Everyone has so many experience with losing weight here. I just wanted to jump in and say, sleep is imperative. Many women don't sleep well after menopause. I am a retired nurse, 64 years old and avid yoga student and teacher. Food, exercise is great. Food elimination if it hurts you BUT slowing down, breathing, stretching and releasing tension are so helpful. Do what you need to do BUT please incorporate mindful practices. Yoga, massage, meditation and stretching. You are worth it ladies

Bless your heart that you are comfortable enough to wear a bikini. I am 58 and I am a size 0 to a size 2 and I wouldn’t wear a bikini if my life depended on it. Things just don’t stay in the same place anymore. I had 3 sons and with each pregnancy I gained over 75 pounds so my stomach had so many stretch marks it’s crazy. One of my good girlfriends recently said to me why don’t you just get a tummy tuck, and I told her that I am not putting myself through that not mention the expense. Look into Keto ! I'm 62 & have been doing it for 5 years as of this Summer. I am a retired dietitian & Keto is literally the opposite of everything I was taught in college AND reinforced by the medical establishment (there is a very good reason for this - it keeps you unhealthy & them rich) My weight & overall well-being have never been more stable. Take some time to study it first. While it may not be suitable for everybody it can be tweaked to meet your own needs, habits & tastes. As far as exercise goes all your body needs is regular movement. A simple 20-30 minute daily walk works wonders. All the luck to you !

December my cholesterol went really high and my husband and I both went on a higher protein, low carb (Not no carb) intermittent fasting diet. Portion control and not being hard on myself. From 180 to 165 in 3 months and cholesterol down almost 150 points. Thyroid and menopause doesn’t help. Workouts to start soon.

Glad you found the issue. I am turning 67, and at the age of 52, went through a similar situation. Was never heavy, but all of a sudden nothing I did helped. Was tired all the time, no motivation or energy. I knew to ask for a thyroid panel, since thyroid issues run in my family. I went to a GP, who then sent me to an endro. Both said nothing wrong with thyroid. I kept feeling worse as time went on, and adding pounds. Went to a few more doctors and had more labs done. Finally, after turning 58, went to functional doctor. Not only was I hypo, I had 3 nodules (she had my do x rays of thyroid), and have Hashimoto's. Come to find out the doctors prior went by TSH, and never tested or looked at the other levels. It took me a while to find the medication that helped. I am now on Armour, do low carb keto, no grains (due to celiac). I have since learned how to interpret my own lab results and know where I feel my best when it comes to Free T3 & free T4 levels. Most doctors treat by FSH, and ignore all the other signs. I have come to realize as we age tweaking of medication and or dose is needed. I would love to know what supplements you were put on, I take a few.

Hi Kimberly, What has worked for me is counting calories. You have to be consistent and not ‘cheat.’ A few months of counting calories can make a huge difference in weight management. I have also started including a hearty soup in my meal choices. A huge Ceaser Salad with almond-coated chicken pieces and Ceaser dressing (small amount) is one of my favorites. I hear you, I feel you! I am 67, a former fitness professional and diagnosed about 12 years ago with Hashimoto’s! I was so sick and had gained over 45 pounds with so many symptoms. I started reading everything and doing so much research on diets, medications, nutrition deficiencies and supplements! It literally became my job! A functional doctor was part of my healing journey! I appreciate and applaud your efforts in trying to find your way back to health and fitness and not giving up! I knew what to do from a fitness stand point…..focus on strength training with progressive overload and get some cardiovascular training like walking! Be consistent! Please let me gently correct a misunderstanding with respect to muscle weighing more than fat….not true!!! What I use to say to my clients…. 5 pounds of muscle is the same weight as 5 pounds of fat however, the difference is how 5 lbs of muscle looks on a body versus 5 lbs of fat…. (Think of a 5 lbs dumbbell versus 5 lbs can of Crisco shortening….dense vs fluffy). Educating myself on Hashimoto’s and being my own medical advocate was essential to getting my health back! For me getting the right thyroid medication and dosage was very important to healing and diet also played a key role! I take a natural desiccated thyroid medication and follow an autoimmune paleo diet (AIP). There have been a few hiccups and setbacks like breast cancer and bilateral mastectomy however, the only way to go is forward!!!! You are smart, willing to learn and you will get there! I will be your biggest cheerleader!

