Chas Chandler was the bass player in the Animals. He went over to New York and was blown away by a guitarist he heard in a club. He brought him over to the UK and recruited a drummer and bass player and that was how Jimi Hendrix and the Experience came into being. Eric Burdon and Jimi had a very close friendship for years. Interesting how things and people are connected.

"When I Was Young" is a song released in early 1967 by Eric Burdon and The Animals; it was written by five of the band members - Eric Burdon (vocals), Barry Jenkins (drums), John Weider (guitar/violin), Vic Briggs (guitar), and Danny McCulloch (bass) - and was the first release to feature this lineup."

Definitely only listen to the long version of sky pilot if you only listen to the short radio version you are cheating yourself Other long songs that you must review is Time has come again, the end by the doors,going home by the Stones, during the psychedelic era bands would put out 10,12 minute songs Amber the best way to get the psychedelic experience is to turn out all lights in your room only have blacklight posters on smoke a joint use headphones and zone out to the music.I did 55 years ago 😊

Back in the mid 1960s I'd hear my brother playing his albums in his room like every other red blooded American teenager (Boy or Girl) and at 9 yrs. old, really began to appreciate the differences in the different artists and Bands. You begin to form a liking or dislike for certain kinds of music and those that perform it on tv and radio. I became a big fan of Eric Burden, because he was sort of a Bad boy, compared to The Beatles, or even the Stones. Just listen to the lyrics of the songs he sang. They were rarely about loving his girl or Romance. They were edgy and in your face. He's a great artist who loved the Blues and the early rockers of the 50s.
@jrox6091 Жыл бұрын
Jay, I love your facial expressions when an interesting or unique intro begins. 😊 This intro always invokes Black Sabbath's Iron Man from 1970 to me. Same sinking guitar riff. There's a big lobby for Sky Pilot in comments. I like that song, but their masterpiece, IMO, is San Franciscan Nights. I've seen this band live a couple of times and Mr Burden's voice is a great baritone treat...for such a petite man! Be blessed❤

That's an electric sitar and a violin doing that main riff. The Animals were one of the very few bands to undergo an almost complete lineup change and change in musical style and still stay successful. Eric Burdon was the only remaining member from the orignal band, and they went more 'psychedelic' in 1967, but still cranked out several more hits.

"When I Was Young" covers a similar emotional ground to Dylan's "My Back Pages" which contains the line: "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now" and of course The Byrds had a huge hit with that at about the same time that this one came out. "When I Was Young" was a very minor hit (#45) in UK - though it made #15 in the US where the Animals top-flight success continued for a little longer than it did in their homeland.
