You might leave just a little bit of air somewhere. I've had reservoirless rigid tubing loops that popped due to the water expanding because of heat. The density only changes very little but as the water has nowhere to go it will build pressure very very fast and either pop a seal or crack a tube.

You bring up a good point, the failure in engineering of the typical pump res combo. Is it that really that hard. to figure out that an optional intake tube would be a great idea? One that had a gentle bend so it will suck from the side and could be located to suck from the side(bottom) of the tube reservoir? Very interesting build indeed. I disagree with having the reservoir at the top being a bad idea, it can make filling much easier as the fluid can fill the loop as you put it in the reservoir and shake the case. What's surprising is that no one is using vacuum to fill their water cooling loops, it's like no one has ever heard of a vacuum pump. This has been used in the automotive industry for years as the only way to successfully fill the complicated cooling systems of modern cars. You apply a full vacuum on the 'loop' and if it holds for 30 minutes you drop the intake hose in the coolant bottle and open the valve to suck the coolant in to the 'loop' of the car. This would evacuate almost all of the air before you even power the pump for the first time. I tried this but it didn't work because the only fitting I had was on the cap of the reservoir and inconveniently EK decided to make their fittings fat an thus the O-ring would not seal on the reservoir cap of the Revo. I've not installed the pump/res yet to try this idea again.

Glad you finally tried it :) Was trying to tell you for the last couple of years that a 14-15 liter ITX case with 280 rad will make you happy. It is the the smallest thing you can build without compromising on performance. SM580 was the closest thing until recently and it still has some nice perks, but a bit to large. Even tried to build a case myself since i wanted: 1. 3 slots PCIe (dual for GPU and single for another GPU/card via bifurcation cable) 2. 40-45MM 280rad with "normal" 25mm fans 3. Custom loop support Ended up with 14.5 liters box - a bit ugly a bit boxy, but functional. Waiting for the Lian LI Q58 as it seems to have everything i wanted except PSU mount. Will have to modify the case a bit to mount it rotated 90 (fan toward the MB. This way there is plenty space for liquid cooled GPU and a pump res combo.

Optimum does great work…tho locating a pump at the top of a loop is asking for trouble down the line (even w coolant fully topped off). An option is to lay the case with the power plug side facing down, use a right angle power cord at PSU and video cable (do those exist?) and build a stand-off to elevate the case to give cables room. Or a stand-off that is higher for straight connectors. I would never put a pump at the highest elevation unless noise is no issue, because air will show up in the system.

@FragEightyfive3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for talking about PSU and power draw. "only a 600 watt PSU" to other people wondering about PSU's and hardware draw, there are a lot of misconceptions many have about PSU's. I see so many people saying "get a 750watt" or even 850 or 1kw PSU when unless you are running monster OC's and multiple high power draw GPU's, you'll likely never see over about 600watts in most cases. If noise is not your #1 priority with certain 0RPM models, most hardware does not need insane 850 or 1kw PSUs. Even taking power draw spikes into account, most would be fine with a 550-650 watt PSU (closer to 650 if you are running a high power GPU like a 3080, which you could always limit to 100% power or even 90% power if you are OK with slightly reduced performance). FOr example my 980ti + 4.6ghz 3570k would hardly ever see 550 watts at the wall, including running 6 monitors. GPU would be at about 325 watts, CPU at 125 watts max draw. That's 450 on the 12v rail. My Ryzen 3700x+5700xt is 250+150 under unrealistic loads. Gaming is more like 250+50, with a 5120x1440 monitor and 2x1920x1080 I have seen spikes to 500 watts at the wall including the monitors. So even on the more power hungry builds of 2020/2021, you'll see 400 watts GPU and 200 watts CPU. If you have 600 watts on the 12v you should be fine.

Don't fill your reservoir completely! This will create unnecessary pressure in your loop as the water gets hotter and may cause leaks because the fittings aren't designed to handle this pressure. Overall having some pressure in the system is good and helps fight the bubbles but you need to make sure the system can handle that.

Beautiful. Id have gone soft but can't deny the aesthetic. I use a 240/45 from alphacool to cool a 3700x and 1080 with ZERO issue. 45 on CPU 55 on GPU, thats in gaming real world numbers. Its interesting that both Bitwit and Jay have done videos proving u dont need more than one rad, yet they both continue to use multiple rads on standard (non sli, non threadripper) builds.
