same. My theory is that the shape design is only there to mitigate the effects of carbon buildup or carbon buildup itself... and then, it doesn't make a difference because carbon buildup will always still occur, and you still need to run a bottle of cleaner through the induction tract every 3k miles anyway. When they designed the engine, and pistons in particular, they can't predict the carbon buildup and how to mitigate it, they can only theorize, and then wait for the engines to blowup once on the market. Hence why it's taken decades to perfect the mitigation of carbon buildup, and they are making improvements, but carbon buildup is far from being mitigated entirely, and having to run cleaner through a direct injection engine will always be needed... so far... The promise was that direct injection ran cleaner and safer for the environment, but instead, what has been happening is that instead of burning all byproducts, they are being deposited and then having buildup. Piston shape design is not a major difference in handling boost, but rather for mitigating carbon buildup and its effects... and yes, I am an engineer, and I design these things for a living.

@quicktoreason2722 The reason Ariel Atom chose the C1 over the C4 is because Honda sells the C1 to anyone, not the C4. In other words, it's the same thing in Ariel Atoms' perspective. They just needed a factory turbo'ed Honda motor to try out... and guess what? They offer it with less hp than the turbocharged NA motor they offer, the k24Z7 (out of a Civic Si), 321bhp vs 365bhp. The Ariel atom also used plenty of other non-turbo kseries motors, which they then added a turbocharger or supercharger to, including the K24z7 (NA or turbocharged), K20z4 (NA or supercharged), and some say the K20A was used, although who knows what flavor of K20A, could have been any one of them (K20A2, K20A3, or K20A). In JDM Honda motors, the last digit to differentiate motors is dropped, and you nevet know till you remove the valvecover and inspect it.
@copperkeyracing61679 ай бұрын
@quicktoreason2722 Your bar is very low if the k20C1 is the best or 2nd best Honda Engine. The K20A2 was by far the best, and having to incorporate emmissions into the k20c1 has added smaller ports and a step before the valve, which causes immense restriction (remove that step and flow increases nearly 50%). Then, there is the "headifold" which restricted the use of any aftermarket turbo manifold, which is bigger. And finally, direct injection may promise improvements to fuel economy and emmisions (which it doesn't), it also causes a problem in making power because it's $4k for an upgraded fuel system (from Hondata) and even then you still haven't added back the port injection that you seriously need for serious power. Due to all this, it will likely never be possible to overcome 1000whp on the k20C1, whereas on the K20A2 type engines, they are near 2000whp in the aftermarket. It's all for emmissions. For the 2nd best Honda engine, well that would be the bseries. For a stock or mildly modded engine, the k20c1 is not bad... but the Mazdaspeed3, which Honda clearly copied the formula from, is also a great engine (making near 400whp with boltons vs near 450whp with boltons in the k20c1), but the chassis is 10yrs older than the fk8 with no trick dual axis front suspension (which they should have taken from Ford, but that would be biting the hand that feeds you, because it would be taking from the FWD Focus RS). So, if you say the k20c1 is up there with the greats, then the L23-VDT in the MS3 is right with it.
@copperkeyracing61679 ай бұрын
@quicktoreason2722 it's a good honda motor, sure, but not the top or in the top 2. Any tuner will tell you your motor is great, because it is, and they want your business. Hondata wouldn't support the platform if it wasn't.

I'm just wondering, on both engines, where is the water pump? Is it driven by the timing chain, or by the external belt? Thanks

Isn't the brake booster electric?
@HoweDoYouDo19993 жыл бұрын
I thought it would be an explosive difference. But, no. Honda just dumbed down the blast on the C4. 😂