Hi Kimberley you look amazing, your skin is glowing so you're doing something right!! Please give tips about giving up dairy successfully. The best tip someone gave me when I was 154lbs, eat healthy meals: breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and evening meal like a pauper no later than 6pm, if I hadn't eaten before 6pm I had to wait until breakfast the next day. I gradually lost weight until I was 112lbs, ideal weight for my 5'6" body. I believe the best way to be successful is stop going on diets, instead change ones lifestyle, stop eating and drinking junk, get your body healthy first then your mind will be healthy to make you more determined to do the things you want to do. Incidentally I'm in my 70s. It won't be a quick fix but a long lasting healthier life.

Was there a typo for your ideal weight? Ideal weight for someone of your 5'6" height, assuming medium female build is approximately 160lbs. Unless you are a verypetite 5'-5'2" , 112lbs would be severely underweight.

@@MGSpecial2023 no typo, thank you for your concern. I'm even 7lbs lighter after my brother and Mum died within a month of each other. I was obese when 154lbs, now I'm a slim UK size 10 think that's a US size 6?

Great video Kimberly! You mentioned that you ate the "right" foods. However, one can gain weight or not lose weight despite eating healthy if they are in a calorie surplus. I ate whole foods, exercised and strength trained for over a year and my weight did not budge. I tried everything, including fasting, keto and giving up sugar. Only when I reduced my caloric intake each day by 20-25% did I finally see steady weight loss (fat loss). When I started logging my food each day, I was shocked to discover how many calories I was actually eating. I was under the impression that if I ate right and exercised that the weight would come off naturally. Eating healthy, of course, is the way to go, as well as strength training. However, a calorie deficit is still necessary to see the scale move in the right direction. Food for thought...No pun intended.. God Bless.

For us older ladies, it's more about hormones than calories in calories out...I believed that until I turned 60 and lost a son...all that stress and keto screwed up me and my metabolism and hormones even more! I had a perfect storm...still cannot correct it
@fitnessgal Жыл бұрын
@@debiwillis9045 I agree that an insurmountable amount of stress will certainly reek havoc on the body. However, I'm an older gal, as well (61) and only when I started tracking my daily calories did I realize I was actually eating in a surplus. Once I reduced them, I started losing weight (fat). The keto diet caused issues with my hormones. I just eat whole foods now...similar to the Mediterranean diet.. God Bless...

I feel your pain. Ive found at 63, I just can’t eat simple carbs and maintain my weight. That means no bread, pasta, potatoes, rice. Nothing white. Only veggies, meats, healthy fats. Desserts are a rare treat. I only eat two meals a day. No snacks. Oh, and I don’t drink alcohol.

Oh dear that sounds like a boring diet! I love my glass of wine at night and love my carbs. I don't know how you have the self discipline. Amazing!

Thank you for this video. I'm 5'6", 61 years old and had gained 20 lbs over the last 3 years - pandemic 10 lbs, and a broken foot another 10. My body is STUCK on 180. I'm on thyroid meds, and have an amazing endocrinologist, but have noticed dairy has not been my friend. I'm going to try giving it up completely, and doing IF more consistently. I want to add in weights, because losing inches is more important to me than a number on a scale. I will look into Connie, and perhaps hire her as well. It's past time to get healthy.

Thank you so much for sharing. I totally understand I am sixty three and I have a low thyroid. I Have been able to maintain a good weight in fact in the last year I've lost almost twenty pounds and not quite sure why the doctors say i'm healthy and everything is fine. It is a constant routine that you have to do though to keep in good shape as we get older. I haven't been able to lift weights because if you have ever watched any of my videos, I broke my arm march seventh and had to have surgery to put a titanium plate in. I go back in about 5 days to get my final X-ray and hopefully. I will be able to start lifting weights again.

I lost a lot of weight at the age of 60 by jogging for 30 seconds, walking for 30 seconds and alternating until I was exhausted. Gradually increase time of each interval.

