It can still be used for both. For example, take barbell for example. One person can use it for bench and the other for rows. It works 2 different muscles(the chest and back) but with both it also works the shoulders and triceps. So, chest and back is like God and someone you love, the shoulders and triceps is the love and the barbell could be the song. Was a stupid example but i think it gets the message out

The way I see it, it doesn't matter if this is a christian band and the song and lyrics describes someone's feelings towards god. I'm atheist and I respect peoples opinions so yes of course you can interpret the lyrics however you want, personally though, I use these lyrics to relate to a relationship from a couple of years ago. I'm not trying to start a debate, I'm just saying that no matter how the original writer meant by the lyrics, you should interpret them in your own way. That's the beauty of music!
