2024 golf R is badass. I got a white one(more invisible) put some neuspeed 18 inch wheels with Pilot Sport 4s rubber along with neuspeed lowering springs and 2-piece 370mm rotors with 6 piston calipers and Ferodo pads. Now braking from 150 to 100 in a blip is no sweat with perfect handling. 60-0 braking is insanely good. The seats are extremely comfortable. A real driver's car. I recommend Liquimoly oil from Germany. They have great customer service.

A low torque Unitronic stage 1+ tune really improves improves this car. The slight hesitation you get in 1st gear when launching is gone, which makes the off the line acceleration a heck of a lot faster. Can't recommend the tune enough. Grats on the new whip. Also, a spare tire from the previous gen fits the MK8, and you can keep your woofer, it slips right over the top of the spare.

I've had zero slippage on the APR 93 Octane full torque tune Stage I. There was a guy in the subreddit saying once he went E85 and it had 430 TQ it slipped right away. So it seems the stock break point is between 398TQ and 430TQ

Welcome to the R! I just turned 50, and find it easier to drive in traffic but also to hoon around sometimes. It can keep up,with some fast cars. It’s very confidence inspiring and so damn comfortable and carries my golf clubs. As you said, I can take the wife to a restaurant and not look goofy coming out of a BRZ. I have a “rebuilt title” gen 1 BRZ for cheap for last 2 years, which I consider my weekend corner carver that I can beat on. I just couldn’t commute anymore in the BRZ.

I’m a MK7 GTI owner. The Golf platform is practical, but up to a certain point. I’m 6’4” tall. I put my drivers seat one click away from all the way back. Most of my family and friends are also taller (6ft+). With any of us in the front, there is very little room in the back for passengers. My GTI is basically a 2 person car due to this. But, for the front, there is a lot of leg room and space! More than basically any other car I’ve owned or driven! So it’s very practical for the front in that sense, but the rear does suffer from rear seat space unless those in the front are under 6ft tall. I will say this though, most other rear seat are smaller in width than the Golf’s. The Golf seats are actually pretty long (thigh space). This does take up more space in the rear but it’s a lot more comfortable for rear passenger thighs.

Great comments thanks! That is how me and my short family felt in the BRZ lol. The GR Corolla as much as I love to looks, is too small on the inside. It really wasn't much roomier than my BRZ. It just had a back door which made putting my child seat in easier. The Type R looks huge and it is for leg room but the rear slops so much I even hit my head at 5' 7".

@Neutralreviews8 күн бұрын
Thank you and to you as well! I love mine. I don't think so but I can check and let you know if I think so. Obviously nothing stands out, but I drive it like an old nan for the most part and came from a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder that was super responsive. The only car that sticks out in my experiences as having memorable rev hang was last gen WRX...

For me my daily enthusiast car has to be a manual, AWD, and made for the twisties. I'll pay any price for that combo. I do love the type R but its way to large a car for me. I have a 24 Golf R manual for my daily fun car, and a 24 BRZ tS for my full time fun car
@Neutralreviews8 күн бұрын
Well said. And good combo. I sold my BRZ to get the golf. I really, really miss my BRZ, but if I'm gonna have just one car, because of the torque vectoring rear end, which I tried out in the snow the other day wink wink. The golf is 3/4 the fun and a lot more useable on a daily basis since the BRZ was my daily driver.

Yea. They are the gray pretorias. Mine came with them. But they are an add on if you configure one on their website. At least for 24 models they were. All the Golf Rs in my area North Alabama seem to have them added at the dealer

Having a really hard time deciding between this and the GR Corolla. I’ve been taking manual lessons specifically for one of those cars. I’m close to being confident enough for a test drive. In your opinion what car would be easier or more forgiving for a new manual driver? Thanks
@Neutralreviews7 күн бұрын
@@HeroesJourneyHub Great question and good for you ! I love driving manual. It is therapeutic for me. Both I think would be ok to be your first. The nice thing is they both have so much power it makes them harder to stall. Plus I know the Golf, and I would imagine the GR (but please check) have "hill hold". This feature helps new drivers remove the panic if they find themselves on a hill and are worried about stalling or rolling back. Again, double check, but the Golf and I assume the GR gives a helpful extra burst of torque when letting off the clutch so you don't have to race it. Basically what I am saying is that new manuals are user friendly compared to the cars I learned on. Just be patient and don't panic. I personally like the shifter better in the Toyota but after testing my R in the snow and seeing it can drift in even comfort mode with ESC fully on is a big selling point for me. The GR in some ways feels edgier but it is Toyota safe and likely more forgiving dynamically. Honestly you can't go wrong with either as far as having your cake and eating it too.

@ awesome reply thank you! I do see in the fb groups people complain about the hill start. Sounds like it could be really beneficial for me. Really pumped to go for a test drive soon

Old man question here. Did your insurance rate increase at all with this car?
@Neutralreviews8 күн бұрын
Surprisingly yes. I was coming from a 2 door, RWD 2020 Subaru BRZ which I would have thought would be in a different class. That said I know nothing about car insurance lol. Also, I am in my 40's with a clean record so that surprised me too with the increase. It wasn't crazy more but I honestly was expecting less. Maybe because it is more money than my BRZ...
@Max_Thunder4 күн бұрын
@Neutralreviews That is surprising for sure. I went from 2013 Accord to 2018 GTI my insurance went down quite a bit. That seemed strange. Hoping for the same when I can get into a R. However, that might not be the case.
