Just enough detail to make sense and learn! What should an owner do who used to live in Charleston as a primary residence but had since moved to another area and turned the home into a rental? Does the applicable County automatically see that and adjust your rate?

I can't imagine that the county would know unless you told them. I have heard about mail getting bounced back to the county and them finding out that way.

Great information. I definitely plan on having a tax professional on my side. Who else should I have on my side once I own? Preferably someone on the real estate side that I can hire for consultation.

It all depends what your aims are! If you own just a primary residence, it's unlikely you need to retain a tax or real estate professional since it's not too complicated. If it makes your tax returns easier, maybe just go to a local tax service and pay them ~$200 to file your return for you. I have ten rentals so I have a CPA and two attorneys that I can call whenever I need to. It's all about what makes the most sense for your situation. Give me a call if you'd like to chat more! Just saw that automatic increase in our taxes. Why does it take them 3 years to see the sale?

My husband is US citizens, we are married, he owns house and are resident in SC for 3 years, I am applying for asylum and because I am not a resident, our property tax is $5000, instead of $1300 . That is really crazy.

He forgot to include that property taxes are more for non resident owners than resident owners.