Hi Kimberly, I am so glad you had functional blood work taken and were able to get a diagnoses. Undiagnosed thyroid issues can cause a host of other problems including depression and forgetfulness (just to mention a few). So happy you are on the right track to feeling better and I can't wait to see your results ❤❤❤

Kim, you have started exactly how you should - strengthen your body. But now there are only 2 strategies for weight loss - (1) burn more calories than you consume AND (not OR), (2) analyze/change the energy composition of the food you consume by shifting the balance from carbs to healthy fat and ketones. I am 60yr old sz 4. I jump started my return to my pre-menopause weight with keto then shifted to low carb. AND I also use a 16:8 eating window - 2 meals per day - early meals not late. Dropping sugar is NOT enough - you have to attack the challenges from several directions. I had to change my relationship with eating and food - and trust me I was not what anyone would consider "obese" but the excess weight was Stubborn and required the many changes you are now embarking on to remove it. I have been hashimotos hypothyroid for 30 yrs controlled with synthroid. I am also celiac. After so many decades of thyroid and gut impairment, I am damaged but not beaten.

Lots of good information! Doctors really don’t know much about nutrition or vitamins. You’re taking in a lot of protein, but I have heard too much can make you gain weight. That’s what guys who want to build muscle do. Glad you figured out the dairy thing. I did that three years ago and saw instant results. The scale is just a number the way your clothes fit tells the whole story.

I do agree about the toxins, I didn't before but once I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's I started paying close attention to the levels of toxins in ALL the things around us, and do worry about my grandsons growing up with all of it and what it could do to them.

I would love to hear about your diet now. I’m having the same issues. What used to work doesn’t anymore. They always say that diet is the most important component of weight loss but I’m doing that the “right “ way.

Intermittent fasting does not work for me. My body needs small regular meals and snacks. I try to keep it at 1000 calories a day , protein, fiber and good carbs.

I appreciate you sharing your story! I'm curious as to why it was suggested you cut out dairy, esp. considering it is a good protein source. I ask because cheese is also my spirit animal 😂

Functional medicine doctors believe that conventional dairy products are inflammatory, not because dairy is bad but because of what the cows are feed corn\grains. They are also injected with hormones. A normal diet for a cow is grass. My doctor told me if you’re going to eat dairy, eat grass feed milk, cheese, etc.

I will be 64 next month. I was thin my entire life until I hit my 50's. I got very fluffy. I can lose weight but it sure doesn't come off like it used to and all my extra weight is in my belly area. When I do intermittent fasting I can shift the weight. But you know what? I'm really all about feeling well. I keep the carbs to a minimum and I haven't eaten dairy in years (I love dairy, but it doesn't love me) but I basically don't focus on this stuff anymore. I am happy to be alive (breast cancer 15 years ago) and I just can't waste the energy worrying about my weight. If I feel like I'm getting too fluffy I go OMAD for a while and I can keep it from getting out of control. I try to stay as positive as I can. You, Kimberly, always look fabulous!! I understand your desire to stay strong. I've seen people younger than me who have had hip, knee replacements already. I don't want to go there. So I get the desire to stay strong. I wish you all the best on your journey! And welcome to Florida. I hope you love it as much as I do.

I am 71 in June, about 2 years ago I started staying with my Mom after she was diagnosed with cancer. I lived with her for 8 months before she lost her battle:( I decided to start walking and signed up for a macro program, long story short in those 2 years I have lost 50 pounds. I am no longer strictly doing macros but I have changed my diet in a good way, I weigh my self every day and am determined to stay at my current wight. I walk every day for at least an hour and usually an hour and a half. I also do an arm routine 4 to 5 days a week to keep them some what toned. I could look better and be firmer but I am happy where I am. The most important thing is to feel good about yourself and be as healthy as you can be. Good luck to all you beautiful ladies on this journey!!!!!

@nancywalker2256 Жыл бұрын
Boy do I hear you! I am your age, I have always struggled with my weight, was never the teenager who could eat what I wanted and stay thin. In my late thirties I got myself together with the then newish “diet” information that “bad” carbs were the problem and not protein. I am 5’2 and any extra weight is easily seen, 6 -10 pounds added and I’m fat! I’m back on protein and vegetables, which is what has worked in the past, hopefully now. I get a lot of exercise and do intermittent fasting and drink a lot of water. I too have hypothyroidism but meditation did not bring my weight down and make that struggle any easier. It so hard for me to have a life of no desserts, no “bad” carbs and then no dairy either. I have cut down my dairy using plant based milk, etc but the cheese is very hard to let go though I don’t have a lot of it. My husband on the other hand can eat what he wants and that makes it harder.
