Kyle Steyn ended up being such an inspired choice as captain. He has such a 'fine, ill do it myself' mentality when things are on the back foot, you see him just get the ball whenever we can and charge it, regardless of whose in front of him, purely to show himself leading by example. Also Z Fagerson might be the most important player in a glasgow (maybe Scotland) jersey now, a tighthead who can consistently do 80 minute shifts week after week and not lose any of his energy, such a valuable asset, particularly when the stock is so low in Scotland

Zander is immense--a bit terrifying for his longevity just how much he has to play for club and country over every season.

Thanks so much from a 25 year Glasgow season ticket holder who's never been so happy as he was on 22 June (ok, maybe birth of daugter but it's close...). Lots of stuff I noticed at the time (extra kicking in the playoffs, the importance of Stafford McDowall) and lots of the stuff I'd never spot without Squidge-assistance (even spread of player usage, use of wraparounds to call plays). Quite right to say that availability and consistency of our non-Scots qualified guys (McKay, Jordan, Venter) was critical, though Matthews and McKay would probably have played less if Turner and Ollie Smith had been injured less of the time. Other 2 things I'd point to are much-improved goal-line defence in 23/24, and the fact that the same 15 started all 3 play-off games, doubt any other team has been able to do that. Being pedantic, Pieretto, not Piettro, but you are forgiven! Especially given nice burn on Edinburgh:)

As a life long warriors fan I managed to get to Pretoria for the final I’m Scottish but I was in Pretoria for work (don’t know why my company wanted me their) Anyway I got to the final that was the happiest day of my life.
@randomlyfactual19434 ай бұрын
So this is me: I was born in Cape Town and obviously grew up supporting the WP in the Currie Cup and the Stormers when they formed in the late 90's. Then, we moved to the North where EVERYONE was a Blue Bulls supporter...and I really got it in a bad way. Stormers took a nosedive and the Bulls fans were sure to tell me how awful my team was. So I hated the Bulls - they were my personal England! This final marks the very first time I ever cheered FOR the Bulls to win. Maybe it is because of the new competition, maybe it is because of the attrition of twitter against the SA teams, or maybe I am a bit cooler with the rivalry now because the Stormers are a formidable force themselves - but I felt that this was a new leaf turned over. Bulls should have and could have won this game. Beat Leinster away? Home field advantage? At altitude? And a Scottish side was going to come here and beat them? Ha! Well. The Warriors olayed out of their skins. Squidge didn't touch on it, but the way they disrupted the Bulls' rhythm, how you always felt so uncomfortable even when they had possession, that gave rise to this eerie feeling that this was not the Bulls' day. Glasgow were brilliant in front of the hostile crowd, they seemed not to affected by the altitude and I thought they adapted very well to how the ref officiated. All in all, a steller performance by a magnificent team! Shutting down the Bulls at Fortress Loftus is no mean feat and I hope those men remember the sweet taste of victory at one of rugby's true Cathedrals for the rest of their lives.

Looking forward to the new season, at least 5 teams you'd think have a chance. Also Glasgow actually sending a full strength team to South Africa before the play offs seems like a smart call for getting them used to altitude. Good luck next season!
@randomlyfactual19434 ай бұрын
@@Caledon1893 Oh yeah, I forgot about that, very good point. The altitude is a really weird thing to get used to here. If you jog, for example, it is a completely different experience down in Cape Town - very nice, very pleasant, feel like you can go have a lunch afterwards - and Pretoria - lungs burning, you feel like you're about to expire, feels like the wrath of God has been unleashed upon you. If even the great Richie McCaw says that playing at Ellis Park is like wading through porridge after sixty minutes, then you know how tough that is. So yeah, getting used to oxygen starvation is the only way to go and beat an SA franchise/ Bok team in anyone of the Highveld stadiums. So who wins this season? The Stormers, of course 😁
@Caledon18934 ай бұрын
@@randomlyfactual1943 McCaw was rarely wrong in matters of rugby :) It will be a great season! Boks in trouble in Argentina right now though. Great watch.

Lovely tribute of a lovely campaign. I thought last season was a chance to make progress and be ready for this season when Sutherland and Hastings were arriving and to continue to develop our depth. Franco had other ideas…. I definitely think we are stronger this season, but also will be heavily targeted and our attack analysed once again. We need Hastings to adapt quickly to the system and add his own running threat for us and Sutherland to further enhance our scrumming depth, plus his ball carrying in the loose. Will be interested to see who the starting second rows are come the big games, is Max Williamson ready for the big games? Also worth remembering we have Sione Vailanu back and fit, he was missed for the second half of the campaign with his carrying! Anyway, hope we hit the ground running tomorrow, Ulster a tough place to go with a very vocal and passionate crowd behind them!

As a Glasgow fan I'd long felt like we were a team that had to use all their energy to make the play-offs, and couldn't afford to hold anything back for the decisive matches at the end - like choking against Toulon in Dublin last year. Franco proved that false. Only disappointment is that, having been to every final that Glasgow (and Edinburgh) have played, there was no chance of getting to South Africa to be there in person.

Watching elements of the breakdown where you mention Forwards getting involved in the back line, Tuipulotu, Dobie and Horne, am I mad in drawing parallels to the positionless system but better? Players being able to take on different roles as and when it is required, the likes of Matthews looping all the way around to get involved in the attack etc. Instead of having the entire team do this, it's a select few doing things they're capable of rather than everyone trying to do everything, which was Eddie's ultimate goal. It could explain why some of the more versatile players were breaking 1000 minutes, alongside the spine and generally crucial players.
