Of all the crooners you haven't touched on yet, I'm glad you finally got to Johnny. "Chances Are" is an absolute classic you guys have to react to the next time you're in a crooner mood. You also need to do Tony Bennett's "I Left My Heart in San Francisco". Tony and Johnny might just be the only crooners from that are that's still alive! (Johnny is 86, Tony is 95.) So funny to watch this video, which was filmed in 1991. All those kids probably have kids of their own now!

"Chances Are" is quintessential Johnny Mathis, but one of my favorites is "It's Not For Me to Say. " Johnny Mathis is definitely a crooner. He got his start in 1956 and he's still going. For something more modern, check out his 1978 hit duet with Deniece Williams, "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late."

It's the warmest hug of a Christmas album - in front of the tree & fireplace, while the perfect fluffy snow falls outside, and you're drinking hot cocoa. 💗💗💗 And his NON Christmas stuff is BEAUTIFUL, too. He's an AMAZING CROONER... so, Jay is going loooove him!! 😁 My mum ADORED him, so I grew up with him in our house. But at Christmastime - he was THE feature, because that warm, melodic voice is so fun, frolicking, rich, and CLEAR.

Johnny Mathis has the perfect voice for Christmas music. When I was a kid, his first Christmas album (with a very young Mathis on the cover holding skis) was synonymous with the season for me. Beyond Christmas music, Mathis was one of the great romantic singers of his era - how many babies were conceived with him singing in the background would be impossible to calculate.

Johnny Mathis deserves to be considered one of the best singers ever. He`s one of those singers that makes you close your eyes and drift , no matter what He`s singing. He`s not flashy or over performing and his voice is always liquid velvet. Anything you listen to with his name attached will be pure magic. My most immediate memory of his songs are of When A Child Is Born, Too Much, Too Little, Too Late and Misty and He has many, many Christmas songs, you could do a whole month of just his Christmas music and not hear it all.

The etymology of the song... "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" is a popular Christmas song written by Meredith Willson in 1951. The song was originally titled "It's Beginning to Look Like Christmas". There have been versions done by many different singers, such as Perry Como and Bing Crosby. Crosby's version was extremely popular and is played a lot during the Christmas holidays. God bless you guys.

Thank you for reacting to this song. I have a lot of Christmas songs by Johnny Mathis that are on my Christmas playlist each year. That said, in my humble opinion, Perry Como sang the definitive version of this song. Perry’s version is the first Christmas song I listen to every year to “officially” start the Christmas season. I love Perry’s version. Very much worth a listen. Thank you. Happy Holidays to all! 🎄

Have always loved Johnny Mathis. His enunciation is wonderful. We saw him in concert and his ability to hold notes is amazing. He filled the whole hall with his voice. He is the OG on many old standards.

I have been writing to you for sometime about Johnny Mathis. He is a crooner and nobody has the timbre he did. His voice is so distinguished. In the 1950's and 60's we all slow danced to his songs "Misty" "Chances are" "It's not for me to say" "Wonderful, Wonderful" "What Will My Mary Say" " The Twelfth of Never". Any Christmas song he sings sounds like it's his alone. This song was written in 1951 by Meredith Willson, who is best known for the musical "The Music Man". Bing Crosby and Perry Como had popular recordings of this song as well. Love his unique voice.

His Christmas album is probably the best ever. It isn't Christmas without Johnny Mathis. What a voice, and rumor says also a really nice guy.

Another crooner from the 50s and 60s is Harry Belafonte. For christmas, his song "Mary's Boy Child" is one of my favourites, but he also had a ton of other hits, including "Day-O", Matilda, Jamaica Farewell, and Island in the Sun. He was also very active in the civil rights movement during that time, and he is still alive at the ripe old age of 95!

Every since Jay pointed it out a couple weeks back, I now can’t stop seeing him with Barry Gibb hair. 😁

We have long suggested, Mr. Johnny Mathis. As Amber commented, his voice is perfect. Indeed it is. You haven't scratched the surface of his perfection. He's a crooner.

I saw Johnny Mathis in concert in the summer of ‘69. Fabulous! When I was growing up, my mom always played Johnny at Christmas and I continued to play him after I got married and had kids. The first year my daughter was married, she bought one of Johnny’s Christmas CDs and when her husband seemed surprised, she told him it wouldn’t be Christmas without Johnny Mathis.

I have loved Johnny Mathis since I was a kid. I did get to see him in concert in a regular theater and the notes just soared and swooped around the room and it was magnificent!!! Listen to all of his music, he is great. Merry Christmas to you and your little ones.

You HAVE to listen to a Pentatonix Christmas song! “Mary Did You Know?” is absolutely beautiful. “The Prayer” is a newer cover of theirs and also amazing. But they’ve got SO many Christmas songs, you can’t go wrong with any of them.

Johnny Mathis was very popular in 50's and 60's especially. It's already been mentioned that Misty was a big hit for him. Wonderful Wonderful, was also beautiful. Chances Are is great. When I was a little kid growing up in Cincinnati in the 50's and 60's there was a daily TV show on at noon called The 50/50 Club with Ruth Lyons. She was a talented host, singer and songwriter and started a Christmas fund for hospitalized children. Her adopted daughter came down with cancer and while with her at the hospital she noticed how sad the kids were because they had no toys or activities to keep themselves occupied. She raised millions to purchase toys and other things for the kids. Anyway she would have Johnny on her show whenever he was in the area. They were very close friends and she wrote a song he recorded called Wasn't the Summer Short, didn't it Fly. Beautiful. His voice is so mellow. But there was a big stink when she hugged him or he kissed her hand, something stupid because he was black and she was white. She said she didn't care because he was her dear friend and if the viewers didn't like it they didn't have to watch the show. A lady ahead of her time.

This song was written in the early 50's, and I think Perry Como was the first to make it a hit back then. Countless people have recorded it over the years, but Johnny Mathis' recording wasn't until about the mid 80's.
